They should stop describing barrels as being able to shoot "X" number of rounds before wearing out, and tell people it would cost them $25,000 of ammunition to do so instead.

@@danheino7006reloading is only for those that don't have other responsibilities and interests. Even with an interest in shooting, reloading is a whole different beast. It takes heaps of time to not only learn the art and craft, but to do the act of reloading. Not even taking into account the same amount of time it takes to source primers it would take to order 5k rounds to your house from ammoseek. I'm a dad that enjoys his fun time alone, but recognizes a dead end when I see one. Time reloading is time not shooting or spending time doing projects in or around the house, or specifically with my family. Presence is powerful to youngins. Which, in my opinion is far more important. Lastly, the price of reloading costs the same amount as buying multiple more cheap polymer guns. Not really justifiable prioritization of funds imo as well.

I got the M400 Tread 3 years ago. Fantastic rifle and the ambi features are great as I'm blind in my right eye. The handguard is something I replaced. I swapped it with the 15" Sig handguard with mlok/heat relief slits down the entire length as opposed to the factory handguard which gets really hot after 4 or so mags. Aside from that, a great entry level AR. It's a very accurate and reliable firearm.

Money doesn’t ALWAYS equal quality. At the end of the day all of these rifles probably have a phosphate coated milspec BCG.. which is reliable enough for any average shooter. You can invest a slight amount of money to the heart of any “cheaper rifle” and instantly becomes a whole lot more robust. You can get an upgraded BCG and or barrel(realistically the 2 most important parts) for $150 ish each. depending on budget of course. Still putting you under a thousand total. Just take into account how often and in what application you’ll be using your rifle. At the end of the day without proper training and hundreds to thousands of rounds through any system, that $550 rifle is the same exact firearm as a Gucci $4000 rifle.

I shopped for a while before buying the Zion-15. I shot a lot of rifles at the range before choosing it, but when I picked it up and shouldered it, I knew I wanted it. After firing a few mags through it, I was completely hooked. I put an O ring between the upper and lower, and now it shoots like a much more expensive rifle. A friend with a Daniel Defense AR-15 was blown away when he shot the same group with my Zion at 100yds.

I started out with AR's about 7-8 yrs ago. Took a class at my LGS on building lower receivers.
Started buying kits from PSA (Palmetto State Armory)and built probably 10-12 in 5.56x45 and a couple in 7.62x39(including AR pistols). Bought an ATI 9mm ar pistol and an Armalite AR10.
But as far as AR "15's", I'm perfectly happy with EVERYTHING I'm bought from PSA (including my Dagger).
I had "1" problem with a PSA upper about 3-4 yrs ago and it was handled quickly and professionally. They took care of everything and I had it back in "6" days. I consider that "Great Service". Veteran owned and operated and committed to putting quality firearms in the hands of as many Law Abiding American Citizens as possible. You can put together a PSA AR for about $500. But I am starting to pick up a couple of Nickel Boron BCG's.
And personally, "I" prefer the A2 front sight post. There's NO Prolem running an optic plus you have the bayonet lug. (I have bayonets)

@@ericadventuresafieldafloat513 PSA has some decent uppers. As for lowers, a forged lower are essentially all the same. Put CMMG, Bravo Co. (BCM), lower parts kit. As for triggers...go with a Schmid two stage....they
re really nice and cost no more than $80. PSA has that trigger but under their company name. Look at the trigger shoe/bow and you'll see an "S" at the top and another S on the hammer. Yeah Giessele's are nice but do you want to spend $150 for something that's a little nicer? If you're going to go stripped Upper, I highly suggest DelTon or BCM. Because they put "Dry Film Lube" inside all their upper receivers...which is mil-spec.
But many companies ignore this process due to expense. The inside of the upper will have a medium gray color to it. How you'll know it's in there. For Barrels, go with a Ballistic Advantage....most of what they call Modern Profile aka govt. profile barrels are just around a $100 and if you shoot match ammo you'll get 1 MOA. Best bang for the buck. Their performance series are going to be sub MOA. Hope this helps you out some. If it were me. I would go with a PSA upper and do the lower yourself....Oh for Buffer tubes kits...A good company is Aero as well as a lower parts kit too. Rails you personal option...
.I really like and use Midwest Industries Combat rail. They are solid they use a plate that goes in between the screws to tighten the rail down. This is so you never over tighten and always torque the screws down properly. But will set you back $150 for 9.5" or longer. I always use their 12'5" rail. Need anymore help. DOn't hesitate to ask.

Correct. Most of the budget guns get barrels from the same place. They are decent 4140 and you can get 4150 cmv from them as well. Machining, mass production receivers come from similar places as well and it comes down to the acceptable qc. Anderson is an actual OEM for the budget guns. Psa takes everything sent to them , hence all the blem deals. Others don’t want blems type 3 hardcoat contractors are different as well. Big example of that is spikes. They use a couple different shops and end up with different finishes

Over some years, have bought several ARs in the sub-1000 range from makers like Radical, PSA, DPMS, STAG, Springfield, and Colt. Honestly, could have just stopped buying them after my first which was a Colt. I just like trying out different brands. They all shoot fine. Most people are never going to wear out an AR by shooting it too much. Not too many real mercenaries or professional shooters out there. A lot of mall ninja types though. Market is so saturated now with ARs, it is crazy.

My first and only AR15 is the S&W Sport II. Yeh, I haven’t put a lot of rounds throught it; but, it’s actually been great so far. I did immediatley replace the handguard with a UTG setup so I could add pic rails. It has a light mount; and, I also replaced the charging handle with a Radian Raptor. On top sits an Aimpoint PRO red dot. If anything, I’d love to upgrade the platform and put that Aimpoint on something else; but, it’s been a solid reliable rifle for me. I will say that while there might be ideal first guns, any AR that isn't actively dangerous to shoot and doesn't jam is a solid first AR, because even ones with annoyances or suboptimal parts can teach a lot. Hell, I'd even throw the PSA Freedom series in the mix, they periodically run sales where you can get a full AR for under $400 and it is perfectly cromulent as a first gun, backup gun, "I need a new bangstick, but don't want the wife to kill me" purchase, etc.

If the parts are of equivalent quality and it's put together correctly you're probably as well off with a (not bottom end) good middle grade AR and if you want to, then you can think about upgrading the BCG, and other stuff that might, might, be able to be improved. @@-Swamp_Donkey- I almost bought something locally, like a diamondback/delton/radical because I thought shipping and transfer fee would be outrageous. I still ended up getting the PSA rifle with Magpul sights for cheaper than I could have gotten a different one without sights.

@@-Swamp_Donkey- but I will say, the PSA upper is out of spec. I've tried to mate it with an Aero lower, and a Springfield lower, and the rear pin would only go about halfway, and then get wedged. I had to use a punch to get it back out. But luckily it fits the PSA lower perfectly.

Love my Radical Firearms AR, you can easily find them under $400 and they run great. If you're shopping for a AR under $700, don't worry about the steel the barrel is made out of, you're probably under the poverty line like me and you'll not be able to afford the amount of ammo necessary to wear out your barrel for a long while. Barrel wear is something middle class and high class people have to worry about, people who can afford dropping $500 dollars every range visit.

May I recommend the M&P 15 Volunteer series. I own one and I do so enjoy it.
Edit: Don’t forget Aero Precision, they usually run around $900 alongside the Volunteer series.

My wife is a righty, I am a lefty, with an ambi setup, we can more likely get two guns and be able to pick up either one with only a stock adjustment because are different sizes.
