The Pixel 8a doesn't make sense anymore... Yes, I get it. This is a total upgrade from the Pixel 7a with a much nicer display at 120Hz refresh rate, you have a much better looking design, you get the latest processor, but for $500, you might want to look at the Pixel 8 instead of this. And I'll tell you why in this video!

What a lot of these TH-camrs don't tell you is that the price difference isn't really $50 but more like $200. Yes, the pixel 8 goes on sale & reaches close to pixel 8a retail price. BUT! But the pixel 8a never is sold at retail price. In many countries you get a discount if you preorder & the phone goes on sale later on, just like the pixel 8. I got mine for $386 (including tax). For that money it's the best value for money phone you can get that has an amazing camera & a good display. So yeah I'd say don't listen to TH-camrs because majority of them make the same review & don't really be saying much. In places like Europe the pixel 8 is €200+ more expensive than 8a. Again it depends what region of the world you're in & what deals are available in your region for the pixel 8a. Plus that Bay Blue 💙🔵 Pixel 8a is 😍
As a father of a toddler, I cannot stress enough how much I need a plastic back instead of glass.
Traded my Pixel 4 for the 8a and got the 8a for 330 EUR. Can't complain for that price :D

The $50 price difference isn’t really a constant thats just a sale that either phone could have in a couple of months. the true difference is $200 and thats what the review needs to cover.

But the truth of the matter is… with the price graph I just showed you in the video, look at how often the Pixel 8 went on sale… the “$200” difference isn’t a real thing. Consumers tend to wait for sales anyways. So as someone who sees those trends in prices, I had to talk about it.

It can and it will! I’m saying now, as it is. If they need to upgrade find a Pixel 8 that’s on sale because they are almost always on sale. Not just on Amazon.
Agree with the original poster. Can't compare the sale price of the 8 to the normal price of the 8a. Google almost always will put both on sale at the same time.
Based on past sales, thinking 8 on sale at $499 and 8a at $349 so a $150 price difference. At $349, 8a is a great value.
Skipping this phone for a fact that the pixel 9 is looking to be a substantial update. My pixel 6 is pretty beat up and a 3 generation jump is what I think is a good upgrade.

I just upgraded now to 8 and will also upgrade to 9 but I'll be getting it on Black Friday so its still like 6 months away.

I really hope that Google will keep the A series and has it's performance to that of the 8 or Hopefully, the 8 Pro. However, i am looking to get the 8a! Can not wait to join Team Pixel!
I just got my pixel 8a and the performance is severely underwhelming, the thing heats up and drops down to budget tier phone performance from 2019 in under 5 minutes doing any tasks that stress the CPU and GPU. Just watching a TH-cam video it heats up loool
I’m just waiting for them to get the battery right and I’m switching over, already got a iPad so I don’t need a iPhone but the battery on any pixel phone still don’t compare to a iPhone imo

Right now, today, where i live Pixel 8 costs 599€ vs 549€ for Pixel 8a.
When special offers will stop, Pixel 8 will go back to 799€
For sure! Gotta take advantage of those special prices. That's why I mention the Pixel 8 and show the graph of the 8's price always fluctuating and can see the same happen for Pixel 8a.

I bought Nothing 2a over this due to price. My Pixel 4a died and was considering the 8a. Well, l just felt the price is confusing and higher since we also have the 8 and the 8 Pro.
What happened with your pixel 4a?
I consider it a flagship phone and plastic backs don't bother me at all. I'd rather have a plastic back. And actually the glass is more scratch resistant than the victus. It's very very thick. I don't use a screen protector.
I am a Pixel fan and I like their setup and the potential those phones have. They truly do put the “smart” in smartphone. That said, I think unless you just cannot live without currently owning a Pixel, you should wait till the Pixel 10 lineup at the earliest. The Tensor chip will be the same Exynos based architecture in the Pixel 9 lineup. That means no matter how many improvements you’ll get, it’ll still suffer from overheating, bad battery life, and poor connectivity with its substandard modems. Exynos is notorious for these issues and until the Tensor is based on TSMC architecture in the Pixel 10 series, these problems won’t change much. Honestly, if Google can’t fix the software issues and updates that continue creating more problems than they fix, the Pixel lineup is in danger of becoming the next LG. LG kept raising prices and kept having the same reoccurring issues and didn’t listen to their fan base. Google is going the same route and if they aren’t aware enough to make a drastic change, another great smartphone manufacturer will go out of business.
In my opinion where this phone is an excellent value is the 7 years of support and getting the same Actua display and Tensor G3 chip that's in the flagship Pixels. You can't really compare the 8a to flagship devices as if you want that market you likely aren't looking at this. My issue is the updates potentially bricking the device and less than stellar battery life and standby time.

Why is everyone referencing the best sale price of the pixel 8 without even mentioning the fact that at the initial launch you get $100 back on the pixel 8a? In future sales it's probably going to be $550 vs $400 Rather than $550 vs $500

We do! As a consumer, I would want Apple to create a phone that's affordable of course! And I've criticized Apple in the past for the 14 Pro not being ALL that different and how they need to really update the SE line to give people a better intro price to an iPhone versus buying used/refurb. I also made a statement how iPhone 15 is the better iPhone to buy versus 14 Pro/13 Pro. Just cause it has Pro in its name doesn't mean it's ultimately better.

That slow charging gets on my nerves! lol. The 7 and 8 have better charging capabilities. If you can get for under $400, I can certainly see it's worth!
Mate, comparing a sale price to a standard price is just wrong considering both devices go on sale.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "if" google wanted it to fly off the shelves with people having access to AI. Google already has a large AI foot in the door via Samsung. Pixel hardware is a bonus.

I mean google really did a great job on this phone and I mean alot as a pixel fan it has a majic ai and its really usefull and I loved it alot since I was a samsung fan but now its pixel because its budjet for more features...

Hmmm haven’t noticed that on mine when charging.
Yea they overheat a lot. Doing any task that stresses CPU and or GPU it will drop down substantially and the left side of the phone gets too hot to hold the phone. Really disappointed, even watching TH-cam videos it heats up.

@@yaushaas I will be returning anyway since my country laws allow 30 days for returns so luckily won't be losing any money. Another thing is that compared to my old Poco F3 it has a severe lack of customisation in the settings, no audio customisation, display customisation is just 2 modes being natural (washed out) and adaptive (slightly less washed out) compared to my Poco F3 that let me change pretty much anything. Really disappointing for a newer phone to have less features than an old budget phone 😂
Google hasn't really been one to try and understand the market. They pretty much just do whatever they want, whenever they want. Hence, consumers into Google's ecosystem shouldn't think about the future, or mind becoming tomorrow's past.
That's facts. Although, as someone who's a big fan of the Pixel's hardware, especially cameras over the last few years, I really want them to succeed, but their marketing is terrible.
could a third party app get 60fps on the ultra wide or is it a hardware limitation?
I'm not sure since I don't use third party apps and I think the best cam app for Pixel is what it currently uses. Just weird to me they'd block it somehow.
