My Virgin Kitchen Home baking bake sale goods all day today, perhaps a Barrathon is in order.Good luck in the new flat. The kitchen looks quite nice and roomy. "Barry on Wayne." "Barry on Garth." 🤘🤘
Someone should really go show you guys How to eat the stuff you seem to dislike. Most of it cant really be eaten directly like you're doing, and has to be paired with other stuff for maximum enjoyment
As a Swedish person I have to tell you two things. 1: the daim-cake is not at all a cheese cake, it's an almondcake with butter-cream, this will be important if you try to make your own as you said you would. 2: the oatly (orange/mango) is in fact a vegan milk substitute. There also is a plain one (very tasty) but their best by far is the chocolate one.
That herring in a jar is one underappreciated dish. I'm happy at least Chloe is also a fan. The pear cider (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) is also pretty good. Those and the garlic crisps are my IKEA favourites!
Oh my God. The Swedes will not be happy. I'm Norwegian but if there is one thing I've learned from our dear neighbors, it is that you NEVER speak ill of Kalles Kaviar!
I totally agree ! wtf...I just wanted to punch his fn face in !! they could just have done a meatball taste test, and the way they tried that rye bread OMG !
Meatballs Party! Thanks for having the whole family in the new kitchen. My favorite part, 😂Amy hanging out under the chair just minding her own business! 😄🤗💚😉
I love the "princess cakes" that they sell... they are just marzipan with whipped cream and marmelade. And I thought Knäckebrot was known in all parts of Europe? At least in Germany and Austria we eat it a lot too
Fabienne knäckebröd originates from the Nordic countries (don’t know really which one of them) but yes you can find them in other European countries as well. I’m from Finland and I saw some Finnish knäckebröd brand in grocery store in Germany.
Because of my Scandinavian roots i enjoy most of these, try the kalles spread on toast with loads of butter and just a little of the paste it is nice but an acquired taste
don't know if Lidl in the UK has country/ region themed weeks also, but in the Netherlands they do and when they are featuring scandinavian produce, they have meatballs in the frozen food section in 1 kg bags and i think they are delicious, we also have a similar product to the herring, over here is is pickled in a vinigar based brine, also something most foreigners don't like, just like Barry's "favourite" black licorice.
John King there is no cheese in that "cheesecake" from ikea thou. It should be a nutty base and some vanilla cream/sauce, chocolate and Daim bar goodness.
Knackebrod (crisp bread) has a hole in the middle as it was stoles on a wooden pole high up in a role to keep dry to preserve for the winter. The history of knackebrod is pretty interesting. At least I think so.
Love the video.. Sad you didn't like our Kaviar.. I'd suggest trying it on a hardboiled egg though, makes it sooo much better! Also, it might just be me.. But I think your youngest daughter(Chloe?) said "Super Gott" which is Super Good in Swedish.. Which just made me curious where she picked it up? Doesn't really feel like something you'd typically pick up as a kid in Britain?
Actually the best thing to have on knäckebröd/crisp bread is some butter and cheese. You also break the bread into smaller pieces when you buy the big round cakes of it.
Me and Mrs. B I think you guys need to watch A Guy Called Ove, it's a Swedish book and movie both are amazing! But the movie is amazing!!! If y'all are on a Swedish kick I highly recommend it!
The Caviars you tried are similar to Marmite/Vegemite in that a little goes a long way. You maybe won't like it anyway, but the smoked roe one works best with hard cheese and butter on the rye bread.
Use Kalles Kaviar together with boiled eggs. Candy tip look for "Ahlgrens bilar" (Ahlgrens cars). The "Sill Dill" put a few on a sandwitch or eat it together with boiled potatoes and "Gräddfil" (sour cream) and mixed chive.
