    Just happened to one of my small windmills a couple weeks ago, it is fully recovered now. Don't trim any fronds, and use copper fungicide, and a new spear will push out, after winter ive seen perfectly healthy palms pull spears before, they recover quick, your palm will recover.

    I think you nailed it with the fertilizer theory. I over fertilized a needle palm once. The new open frond shrivelled up and pulled out. I didn’t treat it since it was summer. Just let it grow out. It’s still around now. I’m sure they will just grow a new spear soon.

    Awesome video. Do you by chance know what would cause new fronds "spears" to come out lower on the crown shaft than older previous spears? Otherwise healthy palm. Also the new spears "fronds" are shorter in overall length than previous fronds lower down on the crown shaft. Thes are Montgomery palms. Planted 8 over grown ones from 15 gallon pots and three of the 8 hear over a yar later are not doing well. I am in florida with full sun. No crazy cold winters this past winter either. They get palm fertilizers 4 times a year and plenty of water from irrigation and I spot treat weekly like clock work. Thanks.

    Oh man! Sorry James that is wild that they have bud rot. Our winter was super warm. Maybe it was our colder spring.

    Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday on one of my phoenix canaries date palm ,it is a big palm about seven years old ,never had a problem before with fertilizer ! But now I will be using a liquid fertilizer and not granules or pellets ! ! I applied fungicide into the heart of the palm and waiting see if it is going to survive ! !

      Don't forget to also add hydrogen peroxide.

    Large sabal had spear pull, recovery chance? Didn’t catch it too late but caught it late enough to the point where there was bugs. I pulled the spear and poured hydrogen peroxide then two days later copper fungicide and every so often hydrogen peroxide. I’ve had spear pull on this stubborn Pindo and it always came back. But it was small, how long to know on a large palm? And sabals are native here, just had transplant shock and strong winds over the winter months it looked like it had good growth till we got flooded with rain and winds

    Hay James I have an 1 year old Mexican Fan Palm I ordered from Amazon back in March and it's has not put out not one fronds I have it in a sunny window good soil 😥😥😥

    • @johnoriley6392
      @johnoriley6392 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like it is pot bound. If your Mexican fan palm tree doesn't have enough room for roots in its pot then it may slow it's growth. Be very careful not to panic and over water it or over fertilize it.

    It should be fungal infection. I just pulled the spear from my LICUALA palm and jet sprayed it with double dose of contact fungicide and hoping all goes well.

    My Chinese fan palm literally just spear pulled tonight. I think it was exposed to touch frost. I'm trying to heal it now.

    Happens to my palm every year. I have no idea why and it always regrows. It’s only my windmill palms. My Filifera never does it.

    • @johnoriley6392
      @johnoriley6392 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try finding a fungicide. If a Crown of a palm tree gets too wet that is exactly what happens. It will have a spear Pull if the Crown rots. Trachycarpus Fortunei and Trachycarpus Waggies tend to get it more easier then Washingtonia Robusta and Washingtonia Filifera. There are some cheap copper fungicide available on eBay.

    Have you ever cut the top off a windmill palm yourself and did it survive?

  • @jamesvantine3308

    Could I put hydrogen peroxide In my crown of my windmill palm while it’s in the box to prevent infection, or would it not do anything?

      same thing happened to my 2 small trachies.I heard this from another guy who grows palm trees in Poland in similar climate to the one we have here in Ontario.basically when you uncover small palms and you get a -5/-6 cold spell for a night or 2 in the spring,it will rot the spear. it doesn't usually happen in bigger palms because their spears are much thicker.I believe this to be the cause because during the winter the spears on my palms were fine also.

  • @gameram6382

    Pour hydrogen peroxide 12% straight into the palm heart. Keeping treating it. I had it.
