"anti-drop" is a term that can be used to describe choruses that sound empty, charlie puth said it once and i kinda ran with it lol idk if its a commonly used term but CHARLIE PUTH DID NOT INVENT THIS TECHNIQUE, it has been used LONG before he did it, he's just the one who sorta coined the phrase - เพลง

The spider antidrop threw me off literally, because the prechorus is beautiful and then comes the antidrop with breathy vocals and the choreography 😭😭😭 I REALLY REALLY like spider, a masterpiece.
Hoshi's Spider has Taemin's Move vibes and I seriously CANNOT get enough of it. The choreo and the freakin performance 🔥 may be biased but it def deserves at the very least a nomination for best performance bec he def delivered ✨

There's also the reverse antidrop fake-out, where the antidrop follows the chorus and becomes a type of 2nd chorus. Sounds very satisfying because unlike the traditional antidrop, the tension is actually released first. Example: Cherry Bullet's "Love So Sweet". The chorus is very colourful and then as the 2nd chorus there's the shallow sounding cute antidrop.

spider's amazing discography is one thing (woozi always pull it off ok) but the choreography is ANOTHER thing. I've seen bunch of musician and dancers reacting to it, believe me but understanding what's happening in spider (from their perspective) seems flawless and just amazing- im neither but i still find the song breathtaking.. especially breathtaking bc horangi is my ult bias 😩😩

i got love by Taeyeon has to be one of the best antidrop songs of all time, and the fact it wasn’t that recognized is a sin. SM producers are always ahead of their time.
At the very least, this channel did recognize (and introduce me) to I Got Love by Taeyeon. It's really unique!
Every one let's give a lots of respect and love to shinee and f(x) for their tremendous contribution to kpop industry. Without these two we wouldn't be able to enjoy so many styles in kpop songs

One of my favorite anti drops in kpop (atleast i think it is) is “And there was no one left” by dreamcatcher. It really just teleports me into an entirely different dimension every time i listen to it
one really interesting “anti-drop,” i find, is without you by golden child! the pre-chorus actually doesn’t really build up a lot of tension, yet the drop still feels totally fresh and unexpected because of its minimalist, deep house elements that contrast with the rest of the song.

I have such mixed feelings about anti-drops, if executed badly it instantly ruins the song for me. But if executed well, it can create amazing songs. Often they end up as acquired tastes for me, like I really did not like Why Not at first, but now I love it; so it really is a risk I think. Despite that, some of my favourite songs have had anti-drops, so it is a risk worth taking.
Also on another note, your videos are amazing, really well edited and they add your own unique personality/take to the video genre which really sells it. Feels less fabricated, while being factual and funny at the same time, so keep it up. :)

STYLISH IS SO UNDERRATED, SUCH A BOP
Despite knowing that SM as a conglomerate and money hungry entertainment company they sure "pioneer" a lot sounds for the whole kpop industry. While their 1st or 2nd releases might not be popular with their masses it paves the way for other companies/musicians/songwriters/composers to explore and I'm so thankful for that. Kpop is one of my favorite sounds (even if you discount the "idol culture).
One thing I like about SM is that they dont just chase after trends and make cash-grabbing songs. They genuinely care about making art (exploring new and obscure ideas, taking inspirations, do crazy things) and make money at the same time.
SM is nowhere perfect but their contributions to kpop should never be overlooked. Without them, kpop would not be where it is today

SM is the most experimental company when it comes to musicality. GG, F(x) and Red Velvet songs were so ahead of the game.
SM screams "we got the money, let's just fucking try everything. You got your ass covered dw" energy.
They aren't shy to getting outside artists/producers, some studios don't explore as much - take a look at SM song credits; lots of foreign songwriter and producer involvement - connecting with other cultures and people, and general exposure to different environments and people means music gets more creative

Soso by Winner is a masterpiece. If you read the lyrics, it talks about how the person is not happy nor sad but okay (so so). So when the song builds up and the anti drop comes in, it really embodies what the song is all about.

you know what i like about being born in the time that we are? songs dont have to be following the same rules no more. before it was pre-chorus-chorus-ending etc. but now we can have so many. we can have a chorus right at the beginning or have a drop fake out. it is fascinating how you can dance to songs from the 20s but also dance to modern songs and enjoy them all

Honestly, Deja Vu is iconic yet underrated at the same time and it’s weird. But I love that song and it prob wins between that and energetic (maybe I’m biased😂) but I just think the chorus feels so incredibly empty… but in the best possible way. The melody REALLY gets to shine and I love that.

I'll be honest I didn't entirely finish the video so when I got to the end and you gave a shout-out to Stylish, I wanted to cry. One of the best LOONA B-sides without strangely empty but loving??? the chorus feels.
I have synesthesia so I can feel and see music and my favorites are the fakeout anti-drops. The build makes me feel like I'm rising into the sky, the anti-drop part feels like I'm just floating there, and then the release of the chorus is like an explosion. It's hard to put into words but it's an incredible sensation and your videos just gave me a ton of new songs I can add to my list. Thank you!

Woahh, how do you see music? When you’re listening to music, how do different types of music look like?
@@sushih3302 In my head the songs will look like geometric shapes moving around. It tends to be the same shapes regardless of genre. It's more that the shapes become more 3D the more intense it is. Like usually if there is a moment where the music really builds I will see a square and it starts to develop into a cube, then if the build up keeps going I'll eventually feel like I'm actually holding the cube and manipulating it with my hands even though I'm sitting perfectly still. Not every song does this though, but for kpop almost all of Suga's solo songs do because he loves to ramp up the intensity about halfway through.