I grew up in Wisconsin which was home to a lot of Scandinavians and they would sell pickled herring by the lb in the deli. I remember it only vaguely and I remember loving it. But I don't think I'd like it if I tried it now
Hey, Barry! If you're interested there's this cake in Norway called a _Success Cake/Tart_ (also known as "Cake with yellow frosting") which has an almond base I think would work wonderfully with the Daim cake: All you need to do is make a sort of meringue from 8 egg whites whisked together with 300 grams of icing sugar, add 300 grams of finely chopped/blended almonds and bake it in a preheated oven at 175 ºC for about 35 minutes. If you're interested in the yellow frosting then that's 8 egg yolks, 2 dl double cream/heavy cream, 250 grams of sugar and one and a half teaspoons of vanilla sugar brought to a simmer on low heat then let cool in room temperature a bit before you mix in 300 grams of cubed tempered butter by hand (the cream should be cool enough that the butter doesn't melt). At this point you can either cut the cake in half and put half the frosting in the middle and the other on top, or just leave the cake in one piece and put all the frosting on top. Once the cake is frosted we like to use a fork to make lines in the frosting for decoration before cooling it in the fridge till serving. Really hope you make that Daim cake recipe, as I absolutely love the frozen one, and I've been wanting to try my hand at making a homemade one for quite some time now.
We normally eat Kalles with boiled eggs (either on their own, or on top of the rye bread). Rye bread + Swedish Prästost (a cheese you also find at IKEA) + cucumber is truly a treat. We eat the herring on all our big national holidays (Midsummer, Christmas, Easter), it should preferably be enjoyed with boiled potatoes (with melted butter on top), sour cream and chives. Love how you pronounce Pågen! (And by the way, us swedes never put icing on our cinnamon rolls - that's an American invention). Thanks for introducing some Swedish food to the world! :D
I went to ikea yesterday and came home with the frozen meal deal (pork & beef meatballs, mashed potatoes & cream sauce powder mix) and a jar of the Lingon berry jam... might have it for dinner :)
I always like the taste test videos :) I haven't been to Ikea for so long! We always buy a couple of the food products at the end of our shop, there's some interesting products! The blueberry-type juice looks particularly exciting, really want to try that one, and the jammie dodger type biscuits.
Ahh, you're doing the Kalles wrong! :D Try it (just a pea size bit) on a soft boiled egg, or on cooked cold potato. Try slicing the egg or the potato on a piece of buttered bread, and a little bit of Kalles on top. Some people put Kalles on sliced cheese sandwiches, but I think that's gross :) The pickled herring should be eaten with boiled potatoes, sour cream and chopped chives. And only eat the fish, the black bits are allspice peppercorns and are just there to spice the fish in the pickle juice. Some people have lingon sylt with their herring, but I think that's an aqquired taste ;) If you go some other time, try the gingerbread snaps, and put some blue cheese on top (for example Stilton)! Perfect Christmas finger food, to go with your Glögg, Swedish glüewein. And try pan frying the meatballs, they get a little crispier on the outside. Leftover meatballs from the fridge are awesome just sliced on a piece of buttered bread. You can also get "Rödbetssallad" at IKEA, which is a beet root sallad with mayo, which is awesome as a topping on your meatball sandwich. Enjoy!
I hope you took some of the commenters advice and tried the kaviar with eggs, it's like the best way to eat boiled eggs imo. You can also mash up an egg with some kaviar and mayo, to make a super simple (though slightly runny) egg salad to put on your toast, or dip it in, depending on how runny it ends up being.
I'd recommend trying the Apple Cider, that stuff is so nice. Also, I actually got a meatball with mash and gravy frozen thing along with a dime bar cheesecake from ikea the other day! Literally exactly the same as you'd get from the restaurant 8D
Loved this episode. I actually have the red pearls and the roe paste in my fridge. (its mushed Salmon eggs...fyi) Love your channel. From Nova Scotia, Canada
Chloe is such a star liking Dill Sill 😁 also when she had the Daim cake I first thought she said "supergott" which means super tasty and I was really impressed with her Swedish 😀 kaviar can go in very small blobs on hardboiled eggs, but small amounts does it.
Oh do you remember the gorgeous green marzipan cakes IKEA used to sell? We used to buy dozens. Can you do a recipe please? They were like rumballs with marzipan and chocolate.
Tesco sell those Gifflar now, I recently bought a bag and made the mistake of leaving the open bag in the kitchen, came down half an hour later to find my dad had eaten them all.
