I had a 96 Subaru and the check engine light wouldn’t go off. Took it to get fix and the light didn’t come back. Later that year I took it to get inspected and was told the check engine bulb was removed.
The check engine light should be on 2-3 second when your turn on the key. If it is not lighted at all when you turn on the key to acc, the bulb could be blown/removed...

I have no catalytic converters on my Suburban, so my service engine soon light stays on because of the lack of upstream and downstream O2 sensors. Sometimes I can clear the code and it stays off for weeks, and sometimes even after I clear the code it just comes right back on and stays on. Truck was tuned afterwards so it doesn’t misfire or run lean trying to figure out the air/fuel ratio with the O2 sensors gone.
Upstream sensors determine the AF ratio. Downstream sensor just checks if the catalyst is functioning properly. Now if it’s a “check engine” light you can have it tuned to stay off or put in the upstream sensor as normal and use some type of emulator plug for the downstream sensors. If it’s a “service engine soon” light that may actually just be for the service light that comes on every 5k miles or however long your maintenance schedule determines. You just need to reset the maintenance reminder and that will turn off. AF ratio should be in the range of 12:1 to 14.7:1. Usually about 13:1 or so is average the lower the first number the richer (more fuel) it runs. Richer is safer with no cats. Leaner is faster but too lean will cause engine damage.
Please help. I paid a mobile mechanic to do my brakes and I guess he did it but now I have 2 lights on. One is the brake light the other flashes on when I drive. Please say you'll travel to Mass.

I’m not a mechanic & before I drive it I need to know that it’s working well . I hate the 8 or 9 speed transmission & the half of an engine “ diesel tech “ . Not a fan of diesel anyway . I thought I was getting a truck . Now I’m out 60k for something I can’t even use really . I’m a cross country driver through uShip . If you need work , I need a mechanic . Thank you for reading .
