All the versions , that I've heard about This song are very good , thanks to everyone who makes this song great....supporting with the talent and your work.
Awesome version, that fully respects the vocal lines and has a very tasteful guitar solo - not shredding, while Vinnie could have played thousands of notes, he just restrained himself to be melodic, with a touch of virtuosity ! - plus the orchestration by Jordan Rudess is really nice... Time Odyssey is a masterpiece, anyway.
Unlike some people, I like both tones, I think Jason Becker has got a great sound on pieces like Altitudes, but Vinnie's sound on this and on the whole "Time Odyssey" album is cleaner and lighter, smoother too - so we can hear every detail. Vinnie had a thicker sound on Mind's Eye, a bit like Becker had later, and initially, I thought it was a bit too light in 1988, but I changed my mind in a matter of hours, after listening to Time Odyssey a couple of times. It's more subtle and shows he had progressed again, and with taste. If you don't own it or know it, check out "April Sky", an absolutely wonderful adaptation from two Bach pieces. Anybody who loves electric guitar and beautiful music should own Time Odyssey. Or at least listen to it carefully several times.
that's not difficult... I was appalled at Malmsteen's version, a big disappointment... as if this track was an opportunity to shred... That is sad. Is this the same guitar player who composed and played "Crying" on Trilogy ? This had some soul, at the time... Vinnie certainly can shred as much as Yngwie (and more) but it's not the point at all in this song. Vinnie's version respects the vocal melody very nicely, and the solo in the middle is not so easy but restrained and tasteful, full of emotion... he only let himself go a little bit near the end, and yet, this is subtle and fluid, not excessive... I actually discovered Vinnie's instrumental version before listening to the Beatles recording, shame on me... But this was 31 years ago. I remember reading an interview where Vinnie was very humble when talking about his arrangement, but he can be proud of it ! And the whole "Time Odyssey" album is a masterpiece.
All Vinnie's album sound different from one another. Can't say that of Yngwie. Yngwie used to have soul when he wanted. Very little of that around him now. Vinnie is my favourite player.
Yngwie Malmsteen just released a version of this song and someone told me about Vinny song. Although there is no vocalist on Vinnie's version it sounds a lot better than that crap Yngwie just put out. He needs to be slapped for butchering that song.
The best version
It was this specific version that brought me to the wonderful world of guitars, thanks Vinnie.
Been looking for this version for years. In my opinion, the best version.
Stunning and magnificent... great cover!!! A very well hidden masterpiece of an underrated genius
my guitar hero love minds eye album awesome guitar solos

The guitar tone in this piece reminds me of Jason Becker's on Perpetual Burn, just great
This much better and cleaner. There's no way you can compare those two.
Clean your ears man. Beckers tone was always over saturated and digital sounding. Vinnie's tone in this album is very clear and creamy.
21stcenturyshitstorm that was my exact feeling! Becker’s tone was awful IMO.

Just amazing guitar playing!
His guitar really gentley weeps, under rated guitarist...i start to heard this song and it was from the beatels .
Just amazing guitar playing! 2. I can agreed more. Thanks.
Vinnie’s version is so much better than Yngwie’s version on Blue Lightning!

This is the definitive version of this tune. Effortless expression and finesse.
Time Odyssey album is the best ever
Really good cover version of all time
I made a copy of this song with my brother- who fought in the first Gulf War
