Hello excellent reviews I have these meze empyrean headphones for about 6 months I really like them. There are many reviews that claim that in terms of details and resolution they are not worth the price. And that headphones like Utopia are much better than you think on this subject.
Nice glad you like them Michael I just got done listening to mine as well. I purchased a Norne Audio S4 8-wire 5ft (16.8awg silver occ litz) in a 4.4mm Balanced SONY (mainly for DAPS use) he made a 2ft 4.4mm to Single Ended and a 2ft 4.4mm to 4-pin Balance. I tell you it really helped with the overall sound. Funny thing I was just listening to mine about 10 minutes ago, I just bought a New Woo Audio WA33 Elite paired with my Chord Dave with the Empyrean is just awesome, but I might be selling them because I moved the Hifiman Susvara's which are OUTSTANDING but I am waiting. But the Empyreans do very well with DAPS which I had the Sony WM1Z and the FiiO M11 PRO & M15 sounded just awesome.. You can play almost anything on the Empyreans and HEAR the music without any fatigue.
From my experience with Empyrean in last 4 months or so, it sounds noticeably better with meze's own copper upgrade cable and alcantara pads. The stock cable + stock pads sound super closed in to my ears as I was used to Hifiman Arya's sound stage. The mids were too forward for my likings. But with the copper cable and alcantara pad, it's like heaven. There's wider sound stage, smoother mids and a bit more bass impact. I am yet to try out with the silver upgrade cable though. That cable is ridiculously expensive but should be very well made just like their copper upgrade cable. If only Meze included at least one of the upgrade cables as extra in their packaging, the 3k$ price tag would have been worth it.
I think they are about the same price or around it. I bought one of Eletech's cables blind (personally also found them prettier to look at), their Prudence one. They have multiple categories, and while sound-wise my vocabulary is absolute crap, certain you can find endless other reviews that explain better. =)
@@damienriot Fortitude and Prudence are the only ones so far that I've seen which come in 2.5/3.5/minixlr. But you're also right, mostly IEM-focused. I got 'em off Bloom Audio.

For the unboxing I used the M-Scaler >> Hugo 2 >> Woo Audio WA5LE. For the sound check I will be using some different amp combos to see if anything is better/stronger. They sound pretty good out of the Hugo 2 direct, too. That's a couple of episodes away! But I do really like these out of the box. It's a quality set. Thanks for watching, Yngve!

Yes it seems to take some emphasis out of the treble. I think I prefer the leather pads, though the alcantara pads I think are even more comfortable.
