- Utrecht is the capital and most populous city in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the eastern corner of the Randstad conurbation, and is the fourth largest city of the Netherlands with a population of 328,577 in 2014.
Utrecht's ancient city centre features many buildings and structures from the Early Middle Ages.

O, how I loved walking here when I still lived in Utrecht. I moved to Canada in 1968, I still miss Utrecht I should have stayed there. Still homesick for you Utrecht.😥❤️👌

When you have lived in Utrecht as a student, the video has a seconds layer. You recognise all the cafés and clubs you used to go to. The good thing about the centre of Utrecht is that it has a pleasant scale. On a bike you are never more than 10 minutes away from where you want to go to.
You should really do this again now, 6 years later. A lot has changed and the city looks even beter now. Especially the central station, the Hoog Catherijnen Mall, the biggest bicycle parking garage in the world (underneath the stationsquare, which has also been upgraded and is truely a place to chill and relax now) and a whole new chanal that has returned after being gone for nearly fifty years and used to be there since the early days of the city, now it is back where it used to be and goes around the old city and underneath the brand new mall. Also a lot of buildings have undergone renovations or restaurations and the big Dom tower is undergoing maintenace as we speak. You should also visit the Wilhelmina park, its really nice (mostly so when the sun shines in summer or late spring). Anyways I love how my city continues to change but also keeps the nice old buildings from the middle ages etc.
Dat was fantastisch, toevallig vorig jaar naar 22 jaar weer in Nederland en special Utrecht geweest. Ik moet wel zeggen dat ik het ontzettend mis omdat ik een Utrechtse ben.

@@mvermeulen26 Yeah it is. more water, trees, important/impressive/beautiful buildings. Also the Architecture is a little nicer and there are more important buildings that have fabulous architecture. Also a better art scene.

I biked this route daily! And ended up on Ledig Erf, the terace, at the end of a working day. I miss my Utrecht!

One thing that stuck me is how quiet the city is. Even when you got to a area with a lot of vehicle traffic, it was quieter then American cities.
Did you notice the police sirenes? That is because they try to NOT use them. That makes a difference.
More quiet*----An* area---struck* me----vehicle traffic?!---than*
Looks like someone has nothing better to do....
It's so quiet there because all the through traffic doesn't go through the city centre, but rather on freeways around
Also because there are way less cars, about 40% of trips are by bike there
And because the cars only drive 20-30mph

In late fall the river will be smokey in the morning and evening giving the impression you are going through a portal to some magical place. In early summer there are so many chicks of water fowl around you almost don't dare to paddle from fear of hitting one. Did I mention the world class pancakes being made there already?
For history buffs there's forts. Lots and lots of forts. Roman ones, medieval ones and defensive works from WW2.
And if you're really rich and just like to enjoy the sun, nibble on strawberries and sip champagne there's the Vecht on the other side of Utrecht. Which also isn't a bad way to spend your day.

I'm going to The Netherlands for the 3rd time later this year. I'll be going to The Hague, Maastricht, Utrecht and Amersfoort . I haven't watched all of the video because I dont want to spoil the surprise so to speak. but it looks good from the bits I've seen.

Good quality and a stable image. Earlier in my life I've practised kind of smooth walking to be able to make such films, but never actually started doing them...
Btw. The film was published on 3 April, but on what date it was recorded? I will spend a day in Utrecht at the end of March and hope to see green leaves on the trees at least in such a quantity as in this video! :)

I think you must have used a steady cam - it is perfectly steady and fluid - let us know - Canon itself stabilizer is non so perfect . I hold one Canon too.or you have stabilized it in post production but great woark anyway man -

The walk finishes at Monicabrug, corner Nieuwekade and Sint jacobsstraat probably because the walkers memorycard was full.
The function to fix camera shake always looks worse than without. It changes natural view as the camera moves forward. Things look synthetic and distorted. This is great idea for a video. To see an environment basically from your perspective and for such a length of time. It is quite palpable as the viewer can choose to focus on what she/he chooses, as if being there. Thanks for taking the time. I visited Netherlands twice and fell in love from the first time. It was Nijmegen then Amsterdam. I recently started studying up on Utrecht and its a pleasant surprise to see it is so multicultural and expansive. I must get there soon. Thanks for posting.

This appears to be a busy market day. Go any other day and, oddly, it almost feels like a ghost town.
Climbing the Domtoren is fun if you have the time.

kees Colijn but what kind of stabilizer did you use - it is like you have a steady cam device - it is not like you were walking it is very fluid steady - did you stabilized it in post production and if it yes what kind of software did you use and people did'nt know you were filming them because nobody were watching torward you so They were not awere and so were did you hide the camere because Canon it is not so small .

Volgens mij wordt het een heel leuk wijkje. Na de jaren 60 was het tijden lang een auto-verhandel plek met een mik criminelen. Dit ziet er leuk uit en is zeker beter dan een veld vol lekke accu's en auto-banden.

Chris smith Ufun Uk Having been both places many times, all of us here went with Utrecht. Amsterdam, we felt was somewhat over rated with many tourist over price stores.

Utrecht don't have an airport. Only Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht and Groningen have an airport in the Netherlands.