I´m not a big Kalles fan but you can have it with hard boiled eggs and then its rather nice. or mix it with mayo and the egyolk and sprits it in the hole in a half egg, and put a shrimp and a small twig of dill on top... nice on the xmas food table :)
You took a good selection of items from the Ikea food range to try, I thought it was a shame you didn`t try the meatballs in the sauce they serve it with in the restaurant which is also available in the Ikea food range. You need to go back & try some more as they have a wide range of foods, you`ve only sampled a fraction of whats available.
More taste tests can be found on this playlist (grab the popcorn & have a Barrathon) th-cam.com/video/ALlVuCYGvmY/w-d-xo.html
My Virgin Kitchen Home baking bake sale goods all day today, perhaps a Barrathon is in order.Good luck in the new flat. The kitchen looks quite nice and roomy.
"Barry on Wayne."
"Barry on Garth." 🤘🤘
My Virgin Kitchen Gifflar is one of the most awesome foods on the planet!!!
My Virgin Kitchen I'm pretty sure my first MVK video was a tea cake video
Someone should really go show you guys How to eat the stuff you seem to dislike. Most of it cant really be eaten directly like you're doing, and has to be paired with other stuff for maximum enjoyment
Be careful what you promote!!!!. "Barrathons" are still illegal in many countries in Asia, and many states in the Southern US.
Barry, the allen key is the trophy for completing the furniture
As a Swedish person I have to tell you two things.
1: the daim-cake is not at all a cheese cake, it's an almondcake with butter-cream, this will be important if you try to make your own as you said you would.
2: the oatly (orange/mango) is in fact a vegan milk substitute. There also is a plain one (very tasty) but their best by far is the chocolate one.
Also the Barista one is amazing for making frothy coffee!
And still (even if you're a Swede) I have to correct you Kyrastube.. It's not buttercream, it's an sweet eggcream :)
I remember when Ocado used to sell the daim bar cake because it is a gluten free cake and as I have coeliac it is something that I can have!
You eat knäckebröd with butter on it and the kaviar should be spread really thin haha
Isabell Gustafsson Blüme Or with cheese and jam!
Yeah and sometimes with hardboiled eggs.
infinate loop, it should allways be with hardboiled eggs. and some örtsallt! on polarbröd!
sebastianblevdet Polarbröd? Oh no, it should be Wasa Husman! 😊👍🏻
My go to is butter, very lightly salted cucumber slices and cheese, is great
That herring in a jar is one underappreciated dish. I'm happy at least Chloe is also a fan. The pear cider (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) is also pretty good. Those and the garlic crisps are my IKEA favourites!
Yes, the pear cider is nice.
That's true! We Swedes are born with Kalles Kaviar attached to the umbilical cord.
I'm Finnish and I think Kalles is trash
mirkkuffs it is sooo gooood with eggs
I’m Swedish and I hate kalles and sill. However it’s always fun to watch people try it
Amazes me why Alan never wants his Keys back 😆
The kid eating and loving the Sill is so me, I LOOOOVED it when I was little, still do, best thing!
Thumbs up for MVK making the Daim Bar Cake!
Having a Barrathon over here in the US dealing with some insomnia. Chloe’s facial expressions are giving me life. Your kids are so great.
Meatballs Party! Thanks for having the whole family in the new kitchen. My favorite part, 😂Amy hanging out under the chair just minding her own business! 😄🤗💚😉
So much fun to watch. I’ve missed these taste taste please have more of them
I love when the family joins in for your videos. Your girls are so cute and I love Mrs. Barry too, she has the best disposition!
Fabienne bröd, not brot
Stephanie Yung We have that in the US under the name Wasa. I love the stuff slathered in butter, and will eat way too many in a sitting.
Because of my Scandinavian roots i enjoy most of these, try the kalles spread on toast with loads of butter and just a little of the paste it is nice but an acquired taste
Spread butter on the crispbread and spread like half the amount you used next time xD
Or put a little bit of it on a boiled egg.
As soon as I watched that I got flashbacks to Americans trying Marmite
I'm glad your kids try everything - not just living on fish fingers and smily faces as other kids I know.
yes aromat seasoning is the bomb to have on you knäckemacka, I pretty much lived on that during my teen years.
you should have a compilation of chloe singing "my mind is telling me no..." that would be VERY FUNNY
Barry, about the Giflar, we have them in Denmark, and many people do heat them up and add frosting, and it's amazing!
