Gehrig would have added 900-1000....a long with another 200 hrs and 700 rbi. Gehrig would be in the top 4 in hr, top 6-7 in hits, and no. 1 rbi by more than 500 had he lived a normal life.
Ty Cobb was the greatest hitter of all time. Rose played in 527 more games over the same amount of seasons. I think if Ichiro had played his entire career here he also would've been ahead of Rose.
I can understand why Pete Rose is barred from the Hall of Fame but for goodness sake this dude has the most hits of all time and doesn’t look like anyone close to touching it! If the HOF is supposed to the tell the story of the best baseball players of all time then Rose regardless of what he did off the field has to be part of that story. What a shame.
COVID be damned. Without COVID heavily shortening the 2020 season, this list would've had a last-second change in the 2023 season as Miguel Cabrera would've easily got by Cal Ripken Jr. to crack the Top 15. As a diehard Tigers fan, this fact is just so incredibly frustrating to realize.
When Anson finally retired, he was about 800 Hits ahead of the next guy (who ALSO benefited from the Nat'l Association years). Not really sure I'd count that as a league, but I guess it is. Cobb did most of his damage on the list when no one else was moving up, only Speaker and Collins at the end. Same for Musial. Altuve and Freeman the next best bets to reach the 3,000 mark. But no one's even close at the moment. This will be the same list for a very long time.
I honestly don't see this list changing until the end of the decade at the earliest, and that is if Freeman and/or Altuve don't fall off a cliff. If neither of them don't crack it............ it's going to be a LONG wait.
Yeah Freeman is still 886 short of 3,000, and he'll be 34 next season. Plus there's an extra 243 Hits to get to Lajoie. But he's been getting at least 176 a season the last 5 years (minus 2020) and has 410 the last two. Altuve is about the same age, but still needs 953, and he hasn't had a 200-Hit season since 2017, and no higher total than 169 since. They'd have to obviously stay healthy and keep hitting the tar outta the ball. I seriously doubt either will get to Nap's total.
Today's baseball players don't care if they get a hit or a strikeout as long as the swing has the proper launch angle. Plus pitchers can't pitch past the 5th inning anymore
@@HufflepuffBaseball42313And Cap was a monster hitter with crazy longevity. Fewer plate appearances per season than modern modern schedules, yet his hit totals were insane. He was _not_ a compiler like some guys with long careers. Cap was a beast.
I don't think they should count National Association stats (1871-75). Without those numbers, Cap Anson would have still broke 3,000, but they pad his numbers. The NA wasn't real major league baseball.
Clemente storming up that list and then stopping on a dime at 3000 hits pretty hard.
Agreed. That sucks. :(
Remember watching his 3000th on TV, a double off Matlack. Never forget when he died.
Oof. Yeah.
Had he not been killed, probably could add perhaps 300 up to 400 hits to his tally. All depends on how long he would've played.
Gehrig would have added 900-1000....a long with another 200 hrs and 700 rbi. Gehrig would be in the top 4 in hr, top 6-7 in hits, and no. 1 rbi by more than 500 had he lived a normal life.
These videos are incredible!
Sucks how most of those players with 2800-2900 Hits never got to 3,000.
Pete Rose Rules
Could you imagine playing in the 1800s? They would smoke cigarettes in the dugout 🤣
There were still guys doing that in the 1980's. Maybe not right in the dugout but just inside the tunnel for sure.
they litterally chewed tobbaco on the plate back then 🤣
@@Pliquetw hardcore dudes back then

If you add Ichiro's Japan stats (if they are to be trusted) and his US stats, he breaks Roses hit record.
Pete Rose will be in the hall of fame after his death
That's wild to see Ty Cobb have the record from 1923 - 1985 and Pete Rose had the record from 1985 - present day.

Shoeless Joe should also be in, but he isn't. That's life.
Cap stayed relevant all this time
We obviously don't count his Nippon Pro League hits for good reason BUT, if we did, Ichiro would top the list at 4,367.
May as well count Rose's minor league hits then, and that puts him at 4,683.
I thought Ty Cobb had 4192
Crazy to not even see Tony Gwynn’s name at 3141. Molitor had him by a hit. Tony played 20 seasons & was the best imo
You think that's bad? Miguel Cabrera has about 25 hits on both of them and sits #16 all-time... yet this video only has the Top 15!
@@roygoodhand1301 I feel ya, that’s crazy too! I just associate hitting & consistency with TG 🤷🏻♂️ Had to check out why I didn’t see his name.
250 a year for Pete
250 what a year?
Cap Anson: the original Hit King.
Very underrated as a player.

I had no idea Derek Jeter is ranked 6 and Alex Rodriguez isn't even on this list🤣
I always thought Pete’s 4192 hit was the record breaker
It was at the time, but Cobb lost a couple of hits during deeper research into the stat since then.

Cap Anson did it during the dead ball era. GOAT.
Most of Cobb's career was in the Dead Ball era (1905-1920, retired in 1928)
Dead ball and slow pitching….
@@gregfine yup, only real fastball pitchers were Walter Johnson (could reach 91MPH sidearm) and maybe Smoky Joe Wood.
How come wade Boggs isn't on the list?
Math
Boggs is 31st all-time with 3,010 hits. Nowhere near the top.
After 2000 Albert Pujols still wasn't in the majors, but ends up 10th all time in Career Hits. Same for Ichiro, but his 3,089 doesn't make this list.

The HOF is an absolute joke without the all-time hits leader.

Shoutout to the goat himself, CAP
He was most certainly not a GOAT. He instituted the color line which helped keep black players out of MLB until 1947
He was a great player, but he was _terrible_ for the game.
Considering the seasons were shorter when he played, his lifetime hits total is insane. Cap knew how to hit!
