    Absolutely fascinating. I didn't know these boats could be peeled and repaired like that. I'm thinking of getting an inflatable next spring. And I'm in Manitoba so I know where to get it repaired now :)

    Your videos have been incredibly helpful. Thank you! I have a west marine hard sole and where it attaches to the PVC fabric the seam has totally come apart. What would be the best adhesive for this?

    Our 6 year old Saturn PVC dinghy is delaminating at the transom.
    The rubber around the tube that the transom inserts into has zero adhesion.
    I that supposed to be glued in?
    Great video!!

    Thanks for this video as I have this issue, can I ask approximately how much glue this repair will use on a C310S.

    How would you go about reinforcing the material that wraps around the bottoms of the transom? I have a few nicks in mine and want to add some material to help with future issues.

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just cut small circular patches with holes in the center to reinforce it.

    I have an older Mercury dingy with just about the same problem. What glue and cleaner would you recommend? Also is there a one part glue ? Thanks

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2-part Zodiac Glue or Stabond Glue and for cleaning, MEK or Acetone. Never use a 1 part glue.

      @@gashopperinc, why not one-part?
      I use 1-part glue and it works great; I have had patches on the boat for two years and 2,500 km and they still hold.

      @@hntrains2Like many people watching gasshopper's videos, I am researching how to do repairs. From what I have researched the best of the "One-Part" glues may be suitable for entry level PVC boats (Saturn, etc), but not higher end Hypalon boats (Zodiac, etc). Hopefully mister GH will chime in and clarify for us.

    Hi! great video, how much would this cost to have done? I am not sure I am up for doing it myself....

      Would have to see the boat to do an estimate for repairs.

    Great video, that boat looks very similar to my Zodiac, at least transom and surrounding! I have a few questions, as I would like to fix mine, it started leaking this summer. 1. How much glue, approximately, did you use to fix that transom? 2. How long did it take? 3. What do you do with the brash between applications, it must harden? Thanks!

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Used about half a quart due to amount of layers the Zodiac Glue suggests. Took about 6 hours over the course of 3 days. I put the brushes in a sealed container to slow the solvents from dissolving. If it's past 24 hours I'll use another brush.

    How many layers of glue do you give until you cure it together?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      2 to 3 layers, depending on the glue being used, and manufacturers directions for optimal bonding.

  • @RodneyTronic
    @RodneyTronic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, you do make it look easy! What glue did you choose for the transom?

  • @DjCjFoto
    @DjCjFoto 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Closer I am to do mine, more questions pop up. I was wondering, when you work at the bottom of transom with a heat gun, would you go to both sides before you start gluing back, or you would glue outside first, then you take off fabric inside. Why I'm asking this is, because you may damage new glue you just finished outside, if you start using heat gun inside afterwards, am I right? Thanks

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a very good question, short answer is yes it's best to get everything undone and prepped before. But NO, with the glue being freshly done, and if done right, that glue will be near impossible to come off, even with heat. Will damage the fabric before the glue let's go.

    • @DjCjFoto
      @DjCjFoto 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gashopperinc Wow, I didn't know it's so resistant to the heat, freshly done. Thank you for answering my questions! I just got Z7096 today, from the local store, so I'm getting close to attack my Zodiac...:)

    awesome video! quick question : im working on a 05 bombard typhoon 305 with rotten transom.
    when i took out the old transom, i found that it was impossible to just take it out since it was imbedded on to the transom instead of just glue and had to cut it out. like this guy did th-cam.com/video/0SXrKa4F6Gs/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AppleboxProductionsInc. (play from :59 sec)
    should i be okay to just glue the transom using weaver 2 part csm glue on the sides without bolting it? or would you rather recommend I use different glue for that part only and bolt the sides down to the transom?

    • @gashopperinc
      @gashopperinc  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there, no need to bolt it in. I would recommend using PVC 2 part glue for that installation but if the new transom is gelcoated, then 120 grit sanding to the bonded surfaces and csm glue will work fine. Just make sure to remove the old dowels and scuff up the surfaces in the transom mount pads. We did a restoration on one with the exact same problem. th-cam.com/video/t9QO-0a2a98/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ANOqhkCjrktUcD70
