Hi JT, I don't have a Meadow Lark, but I do have a Robin. Too stingy to pay Seki City prices for a knife that small. The thing is that you can get the Robin, Meadow Lark & Cara-Cara in G-10 with solid liners for only a few dollars more than the FRN versions. So I went for the G-10 Robin. It also offers a 4-way option on the clip. Something you don't get with the Dragonfly. I'm one of those wierdos that prefers tip down carry! On the FRN, I'm no expert on the composition of the material, but something you could check - if that lovely pink permits - is the glass content. I have noticed that if you check the FRN on a Spydie with a lens you will see a lot of sparkly bits. Especially visible on dark FRN like your Wharnie. I suspect that the nylon is probably cheaper than the glass reinforcement & that Ganzo are cutting corners in this department. Ciao mate.
I beg to differ. Yes, one gets what one pays for: for 10 bucks, one gets a very light, thin blade with flat grind and 440C steel. No complaints with the jimping, as it's marginally an improvement over other Ganzos, the G729 included. Blade flex? Gee, my knife has no bade flex at all, haven't even adjusted it. Yes, Spyderco is making improvements on FRN, and the Taiwanese Chaparral Light is an excellent example, but I always thought the Delica FRN looked cheap, and the Ganzo doesn't look that much different. A more important feature worth mentioning is the nice Ganzo finger choil which the Delica sadly lacks. The Spyderco does have a slightly better fit and finish, arguably better scales, and I could see paying double for those improved features. But, is the Delica 7 to 8 times better at 7 to 8 times the cost? I really don't think so.
Just a matter of preference I suppose. I bought another one of these, and a Byrd Meadowlark, and didn't like either. To me the Delica feels way better in hand and is superior in build quality. That said, as far as value goes there's room for debate. The Delica is pretty expensive for what you get, so I understand where you're coming from. If you like the Ganzo, there's no need for a Delica at all. And plenty of people like it a lot it seems.
I like low cost knives so much better. The challenge to find the most quality for less money is more fun. Go ahead spend $200 bucks for a knife, you will hold it and polish it and put it away.....the end.
I like low cost knives and more expensive ones. I enjoy carrying the nicer knives, so in the long run they actually get used more than the budget ones. The quest for a great budget knife is always a fun one to undertake.
The bottom line is that you're getting a better knife for less money. Spyderco fanboys will hate that but it is what it is. The 440c is a better steel than the meadowlark boasts. The FRN is the same feel (except the texture on the F759 isnt bidirectional). The hole flicks the same. This is a 'beater' knife designed to do all the work while your trophy knives sit on the shelf being sad. Buy 5 of them just to have them around..
Well, yes, I'd agree that the Firebird is better than the Byrd, but I still think they both suck. I see what you mean about buying a bunch as beaters, but why not just spend $10 more and get a beater that will last?
I have four of these F759M's; two serrated and two plain edge. None of them have any side-to-side flex, and the jimping is not shallow and definitely locks into my thumb and finger. My spacers are also all perfectly aligned with the scales. Additionally, these knives came out of the box as sharp as any knife I've ever owned. I think you somehow got a bad one. Maybe they don't pay the same attention to the pink ones? Is there such a thing as an imitation Ganzo?
I thought the same thing. So I bought another and also got a Byrd Meadowlark to compare them. My 2nd one was way better, and I prefer it to the Meadowlark. That said, I still don't really care for the feel of the knife. I think there's an update video that I made that talks about it too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the reply. Tried to find your update video but I'm missing it... could you post a link? I'm enjoying your channel. Opinions vary and every knife is not for every person. Nothing wrong with that. I really like mine and they feel great in my hand, but others might like a RAT or a ZT or Benchmade or Buck or maybe a Gerber Harsey Air Ranger (have you reviewed that one?). Like they say, "YMMV".
Just watched it, thanks! Funny thing, you said almost the same thing in your follow-up back in July that I said in my comment above. I hadn't seen the follow-up yet but I guess I was quoting you. Take care and thanks again.
