My grandparents bought this land in 1954. It cost less than a jet ski back then, but jet skis werent invented yet. I am very fotunate to live here but I dont own it. I am always trying to learn more about these things and certainly dont know it all. Thanks for watching.

This is Paul in Iowa. I have a 2000 ZXI and I need help trouble shooting. The start-stop switch stopped working. Ski was running fine. I opened up mechanism and it looks good. There is no clicking sound when I push green button so it is probably not the solenoid. Any suggestions?

@lamonicommunityofchrist You need to get a multimeter to test that switch. It could be a bad connection at the battery. Look for 12 volts through to the switch. It could be a bad solenoid or the wiring inside the metal box is corroded. If 12 volts is present with the lanyard inserted the the starter or the starter bendix could be bad. Most likely the solenoid or the switch on the handlebars is bad. The metal box holding the electrical parts is subject to corrosion and moisture or the starter ground wire or hot wire are loose.

Anyone who watches this…the title is misleading. The first thing to do if the motor cranks and doesn’t start is check compression. Why do anything 17:50 17: 17:50 else if any of the cylinders have low or zero compression? Secondly, all old Kawasakis have a ground plate toward the rear electrical box for your spark plug wires to go onto the white tabs with the metal prongs near the electrical black inspection cap. Use those when cranking the engine to check compression. Secondly, NEVER, EVER, check for spark the way this video shows. If by any chance the motor would spit any mist of fuel while cranking the motor, and you had spark, you are guaranteed to start a fire or explosion. Also, if you’re using an oil injection block-off plate, drain the oil from the tank, disconnect the sensor, and cut the wire going towards the main harness, not the sensor, splice the two wires, and twist or solder them together, then use some heat shrink. No need for anything you saw in the video from other peoples mistakes since you have just tricked the system thinking the tank is always full. Do your proper testing verifying compression first, fuel, and then spark. Kill switches can go bad so verify those first, and then check for spark elsewhere. Also, Kawasaki are known for RUNAWAYS due to the Keihin carbs running very lean at first. Good advice here on using the choke to stop the engine since nothing else will make it stop running. However, a properly installed primer kit, would be to use a dual primer kit by removing the choke plates and using the appropriate fittings. You don’t necessarily need to use a triple primer kit since the third carb gets the fuel first if I recall not making it lean. Lastly, always use an ash-less 2-stroke oil for your pre-mix or use in your oil tank since these motors can’t get hot enough to burn off that extra ash. You can use Maxima Marine Pro or simple Yamalube 2W. Don’t use any oils from wal-mart, your local auto parts store, or even outboard oil since they are high in ash. You will be that person leaving smoke trails across the lake and fouling plugs constantly. Don’t be that guy or gal.
