I know this comment is 3 years late, but the jam at the end is one of the best things I've ever heard. I really need a longer version of that, please. Not likely, I know. I suppose I'll keep listening to the end of this video over and over. Absolutely beautiful.
5 years ago... Nick hasn't changed at all! Very informative video, you've got my thumbs up. Here in 2019, I am still considering buying a iConnectMIDI4+ lightning. I'm glad Nick mentioned the audio thru disabling the audio plug on the iPad. That's a deal-breaker for me.
Always comprehensive and informative and a fantastic reference for aiding in my decisions on gear and now the app world. Wonderful human beings ! Happy New Year !
Brilliant show as always and fantastic play-out jam! 2 Gold awards retained - brilliant! I think I'm about to crack on the Midi4+ after watching that. Was waiting for the Audio4+ but got an OP-1 and I think the Midi4+ (God they need to change their naming scheme!) will integrate everything tightly... plus its available now :-)
The iconnect AUDIO 4+ has just been released / is being released. That has analog audio, midi and host and 2 computer devices. Also, as far as I know, it can be linked to the midi 4+ which will then add a plethora of audio / midi possibilities. I would love to see a review on this product sometime soon.
BE WARNED: The iConnect4+ 'host port' does NOT support Class Compliant AUDIO. Great video review guys and I agree the iConnect4+ is a nice piece of midi kit, but I would question the Gold Award as you overlooked a very key detail in its current limitations that I hope will be resolved with a future firmware update (but likely not from what I've heard). The subject has been flushed out a little more over on the AudioBus Forums (see link below). The primary selling points of the iConnect4+ was the ability for Audio pass thru with several iOS devices, midi connections & routing all while charging iOS devices. IMHO one of the best examples for it's application (outside of the studio) is in a mobile performance setup where one is performing with an iPad and other iOS devices, midi controllers perhaps and some form of Class compliant audio interface (for mic inputs since we are musicians after-all and not everyone lives strictly in "the box"). I have been developing an iOS looping rig for months and patiently awaiting this piece of gear to discover it "might" be offered in the future release of iConnectAUDIO4+. Well this is exactly where the iConnect4+ falls short and to my disappointment has become relegated to a fancy midi router. Allow me to briefly explain (refer to thread below for more details). My performance setup would use the iPad (Air) as the brain (idea is to be compact and leave the laptop at home finally) with Apple connection kit into a USB hub plugged into the 'host port' on the back of the iConnectMidi4+. Then iOS devices, midi controller (i.e. Softstep, etc) would plug into the USB ports, etc. In theory, this would give you the perfect rig with all devices communicating and audio flowing in the digital domain until it reaches the Class Compliant interface (i.e. Focusrite Scarlett 18i8) and converts once beautifully out to the PA, etc. Well turns out you can't use a Class Compliant Audio Interface with the iConnect - only midi, NO audio pass thru and loss of charging ability on iOS. So I'm afraid the iConnect4+ is now relegated to the studio, but it's back to the drawing board for live performers. Such a shame this was not thought of, nor clarified earlier. If anyone catches this, SAVE your money and wait to see if the longer awaited iConnectAUDIO4+ resolves this. If anyone discovers an alternative to this device, PLEASE hit me up on the Audiobus Forum or through my music site: www.porangui.com/ AudioBus Forum Thread: forum.audiob.us/discussion/4613/iconnectmidi-4-aggregate-audio#Item_18
Seriously guys, you have to start giving us some stand-alone jam videos with the review gear. I know it seems overly indulgent but the taste at the end is just not enough. Great stuff!
We need to be able to buy those weird cables to connect iOS devices separately (30-pin & Lightning). I had a look around but couldn't find these anywhere. I guess they might be custom made to ship with the iConnect boxes. Did you guys ever try audio pass-thru from computer to iOS App? I'm thinking for sampling / recording into relevant Apps & Audiobus for processing.
