Derek, thank you so much for this video. I am ordering one now. So, looking forward to using various Sequencer/Arp Apps as well as Live/Bitwig to trigger my hardware midi'd Jupiter-8, Prophet-5 and Juno-60 ....... endless possibilities. ;)
Good review! Even though I'm content with the iC2+, I never say never to a possibility of purchasing iC4+ in the future. I like how you show off the diversity of the device by using the 06 Mac Book leaving hope for those who may run XP or an older operating system. just bought the iC2+ but using Reason 6(PC), Synthstation25, MPD24, Microkorg. iPad3/iPod4. Small setup but it works for me.
Alfonzo - Thanks for you comment. :-) It is nice that some older hardware can work. There's always this move to "upgrade to the latest" when what folks have works just fine. Having said that, I would not suggest anyone stay on XP much longer on any machine. because of the end-of-life and lack of support issues.
You are welcome Kkidzz :-) Sounds like you have a great setup there to control! Nice gear! I hope to have a couple more shorter videos up in the next few days illustrating some of the other features I mentioned in this one.
Thanks. I was lucky re: synths. Grabbed them in the mid to late 90's before ESlay ;) My iC4+ arrives this weekend so I will be spending time incorporating my iPad and midi controllers into my setup. I'll be following you and might throw a question at you from time to time. Take care.
As someone with multiple DIN MIDI devices slaved daisy chain style using a 1980s KX88 as a master with a wish to incorportate DAW, sequencers and VSTs on ipad, android and Windows as well as a 24 track Zoom r24, you effectively articulated how this device could simplify and add variability to my set up. Outstanding video! I am subscribing based upon the quality of how you deliver useful information on video. Many thanks. Have you done a Video with the bluetooth to MIDI wireless connectors from Yamaha? I was wondering if one of these bluetooth devices could be connected to the input of this iConnectMidi4 device with multiple DIN MIDI synth modules connected to the MIDI OUTs while still using the usb connectors for apple WINDOWs or android VSTs.
Thanks for posting this. I have a quick question. If I want to sync several analog DIN MIDI gear and an Ipad, do I need to use cubasis and the iRig as you did or can it be made directly? just the analog gear + ipad (using some korg software, like korg gadgets for example) + iconnectmidi4? thanks for your time!
Daniel - if you are in the US, check in with the following: Guitar Center (online - or one of its related subsids), B&H or Sweetwater. There may be others but I believe you'll find one or all of those have or will have stock now or soon. But I don't know for sure, just what I understand might be the case.
Hi - thanks :-) Glad you found it useful. No. It doesn't provide clock sync natively, but if you hook up various DIN MIDI gear and / or class-compliant USB MIDI gear and / or Mac/PC and / or iPads, then any one of them can send a MIDI clock signal that can then be routed in the box to any other MIDI destination (or multiple destinations).
Great review. Quite different to other negative reviews I have seen online stating latency issues using this device. However, could you explain how are you routing your audio to your monitors/speakers in order to listen while playing? Are you using a mixer or another interface from one of your computers?? I'm really confused.. Thanks for your time doing this review!
+pepeflores2003 Hi - yes - I have an aggregate device that incorporate both the iCM2+, iCM4+ and another audio interface. These days you could use an iCA4+ to do all in one :-)
I have a question if you wouldn't mind answering, as you seem very knowledgeable about the interconnects of this device. I want to use the TouchDAW app on Android (which supports RTP-MIDI) to connect to the iConnectMidi4+ wirelessly over ethernet. They are connected to the same router, and TouchDAW is seeing the ports named ETH 1 - ETH 4. But I can't get it to send any standard MIDI data even though I have the ETH 1 routed to DIN 1 through iConfig. What setting might I have to use either on the TouchDAW side or the iConfig side to route the data through a MIDI DIN port?
+Suger Funk Hmmm. I use TouchDAW on Android too. It's a nice app. I'll see if I can figure out what you're trying to do and come up with a detailed answer if I can.
Yes Peter - I can confirm that is correct. However, it is better to use a lower power hungry device on port 2. (I believe the power output is different between ports 1 and 2). I use a 3 on port 2 and it does remain charged in normal use for me as long as it has a good amount of juice to start with. Yes - the config stays intact on power recycle.
