    Good information. I run a stainless steel prop on my Mercury 25 2 stroke. I love the way it performs but I do fish an area with plenty of submerged obstacles. This past Monday I hit a submerged tree running 30 mph. The prop appeared to survive the strike, but the lower unit did not. It bent the prop shaft about 1" from center and there is probably other damage too. I love the cool factor of the stainless Ballistic prop hanging off the back, but I truly believe an aluminum prop would have saved me from all of the lower unit damage.

    Thank you for an interesting review. I am missing though something I have never seen answered in any forum or video on stainless vs aluminum prop comparison. That is, what would be an impact on the Outboard RPM, if all other things being equal (pitch, cup, rake, diameter, ect), and you only change the material of the prop from Aluminum to Stainless steel (or other way around)? Would Outboard RPMs increase or decrease? For how much approximately? Or would there be no RPM change and only top speed would change - increase? If so, why no change in RPM?

    90hp 4 stroke Yamaha… went from 13x19 Aluminum prop to 13.25x17 stainless steel prop. Gained 3mph top end (39mph to 42mph)… I did notice a higher RPM increase 6100…, but I don’t WOT anyways. The hole shot is ALOT better… I don’t need to trim down all way like I did with my aluminum prop, and Corning tight turns feel better.

    I have a Yamaha 4 stroke F90. I have an alum prop, but it does nit have a rubber insert. The lake I fish has tons of submerged stumps & it is a matter of time I hit one. Will an Alum prop with the rubber insert more likely to protect my lower unit from damage ? Thanks

      Aluminum with a rubber insert with for sure be better then stainless steel for protecting your lower unit..... one the rubber insert will take most of the abuse off your input shaft and bearing..and two..the Aluminum being a lighter and softer material then stainless steal with get beat up more flexing the blades a little bit or just flat rip a blade off giving u a little time to shut the motor down before chasing major damage to the lower unit

      did anything else change? was it a generic grey alum prop? did the pitch or diameter change at all?

      Alex Senst went from 13 pitch aluminium to 14 steel.

      @@madsderp3648 most if not all of your speed came from the pitch difference.

      @@madsderp3648 your OP suggests the increase in speed was due to the prop being steel, not the increase in pitch.

    I had a 18 foot ski boat with a 115 Merc. I could get roughly 38-39mph with 2 people and a cooler. I wasn't really happy about that so I bought a SS with the same 19" pitch and had better hole shot and could get 43-44 mph on it. So I'll say the aluminum one wasn't terrible and for many it would probably be fine as the main prop. I still have mine as a backup, but the video is wrong on it needs to be aluminum if it's under 125. My buddies pontoon with a 90hp Yamaha gets better hole shot and 2-3 mph better with SS as well

    stainless steel is cool until you have to rebuild the entire lower unit. Trust me the stainless steel prop will win every time

    What about Aluminium alloy props not pure Aluminium?

    Bs. Weight of prop plays no noticable difference

    • @johngiam
      @johngiam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I was wondering how there is stress. The weight of prop in water should be neutral.
      Only stress is rotational stress