Please tell me about that very cool looking keyboard to your left? It would be great if there was a 49 or 61 key version (maybe with Bluetooth!!!) great video and I'll be checking out your other videos for sure! Thanks
Actually I'm almost that you CAN select not to use the audio pass through on USB port by port basis. I configured mine in the way that one front USB port takes my audio into PC while the other does not. Depending on the purpose (record vs play around using external MIDI HW) I can plug the iPad into one or another. Nonetheless thanks for the new episode, we've been waiting for it a long time :) keep up the fantastic job. When you take a break I gradually start being convinced that the whole iOS pro music app industry has gone idle (no new interesting stuff).
I ordered the lightning connector version from Sweetwater a week or so ago and they are still waiting for them to arrive. I am told that the set-up and integration with one's studio takes some time but after some work will become "set and forget".
What ive discovered is Ableton is really good for building what performance sounds(midi, wav) you want, but then you wlll load up a DJ mixing software for all the play lists and effects parameters on the fly when using a lot of USB devices. Ends up being heavy on the processor.. So you will be running in addition to Ableton with say VirtualDJ(lol), Decadance, Traktor pro 2, or Serato.
Now that you have gone though the Iconnectivity stuff, can you give a solid review of the PUC Wireless MIDI Interface too? As for the Korg gadget, I am feeling a bit robbed to dish out Money on it again.
Great video! You can turn 'Audio passThru' off using iConfig, this will allow audio to come straight out of the headphone jack. Also, make sure to use a powered USB hub when connecting multiple class compliant MIDI devices to the 'Host Port'. With a powered USB hub, you can connect up to 8 class compliant MIDI devices.
sonicstate Inside iConfig ( on pC ) go to Audio Info Tab. You can set audio buffer there, and at the bottom you have the USB Device Jacks section , just disable iOS jacks and apply / reset. Now your audio will came out out of regular ipad speaker/headphones. One more thing. I had some issues on windows with clock sync, and I found that it was caused by Asio4All. There is a new updated version of that driver and it fixes the issues ;)
Oh wow, bringing in samples from Dropbox. It might not be new to you guys, but I haven't seen it before. I have to admit that I caved on Gadget due to the upgrade.
please can anyone tell me if i can export the midi clips from korg gadget to ableton project instead of samples!??! for me this would make me walk to my apple store and buy an ipad right now! Please please please let there be a midi clip export too!!!
Can anyone help me figure out how to get dropbox within Ableton? I'm working with Mac OSX and Live 8. I've installed dropbox on the laptop. Do I need to take extra steps to get it in Ableton or should it automatically be available? I've searched the internet, but haven't found anythign on this yet. Great video! The sonicstate videos are awesome and very much appreciated!!!
Nick and Gaz great show always. Love Gadget but will have to wait to get an airrrrrrrr. Anyway for the interim I discovered Caustic which originally was for android ( you guys reviewed it on an android and thought it was ok) but try it on an ipad2 and it's #%^$&@ amazing seriously that guy who coded it is a genius. Please give it another go this time on NIck's Ipad 2 and you'll see what I mean. Oh and if you can review Impc pro that would be great. Thank's again for your great reviews. P.S if that guy doesn't claim his prize how's about you give it me and I will in exchange review apps in dinky Aussie way complete with corrugated iron yes I'm from down under ill even throw in a crocodile playing an Ipad. Saltwater that is.
Korg should scrap their Kronos team and make a workstation with one or more iPads at it's core. The iPad programmers are far superior because iOS is so much better than this 1995 Kronos OS crap.
I know this comment is 3 years late, but the jam at the end is one of the best things I've ever heard. I really need a longer version of that, please. Not likely, I know. I suppose I'll keep listening to the end of this video over and over. Absolutely beautiful.
"Northwest Repellent" must be the funkiest thing I´ve heard from you Gaz! :) Loving it!