You either received a lemon like your description suggests may have happened, or they changed them. I just received one in the mail and it's perfect. No blade play. I took it apart to clean and lube it, and it's honestly excellent. I'm astonished by the quality for the price paid. I'm not sure if you were unlucky, or if I was lucky. Either way, excellent video.
Thanks a lot. I did get a second one, and I also compared it to a Meadowlark, and honestly didn't love either. Much better built than the first one I had, no question, but still not the knife for me.
I think so many people think that ganzo is trying to produce knives that are the same quality as high end knives. THEY ARN'T ! .. they provide a quality product for a decent price. Something the whole world should do.
Nice review and thanks for the details. I have this knife and I like it, I don't use it for hard works, only small tasks and some food preps, for the price and materials this knife is ok for some people who don't need premium knives to get their job done.
I have 3 Ganzo Firebird F759M and all 3 have excellent lockup, with no vertical or horizontal play and there is no flex with the scales. That indent on the lock release looks like the thing Spyderco claims make accidental lock release less likely when holding the knife tightly. My knives are not perfect with the scale to back spacer, but I never noticed until you mentioned it. I think the FRN scales (that also have nested steel liners) are very good. The Spyderco scales at the front half bites in when pushing forward and the rear grips when pulling back. The Ganzo F759M traction is best pulling to the rear throughout the scale. The gimping on the thumb ramp and the finger choil are virtually nonfunctional, but they really are not needed with this knife. The Ganzo scales are not rounded off and the Spyderco is. All in all, I am impressed with the F759M and, though it is not my primary knife, I carry it as my second knife and I used it quite a bit during the day. This is not a bad knife at all; I can open and close it single handed and lockup is as good as on my Spydercos.
Hey there, thanks for your feedback. I'm glad your knives were so good. Looks like I need to dig deeper into the model and do a follow up. Maybe I got a lemon or something. I guess the only thing to do is order another one of these Firebirds plus a Meadowlark 2, and see what it's all about. Thanks again for letting me know about your knives. The last thing I want to do is judge the whole model based on the example I have if my example is unusual compared to the standard. Take care!
yea your right its not the best ganzo.now look what you made me say lol.😣.but none of mine have that much blade wobble.on the up side mine only cost eight dollars delivered.good review as always mate thank you.atb paddy👍☺
Thank you my friend. Not sure where you find them, but mine cost $17 from China. The Meadowlark costs $19. So I'm hoping when I do the comparison video that they really are comparable. I appreciate that info and your take on the Firebird. Regardless of if it has lock up issues or not, there's no doubt that it isn't their best effort. Thanks again bud!
JT's Knife Life I'm sorry I wasn't directing that at you its just a fact.last year a delica was sixty pounds now ninety to hundred.i really don't know how they justify that sort of price rise. Ps don't tell anyone but I have a pink one to.lol.😜
I have 2 F759's, and I somehow feel we're talking about 2 different knives. I have no blade play whatsoever, and the scales feel like FRN - do they feel cheap? No, they feel just fine to me. Would I prefer G10 scales on this knife? Yes, but I'm fine with what I purchased at this ridiculous price. Will I pay 10 to 12 times more for a Spyderco Delica 4? No way.
I realized I may have received a lemon, so I did a follow up with another F759 and a Byrd Meadowlark as well. And, well, I realized I just don't like the model. The 2nd Firebird was better built, but I still hated it in hand. Felt the same way about the Meadowlark. Those materials, that design, just not for me.
Bought mine for back packing and hiking. Just a beater that I wouldn't miss if it got lost. I've had it in my pocket ever since. Razor sharp and super light. Good build quality. I give it 5 out of 5 stars
Did you try tightening the pivot to deal with the blade play? I can't recall if my meadowlark FRN had any blade play out of the box, but I did play with the tightness of the pivot to get it to a point where there was no blade play but that I could still flick it open with my thumb.
Yeah, and when I tighten the Firebird there's still a bit of play and a lot of flex. Looks like I'll be doing a follow up video in the future hahaha. Thanks for letting me know about your Meadowlark!