I love pickled herring. In Denmark we eat it on ryebread with a curry mayo with eggs, onions and pickles in it. Many people eat it at Christmas.
Chloe was great with the herrings. Pickled herrings are absolutely gorgeous!
So lovely to see you and your family having such a great time together!!! Your kids are adorable!!
This is an adorable and fun video! It's so nice to see the whole family trying strange Swedish food.
don't know if Lidl in the UK has country/ region themed weeks also, but in the Netherlands they do and when they are featuring scandinavian produce, they have meatballs in the frozen food section in 1 kg bags and i think they are delicious, we also have a similar product to the herring, over here is is pickled in a vinigar based brine, also something most foreigners don't like, just like Barry's "favourite" black licorice.
I just love your family ❤ such a beautiful family.
I take my hat off to those little girls. I was IMPOSSIBLE to get to taste ANYTHING I didn't know at that age. Kudos, Mr and Mrs Barry :)
Chloe is comedy gold 😂 thank you all for making me smile today 💖
Diam bar cheesecake can be bought in Asda, Sainsbury's etc too
John King there is no cheese in that "cheesecake" from ikea thou. It should be a nutty base and some vanilla cream/sauce, chocolate and Daim bar goodness.
Cloe is cute when she started singing the arkelly song. And love all your videos keep up the fantastic job
Knackebrod (crisp bread) has a hole in the middle as it was stoles on a wooden pole high up in a role to keep dry to preserve for the winter. The history of knackebrod is pretty interesting. At least I think so.
Chloe is so funny to watch, she's a natural comedian without having to try 😂 kudos to her for trying the herring 💃🏻
T W She definitely said that ^^
if they've been to IKEA a lot recently, it's probably on a poster or part of a design.
The crisp bread reminds me of my grandfather he used to get those all the time ( he was Swedish) we called them Hardtack! ...
Your family is just as awesome as you are, man.
makes me happy to see the girls trying everything :)
Haha never mind selling them in other supermarkets. Sell them to Ashens so that he can actually have Meatballs in his Meatball Quicksters Wraps
That Chloe is a funny one! And so adventurous with the food. :) Super cute family. Looks like y'all had a good time.
I love that your kids are wiling to try new foods so many kids now never want to try food and just say its yucky and your kids are very smart
That almond cake is my FAVORITE!
Kalles with boiled sliced eggs on a toast!!! Nothing better ! 😍😍
Now I have to go to Ikea to buy food 😭
Yup the Daim cheesecake is the best I’ve had it before. The Swedish meatballs with the sauce are great.
Actually the best thing to have on knäckebröd/crisp bread is some butter and cheese. You also break the bread into smaller pieces when you buy the big round cakes of it.
I love your taste test's with your lovely family.
this whole video was hilarious your family is great Barry!!
one word to sum up you and your family "AMAZING"
It is OK to break the crispbread into smaller pieces, you know... Well, at least that is what we do up here, on the other side of the pond... ☺️
Me and Mrs. B I think you guys need to watch A Guy Called Ove, it's a Swedish book and movie both are amazing! But the movie is amazing!!! If y'all are on a Swedish kick I highly recommend it!
Is that really the English title? Because Ove is certainly not a guy. A man, at least.
Oat lyf is milk substitute I drink it cuz my crohns can’t drink milk but never seen that one before fellow British here
The Caviars you tried are similar to Marmite/Vegemite in that a little goes a long way.
You maybe won't like it anyway, but the smoked roe one works best with hard cheese and butter on the rye bread.
Kalles kaviar ❤ boiled eggs. Butterd toast optional. Or try mixing kaviar and chopped dill with whipped cream and pipe on egghalves. Yum.
We love the meatballs and veggie balls with the cream sauce in our family.
try the kalles with eggs and red onions and chopped dill that is the best
As a scandinavian, this video makes me very happy
I have tried the veggie meatballs, lingonberry jam and a limited edition orange version of the Daim cake and they were all very good.