You guys are fantastic at this, great info, great personality, great music.. 10/10
Would love to see more of those jams at the end of each episode! That synth on Alchemy has convinced me to get it!
.... the play out / jam out was BRILLIANT ;-)
Brilliant show as always and fantastic play-out jam!

Besides @musictrackjp you guys really are the best reviewers on YT no doubt.

Where did this show go?! - it's great! More!
Brilliant fascinating episode, as always.
I really like your style guys! :)
Cheers!
Nice... I've been toying with the idea of the iConnect MIDI gear.
... and I've already got the Korg Gadget! :D
I think I need one of those iConnect MIDI 4+. Thank you for the great ideas behind the product.
love this show. guys, longer fadeouts please when jamming!

Where was this week's Sonic Talk? A week without Dave Spiers is like a week with no sun. I had to watch last week's twice!
Seriously guys, you have to start giving us some stand-alone jam videos with the review gear. I know it seems overly indulgent but the taste at the end is just not enough. Great stuff!
Love your jams at the end of shows..any chance of an album release? :)

I have an audio interface (Scarlett 2i2) connect to my Mac. Is it possible to connect the 2i2 and the iconnectmidi?
Please tell me about that very cool looking keyboard to your left? It would be great if there was a 49 or 61 key version (maybe with Bluetooth!!!) great video and I'll be checking out your other videos for sure! Thanks
I'd pay to see both of you as an improv electronic duo. So what are you waiting for?
Actually I'm almost that you CAN select not to use the audio pass through on USB port by port basis. Have you looked at the music io app? It seems to do a lot of this for a lot cheaper

Love the show! Gaz, what's the red case you have on your ipad? Looks really cool.
just a cheap one off Ebay designed for children!
What is the audio sample and bit rate coming out of Korg to Ableton?
Hey! Why dont you do a review on the korg nano key studio that's designed to go with this software????
Sorry if already been asked, but what kind of case is the red ipad case?
Thanks,
J

I like this product so much I wish I could get it running. Thank you guys for being so helpful with my tickets. I just hope to get it all going soon!
Sorry to hear Robot. Glad you have a ticket open - the support team will take care of you there.
You CAN disable internal audio inside audio settings. I did it here on ICM+2. You only can't have both, internal and headphones at the same time.
Ah okay, where are the settings?

Navi Retlav Thanks! I have added that to the show notes on Sonicstate.com (and credited you)
Hi, what do you think is more useful, iconnect4 or the x air???
Can you use the Iconnectivity4 as the master clock to jam with 3 computer synced who send midi to a first computer via the protocol ?
not midi but audio* to the first computer ^^
Oh wow, bringing in samples from Dropbox. It might not be new to you guys, but I haven't seen it before. I have to admit that I caved on Gadget due to the upgrade.
Great show! Yes technology!
awesome! I just bought an ICM4+ for $199 in Aus. I guess now I need to get Korg gadget, coz that is killer (the ableton live connection)
I just got one as well but am having a hell of a time getting it up and running
hi will iconnectivity midi4 work in windows 7 - 8
comes with lightning connector now mine did, had to go purchase the 30 pin as I still using the ipad 2
please can anyone tell me if i can export the midi clips from korg gadget to ableton project instead of samples!??! for me this would make me walk to my apple store and buy an ipad right now!
Please please please let there be a midi clip export too!!!
I've tried to do it , but it just renders the midi into audio loops unfortunately.Maybe it will happen in a future update.
the conectability award goes to ...
:-P my iconnectmidi4+ came with a lightening connector :-) and the only thing I haven't plugged into/used yet is RTP
Have you seen the new Santasizer?
Introducing The Santasizer!
What about the latency?
Can anyone help me figure out how to get dropbox within Ableton? I'm working with Mac OSX and Live 8. I've installed dropbox on the laptop. You can add a folder to your ableton browser and navigate to your drop box folder on your machine, then there it is.
Nice jam!
love this show!
Nice job gents as usual
It would replace my IO Dock, if it had 1/4" audio outputs...
More jamming please!
Nick and Gaz great show always. Love Gadget but will have to wait to get an airrrrrrrr.