Couple of small comments. 1.) I called the Macbook 2006 a Macbook Pro in a couple of places. Sorry :-) 2.) Some folks have had issues with the 30-pin to lightning connector with the 2+ but I have not experienced that either with the 2+ or the 4+. If you have any issues, contact iConnectivity and inquire.
Hi, thanks very much for your great videos. I'm about to buy an iPAD Air 2 for music production. I'm a bit old school and try to record everything as an independent instrument. My question is could I plug my iPAD 4 to Tascam Neo 2488 stand alone recorder and record the signal as it is, through USB, perhaps ? Thank you.
Hi vesodoc. Thanks for your kind words. I checked the specs for the 2488 and, no, I don't think you can do that directly. I would be glad to be corrected but from my cursory inspection the USB connectivity would not support that.
Not directly using the iConnectMIDI4+. But you could using the iConnectAUDIO2+ or iConnectAUDIO4+. The iConnectMIDI2+ and iConnectMIDI4+ connect iPads to PCs / Macs but the iCA2/4+ have line in as well.
Thanks for your answer. I dont need audio4+ because i have a roland octa audio interface. I meant if i can connect the "PC midi in/out" port of my Nord MModular . Nord MM has 4 midi ports. the first 2 are for pc "control" connect throught an interface in order to load presets througth Nord Software, the other 2 are for casual midi implementations like connect midi keys etc. I am sure i could use iConnect for control my nord but i m not sure if it will be ok to transmit by PC midi ports.
Great review, like perfect!! thanks a lot, I am having quite a bit of difficulties setting everything up, would you be able to do another video explaning the program a little bit? thanks a lot
Thanks gregorio. :-) Check iConnectivity's site. There are a series of 13 tutorials there that include quite a lot of information on how to set up various items in iConfig.
Apologies for the late reply - I don't know. I don't have access to a PS3 and don't know what technologies it provides. If it has a standard DIN MIDI and can respond to and/or send standard MIDI, then possibly - yes.
Derek, thank you for an excellent, thorough demo of the IC4+. This was very well presented. I think the only thing you missed was whether it can make a decent cup of tea.
+OneVolt PerOctave I wish I could drink tea. You would think, being a Brit, but, tea tends to give me headaches. I drink coffee by the jugfull however with no ill effects. Odd eh? :-) Thanks BTW ;-)
+MusicInclusive Thanks for the prompt response ;) That is weird, I have never heard of that effect from tea before - a few pints of Theakstons maybe, but not tea. I got an IC4+, and I am very happy with it.
+1VperOctave Yes, sorry about that :-) I'll try and be more prompt in the future - been heads down doing some iOS app development and rather set aside replying here. Apologies! :-D
+MusicInclusive Hi Derek. No need for apologies, I was just joking. I really appreciate the effort that people like you put into YT videos - reviews, demos, tutorials. Thanks :)
I am coming late after that post but do you know why when I am connected with my Yamaha keyboard I have the sound on my iPad or IPhone only with the helmet ?
I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t even see the potential after a while but 3 or 4 years later I find it and it’s just such a game changer because at first the midi topic with the din ports had confused me. But straight up they build these like a brick shithouse swear to god you could toss it without a dent. Not that I do that but anyways my models a iconnect midi 2

Have you tried this with the Auracle software as well?
Brilliantly and thoroughly explained sir! many thanks. I hope they sent you some free gear??

Could you confer that the iPads are charged in this setup? Also, does the configuration (routing) stay set when you turn the thing off and on again?
Yes Peter - I can confirm that is correct. However, it is better to use a lower power hungry device on port 2. (I believe the power output is different between ports 1 and 2). gianlorenzo mungiovino That's the Auria DAW.

MusicInclusive the software setup is very vague in the official videos and thats what Im trying to understand.
Could I use this to connect my e-drum roland TD-1kv sound module to play station 3 midi-pro adapter? :)

Can I hook up my korg sound modules up to this
I don't know :-) Which ones do you have. I'll have a stab at answering more fully then.
will it work with windows 7+8 laptops for the I connect midi 4+
Yes :-)
I am coming late after that post but do you know why when I am connected with my Yamaha keyboard

I have completely given up hope that I'd ever see one of these. Talk about a totally mismanaged product release.
