"anti-drop" is a term that can be used to describe choruses that sound empty, it was sorta coined by charlie puth and i think it encapsulates how these types of choruses feel - เพลง

I remember BLACKPINK and the producers were worried that WHISTLE was not gonna be a hit because of how "empty" it felt. But the fact that it managed to predate a trend in music while also being one of BP's most successful hits just tells you how much talent the team has in songwriting. In fact, some would argue that they probably started the Anti-drop trend... some....

The best anti drop is Chungha Stay Tonight. This one holds the most expectation of a big drop and then just goes from outside voice to inside voice so fast. Like right as the drop hits Chungha walks through a kindergarten class during nap time.

Because it subverts expectations, I guess? Or maybe it's because it's (relatively) new and fresh. I bet people will become just as sick of them once _everyone_ starts to use them
I guess because it just tries to match the vibe of the song and doesn't try hard to impress you with all manners of noise, and since it also relies on the vocals of the artists, it fills the song with more of the person you're listening to and again, like the person before pointed out, it contains surprises.
It takes you by surprise. And the human brain loves surprises when it comes to music, art and drama. Takes us out of the comfort zone, but in a good way.

My opinion:
Some songs really can get boring because of the anti drop, I had a really hard time getting into 'stay tonight' when it was first released. But I think kpop is really good at working with anti drops, they don't make it sound so boring and it is actually quite energetic (and it doesnt sound so repetitive) even thought it's not drop like it is usually, or a person wants. (For me pop songs don't really know how to make the song not boring when using anti drop (except Charlie Puth who's songs are probably one of the only ones that actually stills sounds not boring or dry, repetitive with anti drop)

Which is: I am very into antidrops executed well. At first when I heard the word "antridrop" I thought it would have been something more unpleasant, and less energetic, yet I quickly learned that it wasn't about the energy but more of a technical point (as you explained in the video: bass, drums and vocals), because to me most of the antidrops you showed did not match at all my first impression of "being less powerful", but instead flowed extremely well!

Stay Tonight is a masterpiece that deserves more attention. It’s one of the best, highly conceptual and refreshing songs in Kpop I’ve heard in a long time. It’s Chung Ha’s best work no doubt.

In the example used for Loona, I wouldn’t have even noticed that it was an anti-drop until it was pointed out. The use of that few second delay 1:32 tricks you into believing there was a full on drop when there wasn’t, kinda clever.