BARRY!! You can those cinnamon rolls from Tesco in the bakery isle! They are to die for, I get a pack every week hahah, I’m addicted!
as a swede myself this was fun to watch. :) and yes the sill should be eaten out of the jar, with potatoes and boiled egg :)
I grew up in Wisconsin which was home to a lot of Scandinavians and they would sell pickled herring by the lb in the deli. I remember it only vaguely and I remember loving it. But I don't think I'd like it if I tried it now
Your family is awesome! More vids with the whole family, please!
i use bbq sauce if i am just nomming them alone. or put them with pasta. i love bbq meatballs.
Chloe is a WHOLE mood
Love IKEA!! Hubby works there and we love trying all the “interesting” food 😉 Great video! Thank you.
Your Family is delighted, Mr B. You did extremely amazingly well with Mrs B, she is exquisite.
use butter and cheese for the knäckebröd its great

Chloe gets a million points for trying the fish (and a bonus point for liking it!)
I work for iceland and we had the daim cheesecake a while back.
We normally eat Kalles with boiled eggs (either on their own, or on top of the rye bread). Rye bread + Swedish Prästost (a cheese you also find at IKEA) + cucumber is truly a treat. Enjoy!
the oatly milk you tried is a orange mango drink ... so not really a milk :) but they do have a milk alternative made with oats
Love the videos with the family.
The fish with boiled potatoes, yummy!
What a great family video, really would like to see you make the Dime bar cheesecake.
chole is so funny, I laugh so much. she is like you Barry. so funny and entertaining :)
If you are getting a lot of flat pack furniture then the best thing you can do is buy their drill kit. In the US it's $10 and it helps a lot!
Daemon Ember Yes! It cuts the time immensely!
But how are you going to set it up? It’s flat packed
The caviar thats called Kalles, is amazing! Goes well with boiled eggs or gouda cheese! ✔
The blueberry drink is great mixed with fizzy lemonade.
Mustard herring is my favorite!!
I'd recommend trying the Apple Cider, that stuff is so nice. Also, I actually got a meatball with mash and gravy frozen thing along with a dime bar cheesecake from ikea the other day! Literally exactly the same as you'd get from the restaurant 8D
LoVE Kalles spread. Been eating it for years 😋 and kids do usually love it. Spread it thinly and it is Fish Roe 😉
Ikea standard oatmilk (blue packaging) is the best fake milk I've found so far. Feels creamy like cows milk. Sooo good 😀
That Chloe is after your job! She would be an EPIC co-host!!
Kalles should be enjoyd on the rye bread you have (Cracked in smaller peaces) With butter , boild egg and kalles kaviar ontop =)
Hilarious to watch as a Scandinavian! The flatbread is very good with butter and then dip it in vegetable soups and beef stews :)
Please try making the dime bar (?) I don't know what it's called 😂 this is the first time I'm seeing it. The chocolate cake thing with layers
Loved this episode. I actually have the red pearls and the roe paste in my fridge. (its mushed Salmon eggs...fyi) Love your channel. From Nova Scotia, Canada
Chloe is such a star liking Dill Sill 😁 also when she had the Daim cake I first thought she said "supergott" which means super tasty and I was really impressed with her Swedish 😀 kaviar can go in very small blobs on hardboiled eggs, but small amounts does it.
the videos with the kids are the best their so funny when chloe tries head the tea cake haha
This was such an amusing video 😁 I could almost smell the fish cream 😷...your girls are so cute, as always.
Couldn’t believe how brave chloe was!
My Virgin Kitchen She's brave and funny! 😊
Lovely family. The little ones are growing up to fast. Its ok, mine are too. Enjoy the IKEA video.
Whats wrong with Kalles? That stuff is delicious!
It's the amount. You're not supposed to use that much or eat it by itself, cause it's too salty like that.
As a swede I can tell you that you are only partially right.
There is no right or wrong way to have kalles, only to have kalles.
It´s not THAT good..
I´m not a big Kalles fan but you can have it with hard boiled eggs and then its rather nice. or mix it with mayo and the egyolk and sprits it in the hole in a half egg, and put a shrimp and a small twig of dill on top... nice on the xmas food table :)
You can buy the Daim Bar cake in tesco
These family videos are great, I'm not sure how much you edit but they seem very natural! Keep up the good work, all of you!
It was an hour long so had to hack into it a fair bit mostly just chewing noises though haha
Your family is adorable, Mr. B.
