  • Sue and I saw this new RYOBI 18V Inverter in the Home Depot Automotive aisle. I hadn't heard any announcements from Ryobi about it. I bought one to test out. It has three different power inputs: 12V car battery, 18V One+ battery, or 12V cigarette lighter plug. Depending on the power source, it can produce 800, 300, or 120Watts of modified sinewave AC. It has two 120VAC outlets, two USB-A 2.4A plugs, one USB-C 20W PD plug, and a 12V 10A cigarette socket.
    I'm so glad RYOBI finally has a 18V product that has a 12V socket output! I can finally run my CPAP, freezer, and heated blanket! Because it supports 12V battery input, you can hook it up with solar panels, MPPT solar charge controllers, and Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries.
    On the down side, it's a modified Sinewave Inverter, I could only get it to output 750W, and the Watt gage was flaky when measuring DC loads.
    For improvements, I would like to see a 1000W inverter so I could run my trailers 700W microwave and 5000BTU air conditioner. I would like to see a separate on/off switches for the AC/DC. Built-in solar charging for the 18V One+ battery would be nice.
    Things I used:
    * 9ah Battery ( amzn.to/32ypiQ0 )
    * USB Tester ( amzn.to/3JtfVSA)
    * Ryobi 18V 800W Inverter RYi8030AVNM ( www.homedepot.... )
    * 12V Electric Blanket ( amzn.to/32txAJe )
    * 12V ICECO Freezer ( amzn.to/3Jn3ckh )
    * Rich Solar Panels (amzn.to/3JvwUUj )
    * Victron MPPT Solar Controller ( amzn.to/3mJ6Xqh )
    * Battleborn 100A 12V battery ( amzn.to/3HnZiWA )

    Another excellent video, per your normal standards. My view of this product is exactly the same as yours. It's the best they have offered, so far, but they missed the mark going with what is clearly a 750 watt MSW inverter. It does come in at a pretty nice price point and the versatility is impressive. I would NOT trust my more sensitive and expensive electronics to this inverter, though! I'm also willing to bet that it would be very noisy if used to power an amplifier or a ham radio. I'll still probably wind up buying one. :)

    Ryobi needs to update this model. Bluetti, ecoflow, jackery are the way to go for these types of generators. And they can be cheaper. I bought the bluetti eb3a for 209 on Amazon where this ryobi model is about 150 plus you need at least 4ah batteries. I have the ryobi 150 watt inverter and only like it because of its size and I already have a bunch of ryobi batteries.

    you answered the question i've been asking since i first saw reviews of this product. i've got a 100w solar panel arriving soon and i was wondering if i could use it with this product. i'll probably need an adapter cord i would guess. it would be nice if the device was also a charger, but hopefully i can plug a 18v battery charger to the inverter A/C outlet and use the solar input and charge the 18v battery.

    This would be a great product if it would run on the 18-volt at 300 w and on the other side the 40 volt for like 500 watts and then be able to put out at least 1,000 w but the fact that it's modified sine wave means that the inverter is pretty much worthless it will run lights and fans and heaters but the light bulb will burn out 25% faster and fans will also burn out faster and even that heater can be damaged modified sine wave I wouldn't take one if they gave it away for free this is a worthless product they're 1800 w sine wave inverter is amazing if they made a sine wave model like that and it was exactly the same with the 300 w and 800 w I would definitely want at least one or two thank you for your video you did a great job showing this product and I enjoyed the video and appreciate it

    Running a compressor fridge and electronics on a msw inverter is asking to shorten the life of those products significantly. Pure sine inverters should be used on sensitive electronics and anything with a motor or compressor.

    I have one. The instructions state that it is 800 watt, however each side of the outlet is limited to 650 watts.it does run the fridge in my RV which is the main reason I purchased it. It is a propane and 110 volt at 460 watts. I don't like to have the propane on while travelling. I am going to play around with solar.

    • @SerendipitySue

      Interesting. I did my test with the 700W heater in one outlet, and the light board in the other. The most I could get was 750W. I went back to instruction sheet and it says “650W(30 min)/600W max continuous”. Yet the product is called “800W Auto Power Inverter”. Something is out of sync 😳

    I have the same inverter and I can't get 800W from the AC outlets. I complained to RYOBI and this is the replay I got:
    "RYi8030AVNM is rated for up to 800W of continuous output (650W AC + 150W DC combined). Please note that this unit outputs 650 watts max through the AC outlets."
    No where on their website this was written... misleading.

    @grindychum 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I was hoping you would make a video on this! I want to like this because it has a 12v port (it should have an on/off switch) but the modified sine is such a buzz kill. I would like to have seen a capacity test with a 18v battery, because I never get close to the batterys stated "WH" with the 18v or the 40v inverter. Hoping they improved the inverter efficiency on this model, but since the DC and AC are always on, it most likely performs the same.
    When you had the fridge plugged in DC and the meter was jumping around, could that because the port could be unregulated?
