- Mink DeVille - Spanish Stroll (From "Live at Montreux 1982")
1982 found Mink DeVille in the middle of the transition from their CBGBs New York punk origins to a more subtle, rootsier sound blending soul, R & B, Cajun and other influences. Lead by the late Willy DeVille, whose unique style and inimitable gravelly voice always made them stand out from the crowd, Mink DeVille released their first album in 1977 and imediately had a huge hit with the track Spanish Stroll. By the time of this appearance at Montreux in 1982 they were touring in support of the fourth album Coup De Grace and the show features tracks from across their career to that point as well as a couple of unreleased gems including their cover of the Ben E King classic Stand By Me.
Spanish Stroll by Mink DeVille
Hey Mr. Jim I can see the shape you're in
Finger on your eyebrow
And left hand on your hip
Thinking that you're such a lady killer
Think you're so slick!
Alright
Brother Johnny, he caught a plane and he got on it
Now he's a razor in the wind
And he got a pistol in his pocket
They say the man is crazy on the West Coast
Lord there ain't no doubt about it!
Well allright
Sister Sue tell me baby what are we gonna do
She said take two candles,
And then you burn them out
Make a paper boat, light it and.... send it out
send it out now..
Spanish Stroll
Spanish Stroll
Spanish Stroll
Hey Rosita! Donde vas con mi carro Rosita?
tu sabes que te quiero
pero ti me quitas todo
ya te robasta mi television y mi radio
y ahora quiere llevarse mi carro
no me haga asi, rosita
ven aqui
ehi, estese aqui al lado rosita
Spanish Stroll
Mira aqui!
Hey Johny! Yeah, tenth street Johny
We've been looking for you man
Everybody told me you had moved uptown
Hey! you wanna go for a ride
I'm going uptown myself
For what?
Yeah, ain't it right?
Yeah, one time for Tito Puente, one time
Are you ready?
Yeah, of course we cannot leave out, Mr Ray Baretto
Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?

How can you not love this song? It just moves you and rocks you and oh Willy was excellent. He shall always be missed greatly! What talent!
Love it ! Willy lives forever!
What a stunningly brilliant singer songwright, frontman, wild bandolero my cousin Willie was. Willie reminded me a lot of the very great Phil Lynott also Earl Flynn. What a brilliant band Mink DeVile was, I was very lucky to have got to see Mink DeVille live several times once with Doctor Feelgood, A night never forget if I lived 10 lifetimes
Kissing in the backrow of the movies on be a Saturday night with you.
My name's Minke, (Dutch) en when I asked my mother what my name would have been when I would have been a boy, she answered; Mink. :)
Like the Phil Lynott comparison. What talents.
Amen...👍
eh RRRRRRRRRRRRoooooosita, me rrrrrrrrrobasta mi carrrrrrrrrrro, jejejejeje
This song is the perfect latino pop song. The epitome of cool.Love this so much.It always sounds fresh.Excellent .
Actually makes me sad. There'll never be another WIllie ever. Beautiful music!
True eastcoast sound, sung with his hart and soul no flash, no gimmicks; just his hart and soul in his music. Left us way too soon, but no one can say he wasn't around.
Saw them at Park West in Chicago in 78. What a band and he is the ultimate front man. RIP. What a multi talented genius
I remember very clearly the first time I ever heard this song. It was in an episode of a Canadian TV series and immediately grabbed my attention. I had to figure out who this group was and where they were my whole life that I didn’t know about them. The ultimate definition of cool - Mink DeVille. Rock on in our hearts. 💕
If I’m not mistaken this is where I first encountered a dobro type of guitar also - makes a unique sound. It isn’t present in this performance but definitely is in the recording I heard.
Saw these guys at the John Anson Ford Theatre on a toasty afternoon in LA 1978-79. They got a modest crowd going with Soul Twist.
What a sexy man, wow, he was really a very special man and singer with heart and Soul and a lot of feeling, just WILLY!
Willy DeVille, it doesn't get any better.
Billions brought be here with its amazing soundtrack
Just to say, thank yo Willie.. miss those times
Without TH-cam and the uploader i would never have seen these guys behind the song. Great to watch and what a song it is of course. Would like to have seen them live- no chance now. Top marks. Thanks.
i discovered willy two dayz ago.... im in love this man is f*********** awesome wow wish i knew about him sooner!!!!
Saw Mink DeVille here in the UK in 1977 (was it really that long ago?) could never understand how they weren't bigger.
Listening to "Cabretta" it makes me wonder how an album recorded in 1977 can, in 2010, sound so fresh, so contemporary - how is that even possible?
Still listen to Mink DeVille, and all Willy's stuff- there is an online petition to get Willy DeVille inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame, hope everyone signs it, Willy deserves it.
Thanks for posting.
And still rocking a wonderful fresh breeze in 2023. Willy's is an all-time Great! His band was fantastic. He always had the best.
It was amazing to see Willy perform live. RIP Mr. DeVille.
Best bit of lyric rhyming ever! ❤ ("Johnny" and "On It") 🤣
Canciones de mi adolescencia y juventud que bailaba tan feliz en la disco de Rubí strada con mi amiga Carmen
I saw Willy way back in the early days when all the New york bands came to play Boston before they even had a record out, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Tuff Darts.
classic rock song for all mussos
Fantástico Spanish Troll, Willy estás entre nosotros, eres único.
The piano in this live version is just perfect. Wish the album version included it as well.
I do believe that is the one and only Kenny Margolis on keys. 🎹
Greetings from Brittany ☀️
I think if Mitch Hedberg had been a singer, he woulda sounded kindalike Mink. And I don't mean that as a dis. This is AWESOME!!! SZ xo ❤️
This band is tighter than fuck!
Mink DeVille Band1982, Live in Montreux...
Wiily Deville, guitar & vocals; Paul James, guitar; Kenny Margolis, keys; Tommy Price Drums; Joey Vasta, bass; Louis Cortelezzi, sax...
..AWWWW, that's just sooo fuckin good baby..!!!