For sure! I actually really enjoyed the meadowlark overall. I would even go as far as saying I like it better than the delica due to the forward finger choil and the slightly wider handle. What I didn't like about it though is that some of the edges such as the lock and the inside of the byrd hole were a bit sharper than I would like and noticeably sharper than those edges on the delica. I've thought a lot about getting a Cara Cara FRN due to the same things I like about the meadowlark being present on that model as well.
Nice, I'm looking forward to getting one now! I'd be surprised if it wasn't a better knife than this Ganzo, but I was surprised about the Ganzo as well. Maybe the one I got really was a dud. We shall see!
I should be able to let you know which I think is better in the next week or two. I ordered one of those Ganzos recently... shipping just takes a while to get it to me.
Seen the blue one back in stock at power cutlery for $12 I picked one up. Beings I already have the FH21, FH921, F7533, and the F753m1. Got the F759m in mail. Tight lock up, no blade play, dead centered, Ganzo sharp, my action was rough. Took it apart cleaned the grit from machining oiled it and it's smooth as butter. Blade is definitely super thin wouldn't trust it to pry on anything but for my day to day use it's a slicer. They also have the G733 back in stock in green ordered one of those about 30 mins ago been looking for a while everywhere was out of stock.
We're you there, holding the shitty one that I had? No? Right, because that was me. Mine sucked. If you like yours, great. If it's built well, great. Mine wasn't. It sucked. Some Ganzo knives are great, in my opinion. Some aren't in my opinion. That what I say on my channel, my opinion of things based on my observations. I don't lie, and anyone who acuses me of that needs to fuck off.

Really glad that yours are good! Hopefully I'll hear from more people and we'll see that my issue is an aberration and not normal at all. How do you feel about the scales?
The scales are good for me, the back spacer isn't perfect but also not bad, the ergo the same i think the spyderco variant is better no doubt. But if you look at the price difference especial where i live €110 vs €10 ( i bought him for 7.50) its a very nice knife and i can especial recommend it to people that want to try the model before spending €110 on the real deal.

Yeah, I really like the steel a whole lot, performs well, retains edge well too. Funny thing, I picked up a Mwadowlark after this video was posted just to see the difference and I don't like those scales either hahaha.
It has a lot of good reviews that knife. But always can be people dissapointed with a knife. I prefer my F729 anyway, tough i do not have that. Regards!.
I know this is 4 years old but......... In 2022 this knife is a whopping $13 dollar's for 440c steel blade. And your being that petty about it ? No worries. I'm not subscribing to your channel. Think for that price it's a steel and your knife snobbish review is showing. It snot meant to be a Spyderco knife.
Yeah, I don't remember being snobbish about it, I just disliked the knife. I remember there being a lot of hype about how great this knife was, and then I got it and just sort of thought it sucked. Other people have told me I got a lemon, but I've had the Spyderco made Byrd Meadowlark which is the exact same knife and I thought that sucked too. So if you like it, good for you, but it just didn't work for me. Also, this channel was ended about a year ago so I won't stress not gaining a subscriber. Never stressed about that stuff anyway. Take care.
Hey man, i hear you. But if I remember correctly, there was a lot of hype about how this knife was so great and was on par with a Spyderco Delica, so I was expecting it to at least not suck. I'm pretty sure I was hard on this one mostly because of how much I disagreed with the other perceptions that were out there about this knife.
@@JamesJones-i2v I made this video 7 years ago, but I still stand by my opinion that this knife sucks. Can't remember exactly what I said about the pink, but I do remember it being a pretty shitty looking shade of it. I have some pink knives that are good and good looking. This was neither.
Mediocre! If that. Looks like a gas station knife. Definitely a let down by Ganzo from what I can see. That plastic looks shinier, sliperier, and more translucent than Spyderco.
Yeah, it just isn't what I thought it should be. Gonna have to do a follow up about it though. Either some people really love the knife or I got a dud...

Take care.
This is like a high end guy doing a review on a knife from a gas station 😆 bra its a 17 dollar knife 🔪 cut it some slack 😊
You dont like it because its pink get that outta here
@@JamesJones-i2v I made this video 7 years ago, but I still stand by my opinion that this knife sucks.
Byrd is way better!!! mine are great!!
I hear you there, probably should have picked one of those up for comparison. Thanks for letting me know!
