If RC4WD launches a kit of this platform with or without body I think it'll become the first kit I've bought instead of an RTR.

A kit version will be out in the coming months, but it'll be a little bit yet.

If you want "trail scale" truck fun, the TF2 or TF3 (with mods, steering mostly) are both great rigs to pull the trigger on.
Thanks for all the info, it always helps to progress our hobby forward with new ideas to build on and improve.

Just got a marlin about two weeks ago. Drove it once after putting in all the screws rolling around the box. Now treating it like a kit and thank god. Almost everything is loose and no lock tite or grease. Some wet fluid in the transfer case has been all and a drop of blood red grease in the diffs that wasn’t touching gears lol. Still love this thing

I have a brand new in the box original release Trailfinder (1) kit I ordered many years ago. I never got around to building it. When RC4WD and the trailfinder was new the kit was all the rage. They were so new the boxes the kit came in were just generic, unprinted boxes. When you ordered your kit you would check boxes selecting which tires, wheels, etc. you wanted. It did not come with a body back then, most used the Tamiya Toyota body. I bought the Tamiya Toyota pickup body from eBay. I need to sit down and build this kit someday.

So cool to hear you'll be at Beat the Creek! 2022 will be my first year attending but being relatively close to the venue, I've heard a lot of great things about it from the crawler guys near me. From what I gather the "vibe" of just go out, hit the trails, and have fun is similar to that of USTE but the trails are much more challenging by comparison as there isn't the same focus on realism/tiny tires like USTE. Should be a great time and I hope to see you there. Also great video too, love that weathered body. 👍

Waaaaay back in the day I built a TLT/bruiser/Pede/Highlift hodge podge of parts Hilux. One of the tricks I did to add weight to the rear and keep it fairly low was stick-on lead 1/4oz weights up under the bed. Might try that to run that weathered yota body, though I will say the shiny new black parts look a little off on it. But if ya tossed them compass tires on some weathered steelies, and weather and maybe add some 'trail damage' to the bumpers and sliders, would be the my favorite of the 200 pre-release tf3s out there. Just my .02 cents.👍
Look forward to seein' what ya do with it!

I'm with you, I love my LWB TF2s! RC4WD does put longer shocks than is needed on their trucks. I ended up with 80mm shocks all around with Gelande 2 shock hoops on the front. I also had the shackles getting stuck against the frame under compression until I installed bowhouse rear spring mounts and shackle reversal mounts up front. I still have the 90mm on the rear of my 5 year old trailfinder, moved the tops inwards to get a little more flex. Had to make sure the bottom end didn't catch on the springs. I still have the original servo and radio in it, the steering is slow enough to look scale on video!
I want to get the 3 also, just to see what I can do with it. You definitely got more movement after the mods! Since they didn't put springs in the shocks I think removing the short spring from the rear is a good idea, but I would put it on the top of the stack to help prevent axle wrap.
My older trailfinder has excellent flex with no chino mod, no shooter shackles, no Z-boxes! Drive that bad-boy and get it broken in! Then you'll be more able to tell what else you need to do.
How do you like the 2 speed?

    • @RCeveryday
      @RCeveryday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That’s awesome. They do work so much better broken in. So far that 2 speed has performed well, not once has it given me any trouble shifting even while moving.

  • @RandomAndrew

I do like some of the changes they made to the 3.. but to be honest I'm not sure it's gonna be on my shelf just yet. The fact that they havnt made the change to the front leafs.. how they mount to eliminate the steering slop in te front end. I've done the reversing kit, should be a factory thing on the TF#... OTHER THAN THAT I do love that little red truck!

I'm on the fence on this rig but the more I look at it,the more I'm starting to like it. I agree that it's a remaninsince of the old bruiser which is 1 of the reasons I'm starting to think about getting the standard rtr version. I'd love to see if the leaf under mounts will work using the ubolts as I'd love to keep them on. I'm also curious to see how that bell crank steering is gonna hold up over time and abuse. Can't wait to see what you do to get it dialed in.

Good vid on TF3 I hope to see more updates to it, I have been big fan of the TF2 since it came out, I even ran the Stomper for years as well. I have FT3 coming and should be here end of week, As well I was lucky to get Cross Country. Thats another nice chassis.

And if you're looking for a good place to move come on over to Maui Hawaii bro. If you don't want to move here you can always come and visit. I have a guest room. Hawaii has the most amazing rock crawling spots, and hiking trails for overlanding. This island is just epic for RC's. Lots of good go-fast bashing spots as well. There's quite a large community of RC crawling enthusiasts here. And a big drag racing scene. Check out some of my videos if you're curious what the terrain is like over here. Aloha🤙

I still remember getting suspended at school, and my mom made me wear lederhosen with suspenders, though the school staff got away without having to wear suspenders, which makes no sense to me seeing as suspending is basically what they do for a living.
Just glad that they didn't attach pins through my nipples like those klingon recreationalists, because that looks like a more serious case involving suspension. 🤔

Happy to see your insights into this new TF3 and love what you did to fix the back end and you can see just how much better it is. Can you tell me if the RC4WD Cross country jeeps setup is close to the TF3? I'm still not sure if I'm going to use my Special Edition TF3 or if I'm just going to buy another and shelve the limited one. Dude, you definitely need to come join us in Central Florida!!! We would get into many fun and crazy shenanigans and adventures, I'm sure. lmao Plus, I know a guy who owns a hobby shop stocked with everything you'd ever need. ;) I've got a spare bed in my cabin if you want to come to Slippery Rock Challenge (Formerly East Coast Scale Challenge.) You can crash with me and Kilburn if you want, let me know. It's a great event and tons of fun with great people. It's amazing what a few simple mods will do to these things, great job!! People will always whine and complain, no matter what. For ages, people said the TF2 was stale, and now they come out with a new and better version and people say there was nothing wrong with the old one... SMH
