This is a great video, so informative. Exactly what I've been looking for. Looking to get an 1i pedal but I wasn't sure what specifications I need to look for. Thank you for making the video.

I like the quick response! Someone suggested in the Pete Thorn video to do a comparison of the same riff (same take) on different length IRs and flip the phase, to hear what's the actual difference in a guitar tone. Would be great to see that!

That's a good idea! I'll try and remember to do this comparison.

Great info. Thanks. Just started looking into ir pedals and this really helped clear some things up.

    Good information, thank you
I have another question: I use Ozone and MatchEQ to create IRs like you described years ago but my IRs are really quiet. I have to turn down the test volume so it doesn't clip during matchEQ.
I can't just import the IR and render it louder in Reaper. That will completely fuck up the IR.
How can I get those IRs louder?
    Thanks!

great info. I am IRing Waves NLS channels for the non linearity and phase differences on dual mono presets. I think I get a more accurate resault with 500msec IR 32bit float.

Thanks! How can I run this Ultrares IRs on my computer to play along a Captor 16 loadbox? Is there a Plug-in for that?

Interesting! I always used the longer IR's with Ownhammer. I thought this was the case but never really tested it. Thanks!
Also I recieved a free update to the MESA Cab pack. But it didn't specify what the update was? Could you tell me? :)

    Thanks for the great demonstration!
And what about the mixing IRs with different length? What lenght should be set for the such mixed IR?

I suppose there are no rules for that. Personally I would just cut the IR as short as the shortest file. Otherwise you may get weird results.

I have a Helix, which I believe truncates the IR’s down to 40ms...there is an option to pick 20 ms also....I can hear a huge difference between 20 and 40ms....mainly in the low end...so now I want an AxeFX III so I can have longer IR’s.....Do you think there is as noticeable a difference between 40 ms and 100ms,as there is between 20 and 40ms??

I'd say 99% of the sound is captured with 200ms but that first 20ms will be close to 90%. 40ms is somewhere inbetween. For the people that want the best results you may prefer longer IR's.

Great video, albeit a bit nerdy :) I thought the Pete Thorn video was ridiculous. He started out showing a long IR, and then compared it to 20 ms. In my opinion, the long IR was markedly better than the 20 ms IR. Then he continued to show that even shorter IRs was worse - no big surprise there.

I stumbled across this video and quite honestly this can be answered with just some simple math... 1024 samples at 48Khz is 21ms... 21ms can capture even really low frequency (50hz) which for the guitar you will cut out anyway... why would you want effects from the room at the expense of extra computational resources? I truncate all of mine at 20ms and they are much more responsive and you don't need reflective shit anyway...

So does this mean that youtubers shouldn't be trusted when they are trying to sell something?