Always makes me happy does this ditty.
Me also - Spanish stroll
Always caught him when he was in N.Y.C. lot of classic numbers.
Beautiful song! ONE of the first songs i learnt to play on guitar as a young 'pUnK rOcKer' in Manchester England in 1977! dx
A genie at steelguitar!
fine ditty ; would love to have been there,
thank you willy,
we will always love you.
HOLY Mozes........was it such a sauna there, or was he doing a cold turkey.....? 💧😓💦
Guess! A great talent. I bought this record as soon as I heard it.
Esta canción la bailaba en la disco Strada de Rubí en el año 78 , iba con mi amiga Carmen , que tiempos tan felices
Shit, I didn't notice Thommy Price on my first viewing, went back and watched it again ! That cat was sure in demand: he was also in Scandal at this time, in '83 would join Billy Idol, and in '86 would join Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.....
Triple ones... let me introduce you to what is known as "being in the zone." Click it - 1:11.
There is a such a difference from those great 70's rock stars and nowadays music scene..think Ed Sheeran, Niall Horan...:-(((((((( Love 70's rock forever!!!
It's silly to compare apples and oranges. Sheerin and Horan are pop singers and are very good at what they do.
@@gordonbennett5638 Well.... If I were comparing say The Clash and Aretha Franklin then I'be be comparing apples and oranges as yous say and it would be silly...if I compare this to Ed Sheeran or Niall Horan then I am comparing apples or oranges with.....rather be polite 🙂
Poníamos la canción a todas horas... Rosita... Hacia 1978... Creo
That's Canada's Closely Guarded Secret National Treasure, Paul James on Guitar.
Uuuh, uuuh 🎶 uuuh 🎶🎸 🎤 Bravo Willy Mink 🎶🎶
This band almost looks like a spoof of male sexiness.
I dont want to buy a new car youtube, i just want to enjoy this song!
In junior high school, I sat next to the young kid named Bill who later evolved into this guy - Willy DeVille. Even in 1964-65 he wasn’t like the rest of us. He dressed in tight black pants and fancy shirts.
muchos gracias
one of the best live records , i mean - -thanx a lot for uploads
Adoro está canción!! 🎶🎶La escucho casi a diario .
Super like !
Very underrated musician.
Willy ... you're fuckin' ....too coooool....wherever you are, you're groovin'....
l used to see Mink De ville,at cgbg's ,and a few of the other punk clubs in NYC in the 70's,they were amazing,Willy could have been the next Springsteen imo.
Always told my friend he was better than Springsteen just didnt get the big break.
what a drummer,
damn!
Yo esto lo oía cuando era joven, aquí en mi país, en España jajaja🇪🇸
One of the lucky ones to have just had someone turn me on. Sorry that I had missed this for so many years. From here on out I don't walk, I stroll!!!

So bueno
This song takes me back ...thx guys
Love this!
What an all time classic 👍
as Lame Buffalo pointed out , "That's Canada's Closely Guarded Secret National Treasure, Paul James on Guitar."
- Jack Nitzsche brought Tommy in to replace Manfred Jones on "Return To Magenta". When Tommy arrived in the studio, Mink DeVille was playing and Tommy listened to Manfred for a few minutes and then turned to Jack and asked, "What am I doing here?"
Listen to the HIT version of this great song (on the album, CABRETTA) and you'll understand what I'm saying.
Send it out,
send it out now.
Willy saw you do Spanish Stroll in 1982 with the Original Mink DeVille Band , Always Get Pissed When Your not included in the Original CBGB line up of who's who when Music & Radio etc. Talk about the NYC Lower East Side New Wave/ Punk Scene starting in 1977 , You were Unique and 1 of the Originals --- RIP . B
Bryant Devenshire wasn't born till 78 ! AND I LOVE this dude! No word of a lie he is obviously off his face, but it takes nothing from the tune, my personal preference is as willy de ville, by Agnes ? Not sure who she is but has up loaded loads, along with my first encounter of willy with storybook love, after googling one of my favourite songs good old TH-cam enlightened me with a million other willy beauties xxx I'm now addicted to his music xx live on willy xxx
Wow......Sweat & Teeth would have been a great name for the band.....very good though :-)
in memory of our Padser
just wow i live for music and this song is just majical an all time favourite
stephen patterson awesome
Did Willy ever have his teeth straightened?
The piano part on this live version adds so much; it isn't on the studio version I know.
I saw him playing in live.
Wonderful
Brilliance
@egbertplug
but a wonderful musician who has made many fine albums RIP Willy
Yes they played CBGB'S but there origins were never PUNK!. from their first lp in 77 they were always R and B all the way.Willy just changed personel when the third Lp came out relying on studio greats like Ron Tutt Jerry scheff and Steve Douglas. By 82 he had another band which we see here.
Cadillac moon. That was the one on the CBGB album.

I'm 49 and thought I knew of every Rock artist until I recently watched Cruising. I was blown away by the soundtrack that includes Willy's music. I also learned he was of Native American ancestry like myself. Sad he's no longer with us.
