The Dharmarajika Stupa also referred to as the Great Stupa of Taxila, is a Buddhist stupa near Taxila, Pakistan. It dates from the 2nd century CE, and was built to house small bone fragments of the Buddha. The stupa, along with the large monastic complex that later developed around it, forms part of the Ruins of Taxila - which were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
It has been claimed that that Dharmarajika Stupa was built over the remains of an even older stupa that had been built by the Mauryan emperor King Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, though other archeologists alternatively suggest that this is unlikely. Indo-Greek coins found at the site date from the 2nd century BCE, suggesting earliest possible establishment of a religious monument at the site.
Small stupas that predate the main stupa are found throughout the Dharmarajika site, and surrounded an earlier core stupa in an irregular layout. It is known that the earlier core stupa contained a pathway for circumambulation that was made of plaster, and decorated with shell bangles in geometric patterns. The earlier stupa likely had four gates in axial directions.
The stupa was believed to have been established in the 2nd century CE during the Kushan era in order to house relics of the Buddha, which may have been sourced from earlier monuments, and originally buried at the site around 78 CE. Buddhist texts mention that frankincense was used during religious services at Dharmarajika, while the complex was paved with colorful glass tiles.
The site came under control of Persian Sassanid rule, and suffered a period of stagnation. Large-scale developments took place during the late Kushan and Kidarite era which added numerous monasteries and stupas to the site.
The site was devastated by the White Huns in the 5th century CE, and then abandoned. Subsequent rulers, such as the Hun king Mihirakula, persecuted the region's Buddhists. Under his reign, over a thousand Buddhist monasteries throughout Gandhara are said to have been destroyed. The White Huns destroyed not only Taxilan sites, but also devastated nearby Peshawar.
Dharmarajika Stupa is the largest of all stupas in the Taxila region, Surrounding the main mound is a passageway for pradakshina - the ancient practice of walking around a holy site.
The stupa's large anda, or hemispherical mound, is damaged − though the plinth of the mound, known as the medhi, is still largely intact. The anda mound was made of ashlar stone. The stupa's harmika, or fence like structure built atop the anda mound, has been lost.
The stupa was surrounded by a circle of smaller stupas which were built approximately 200 years after the main stupa's construction, and were likely constructed together as part of a project funded by a single patron. Additional stupas were built further along the northern portion of the site by various patrons, and date from the Indo-Scythian period. These stupas form a "Northern Avenue," that had several small shrines with devotional images, rendering the Northern Avenue as a processional corridor. Devotional images were likely relegated to the periphery of the complex due to religious conservatives, who were hesitant to fully embrace the new practice of using imagery in religious practice.
Ruins of several monasteries are located around the main stupa. The verandah style was later dropped in favour of monastic living quarters surrounding quadrangles that were built immediately north, northeast, and east of the stupa approximately 300 years after the stupa's construction.
The name Dharmarajika comes from Dharmaraja, a name given to Buddha who was the true Dharma Raja (Lord of Law), according to Marshall. It is also believed that ‘Dharmarajika’ is derived from the word ‘Dharmaraja’, a title used by Mauryan emperor Ashoka. The stupa is also popularly known as Chir Tope, or "Scarred hill".

There are only very few v. logers on u tube,who gave authentic knowledge about history. One is you yourself and second one is Aadil, third one, belongs to Lhr. There is no doubt you work very hard for each v. log .Many times I visited these places,and collect some knowledge about them, I know visiting these type of places is very difficult, you answer every one, which is difficult in your busy schedule, so thanks for answering, I will surely wait for Luqman life history.

Dear Vimal. There are both Black Dhaka and White Dhaka in Pakistan. Those are located on the banks of river Indus in middle of Mansehra and Kohistan, upstream from the Tarbila dam. Your comment gave me a new idea and I will try to not only research it but also vlog it.

Reference to my previous post, history is so obscure that no one can say whatever he thought about history is hundrad percent right, as before Molana Abul Kalam Azad everyone thought that Zulqarnain of Sura ,Kahf was Alexander, but Molana said he was" Korash "from Faras or Iran, many philosophers start their researches and agree with Molana. Same is the case with Luqman Hakeem, no one knows the exact life history of him. Every prophet brings the message of God. When people interpolate their prophets heavenly books and start worshipping the idols of pious man, God send another prophet. Although you had enough knowledge about history so I would like to know the life history of Hakeem Luqman if you have it

Dharma was the name of Asook's mother. All the things written in Quran in Surah Luqman, matches with the Asook life, when he was converted into Budhism, as some people say Buddha was also spiritual personality and his teachings were near to Islam. Hazrat Luqman was a pious and wise man, he was king and always teaches his son the lesson of humanity ,wisdom and responsibilities of the good king, his son wrote many tablets of his sayings and send them in the different parts of the world,same case is with Asook and his son, Mahindar, while I have noticed non of Muslim philosophers are confirmed about ,that who was Luqman, in reality,
According to my knowledge, Ashok and Luqman have nothing in common. Luqman was a slave but Ashok was the illegitimate son of his father. It is true that Luqman gave thousands of advices to his son, but there is no authentic evidence that Luqman's son wrote those advices on tablets and installed them somewhere or sent them.
Luqman is thought to have lived in Arabian Peninsula during 1100 BC. He was not a Prophet, but perhaps lived during the times of Prophet Ayub (AS). Later he was recognized by the name of Hakeem Luqman. The near English translation of ‘Hakeem’ is wise, but in Arabic it means much more than merely being wise.
My opinion about Buddha is the same as yours that his teachings were close to Islam, but this is not a presumption because the followers of Buddha made idols of him and then worshiped those idols instead of Allah.
History is a witness that hundreds of religions came from Adam to Muhammad but idolatry was not allowed in any religion. Therefore, I am not ready to accept Buddha as a prophet.
I am also the author of some books along with a Vlogger and one of my books is called "Tarikh al-Anbiya" which contains all the Prophets who have been mentioned in some way or the other by the Quran.

You have commented on my vlogs in a very academic manner which is very nice. I am not a history expert but a humble student and researcher of history. You are right that I come fully prepared, but it is very easy to tell the history and details of gardens, tombs, palaces or mosques in front of you, while standing on a pile of stones like Sarkup or Dharmarajika Stupa, turning old and somewhat faded pages into a story is a difficult task for me which I do honestly with all my energy because history is not my profession but passion.
I have said that I am a student and I keep looking for a teacher to learn even a word from anywhere.
