The number and variety of calibers for the AR-15 platform is anything BUT limited. There are Heavy Hitters like the 458 Socom & 450 Bushmaster; Long Range rounds like the 6.5 Grendel, 204 Ruger, & 6mm ARC; and calibers that function great in shorter barrels like the 300 AAC Blackout & 6.8 SPC II. And I haven't even mentioned the Pistol Calibers!
I’ve been using 6.5 Grendel for white tail over 6 years now. Just depending I use either my 12” or my 18” I live in south Mississippi so deer down here aren’t very big. Under 200lbs. But I’ve yet to hit one with the Grendel that didn’t go down even out to just over 200yds. I use a 120gn federal fusion out the 18” and a 100gn nosler ballistic tip from the 12” but there’s plenty of other good hunting rounds for it that’s just the two I prefer with the 115gn barnes vortx being another great one. The fairly new 6mm arc seems like it would be good choice for white tail 6.8 spc also works well. My son uses a 10.5” 300 blackout with a 110gn barnes vortx. He’s never shooting any farther than 50-75 yards so the 300 blackout works great but I wouldn’t use it if you will be taking shots over 100yds.
Well you told me what AR 's are best for hunting. You told me what they were made of, you showed me film of you shooting them but for some reason you FAILED to show me the accuracy of ANY of the rifles you were shooting. One of the MOST important part of a hunting rifle is ACCURACY.. Why did you leave this out? If your hunting rifle is not accurate then it is no good for hunting. I would rather have a single shot bolt action rilfe that can consistently put a bullet in a one inch group at 100 yards than any gun your showing me that can't do this. Remember, you are taking a large animals' life. You need to do this in one shot and quickly...
Tho it's not an AR, It is a far superior carbine for harvesting big game in North America: The Marlin Lever Action 45/70 Govt, also rated 4 the ever elusive T Rex... Happy Trails 2U greenhorns! !
Why would you limit yourself with an antiquated cardrige like that? .308, 30-06, 300 Win Mag they all have much more energy on target and shoot much more flat. Really no advantages to the 45/70. I use 8x57 and 7x65R, they make big old holes and you can reach out 200y easily 300y with some practice.
I hunt with a Savage MSR15 in .223. Affordable supressor on the end makes it the perfect hunting rig for me. Foxes and Badgers, even Hare when shooting them in the head. There are no bigger deer in my area than roe deer and for them the .223 is plenty powerful enough. Only game around i would not take are wild boar but they need pretty specialised gear and hunting tactics anyways. Around here you would not bump into them early morning or late evening. You need to hunt them at night with thermal optics and i got a big gun especially for that purpose.
I shoot deer every year with 5.56.....has to do with bullet. Speer 55gr spitzer, Sierra 55 gr SBT both do fine for bullets that aren't made for deer......shot a 10 point with muscles like Mike Tyson last year.....he went about 100 yds after standing still from the shock for about a minute. Shoot them in about 5 - 1 gallon milk jugs. You'll capture the bullet.
Phenomenal for hunting, with some caveats. They have their limits and that will be each cartridge can only do so much. I also know where I live the biggest hunting season is whitetail, which I notice with the big kick of ARs guys just started spraying mags hoping to get accuracy by volume, so it’s hard to watch what some people are going to do when we say yea ARs are good hunting rifles. I would say low cap mags in AR-10 calibers that will require slower methodical firing is a great style for most things, but most AR-15 calibers should remain for small game if you’re hunting with it.
I highly disagree with this list I didn't see Patriot Ordinance Factorie revolution AR-15 chambered in 308. I do have a Ruger MPR American flag and I love that smooth shooter for hog hunting rifle.

Somewhat limited on calibers for hunting with the AR platform. I would think an AR-10 in 308 caliber would be one of the best.

7.62x39 is actually another good caliber for white tail as long as you keep shots 200yds and in. The 123gn federal fusion works great.

I run the Savage MSR10 and a Diamondback DB10 pistol, both in .308, each has it's on suppressor.
Hard to ignore the POF Renegade and Rogue. AR15 sized and 6.8 and 5.9 pounds respectively. Changed my mind about taking a black rifle hunting.
