How to Remove and Replace the Exterior Handle on a Hyundai Tucson 2004-2009

- In this video we demonstrate the most effective way to remove and replace a Hyundai Tucson Exterior Handle suited for the year models 2004-2009. These handles tend to snap at both of the main points causing the handle to fall out.

I just did the rear handle. It would be nice to have a video of it, but I'll post here in case anyone else needs to do it. The process is pretty much the same apart from the lock barrel, the difference is that the rear bolt on the inner assembly (the white/yellow part) is really hard to get to. I had to use a simple 10mm wrench and feel for it with my hand. I couldn't fit my socket wrench in there, but it would be a lot easier with a ratcheting wrench. I undid the bolt far enough that I could pull the whole inner assembly out. That allowed me to line up the outer handle. Then you have to push the inner assembly tight against the inside of the door and slide it forward with the outer handle all the way in to get the mechanical catch lined up with the outer handle. Once the pieces are in place the bolts can be tightened back up.

Yeah, I just replaced my rear handle today and it was a pain as the rear door handles are really inaccessible on the inner side. Super awkward. Would need some more specialised tools to actually fit and reach in there with a 10mm ratchet
I found by just undoing the one accessible side and only slightly loosening the inaccesible side (since it was nearly impossible to fully undo), I was able to slide the assembly down slightly on the left side, remove the old handle and insert the new handle without taking apart the whole assembly ... was really really finicky trying to get the latch lined up properly but was doable.
In case someone else is struggling with the REAR handles - here is my experience:
1. The hole for the second bolt that we can see in the video is not there for the rear doors. You will need to loosen it with something small (one of those small wrenches with a ratchet did the job for me) and then remove it by hand if you can squeeze in.
2. The handle itself is installed the same way the guy shows in the video. You put one end in on about a 90 degree angle, then you push the handle against the door so it is kind of flush.
3. You slide the handle sideways in order to latch it to the door mechanism and bolt it the same way you unbolted it. It might be trickier to put the outer bolt as it gets quite tight, but the hardest part is actually securing it enough so you can use the ratchet.
Hope this helps. I know its a huge pain and that you’ll mess up your hands, but you got this! Crack open a cold one after that!

I have to curse again on Hyundai's stupid design. The outside handle is 100 plastic and broke. And the replacing job should be not difficult but it is. I once replaced the motor gasket and it's so damn difficult to open it due to its dimension. For the rear door handle, it's more difficult than the one on front. At 10:53 you can see there is a hole that allows you to insert screw driver to work on the bolt that attaches the handle to the door. On the rear door, there is no such thing. The bolt spot area is completely covered by metal penal. The bolt is INVISIBLE and UNREACHABLE and the space is too tight for a hand of most people. And the sharp metal edge near that space cut my hand while I was trying to feel and work the bolt. I barely was able to take it off and put a replacement on it. But it does not work. Had to work again. I could not find one video on the REAR RIGHT door.
I am now facing the same issue... the design is just awful. I managed to get the bolt out, but it did indeed leave quite some scratches and cuts. :D Now I need to figure out how to tighten the new one.. most likely a very small ratched would do the job.

Do the rear door handle
How about the rear right handle? Very difficult to remove the old one coz of the child lock obstructing the 2nd bolt/screw... thanks for very informative video..

I found by just undoing the one accessible side with a normal ratchet 10mm wrench, and only slightly loosening the inaccesible side with a 10mm ratchet with a really shorrt head attachment (since it was nearly impossible to fully undo), I was able to slide the assembly down slightly on the left side, remove the old handle and insert the new handle without taking apart the whole assembly ... was really really finicky trying to get the latch lined up properly but was doable.
Still better than paying a mechanic 500 bucks to do it.
@@jonathantoews4612 For real. A mechanic would surely charge quite a bit for this job (80% of it would be for this exact bolt, lol). It is doable, but it really is a pain in the a... to do. :D
