My Pops taught/told me about taking a break and washing your hands/face and having a quick conversation with the man in the mirror 🪞 and how that can have positive effects when your playing and the first time I did it was like opening a another side to the mental side of the game I was so laying a local who played good some one-pocket 3 ahead for $1200 this was back in the early 90’s and I was 2 ahead and had 2 balls he had 5 and he shoots a long rail bank and puts it just outside of his pocket so I stopped took a break and went in and spoke to the man in the mirror lol “myself” washed my hands/face came out and got down loaded the cue ball up with low left spin and crossed face banked the ball and it floated right in and cue ball came two rails to open up the cluster of balls and I ran out… I’ve always believed that the mental side of the game maybe 🤔 a higher percentage then the physical 😉
You can't have a strong mental game without developing the physical technique first - the mental game is about 10% but it's just as challenging as the physical 90% - I teach players to develop them both but in a certain order. Shoot Straight 🎯
Love you friend. You're such a great storyteller and your wisdom is far beyond your years. Thank you. I'm listening to all your videos as I travel up and down 75.
You hit on two points that really touch base with me. Things I learned about getting weight or giving weight early on. Such as when a top player spots another one the last two. That's not a spot that's a psychological ploy. It's a mind game nothing more. Cuz players at a certain caliber once they get down to the last two they are out anyway. Also I understand the mindset when you are down you simply fire away cuz you really have nothing left to lose. But that goes along with my general philosophy of the game to begin with. I have always believed in playing to win rather than playing not to lose. It has been my experience that a good offensive player will beat a good defensive player the vast majority of the time because he's playing to win. There's a place for defense but I'm not a defensive player
Met CJ tonight in my local pool room. Was pretty nervous to approach him but decided to do it. He couldn't have been nicer. I'm far from a pro, but we played a set of 10 ball. Not once did he make me feel like I wasn't worth his time. He was cracking jokes and being friendly the whole time. If you ever see this man in your pool hall don't be afraid to buy him a drink and play a few games. He's as classy as they come.
This was a cool one! I was a kid hanging out at the old Hawks pool hall in the 80's and watched a lot of fantastic players come through . I saw a lot of amazing pool . Watched Earl Strickland break and run 13 racks playing frank seal. Those were the days
As usual, great stuff. Back in the 70's I played a guy named Scott. He was a good player and he gave me the 7. I broke and ran the first three racks and he wouldn't play any longer with the spot. He beat me in the end because he was the better player. I also knew a one eyed player named George Miller. He could shoot lights out.
Been to Morristown a1000 times i lived in fall branch and my brothe met his wife there just googled you from the jor rogan with Jeremy jones bc i heard Morristown tn and frank seal lol
Yes I beat Frank out of $16,000 the first time we met, then he gave me a key to his poolroom and I stayed there in Morristown for several months....there was a lot of action and road players during that time period!
Tell some stories about David Matlock,he is a friend and you just don't see much online but everyone knows him and how good he actually is and I haven't seen him him since 2010 and he trained my son and he won a Jr world title.
Yes, I was totally in the billiard club and nightclub/restaurant business in Dallas from 99-2007 - then played in the US Open against Earl which is on You Tube, I won 11/4 I think

That's right we are on the same page! I like the way you put that about there's a time for defense but you don't want to be a defensive player.
@@cjwiley1541 look forward to meeting you someday c.j. I'm headed 2 Omaha within the next two weeks to see John.
Thanks for another GREAT vid!!!!
Thanks for watching!

When will you come back to the cue club Lexington Kentucky? I play there and I heard you come in from time to time. I’m such a big fan
I don't plan far ahead so anytime I'm passing through I'll stop to see my friend Danny Beile - maybe in March I'll make that trip
you can learn a lot from C.J.
He's a pool genius.
Glad to have the opportunity, Tom, thanks!

Not that far from Jackson ms.
Just a hop, skip and 12 hours away 😳 It's on my way back to Texas though.
@@cjwiley1541 For sure. If you come around this way , let me know.
Hey CJ, what do you think about the cheating controversy going on in the poker world? Are you familiar? Interested to hear your take.
I don't know anything about that - my good friend Jack Ethel runs the WSOP , he actually worked for me when he was 17 but don't follow poker right now
When you said you hadn't played in seven years what did u mean? Did you quit pool once and come back or something?
