- As I make blocks out of the book, The Farmer's Wife: 1930s Sampler Quilt, by Laurie Aaron Hird, I will also be sharing images and letters from the women who wrote to The Farmer's Wife Magazine during the 1930s. In this series, you can watch these lovely blocks come together while immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of this special era, as letters of wisdom, hope, and inspiration are read.
This block, Mrs. Brown, is extra special and dedicated to my favorite teacher. In this video I share an essay I wrote about her in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.
Check out my playlist, The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt, for some history about the fabrics, my fabric choices, how to Foundation Paper Piece, and future videos like this one showcasing other blocks.
Thank you to The Farm Journal, who acquired The Farmer's Wife magazine in the late 1930s, for permission to use the letters and images from the magazines.

Beautiful block and a lovely essay about your teacher. What a lucky person you are to have had that special relationship in your life. 💕
Thanks, Cassie. Yes, I'm very fortunate to have known her. ❤️
Beautiful tribute! ❤❤
Thanks, Lisa. ❤️
Just lovely words about Mrs. Brown ❤
Just beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
What a wonderful tribute to your favorite teacher! And that block is beautiful. ❤
Thank you so much!
Tears in my eyes. Teaching is such a rewarding vocation, I wish you the best in your teaching journey.
Thanks, Kathi. ❤️
As I watch this video, I am cutting for a quilt for my niece’s son for his HS graduation. But I stopped, sat down and listened to you. I still have a lump in my throat; how lucky you both were to share so much of life’s journey together. What a beautiful tribute to Mrs Brown. Thank you for sharing her with us.
Thank you for the kind words. I definitely had to stop reading several times to compose myself. As I'm sure many who knew her do, I still feel her loss. She touched many lives. ❤️
I really enjoyed your videos!
That makes me happy to hear!
As a retired 5th grade teacher, I appreciated your beautiful words to your former teacher and mentor.
That means a lot to hear. ❤️
Hello from Ms. A in Texas. I found your channel through Brenda at Mount scrapmore she gave a shout out to you and I'm happy I found your channel have a blessed day and I'll be following you thank you
That was kind of her, and I'm happy you checked out my channel! :)
What an awesome tribute! Are there just 4 videos? Are you still teaching?
Hey, there! So far there are only the four videos (thanks for checking!), but I plan to make more. I just started my 19th year as a classroom teacher last week! The beginning of the school year is always so hectic, both as a teacher and parent, but I'll be making more videos soon. :)
