Climbing Half Dome AND El Cap in 24 hours! - Yosemite Double
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 18 ต.ค. 2024
- First dreamed up by John Bachar and Peter Croft, the Yosemite Double entails climbing the two proudest formations in Yosemite in under 24 hours. While we certainly have the gumption, do Benj and I have the stamina to keep going when it becomes night again after 20 hours on the move?
Tune in to find out!

Hands down the best clip I’ve seen in good stretch.
At least in this genre.
Wire to wire.
No fluff.
Sat here on my couch on the late night sipping a touch of Bourbon after a beat down bar shift.
Just what the doctor ordered.
You guys are horses.
Hats off.
Hell yeah DKA! Really appreciate it man! Keep the good vibes going!
Congratulations! What an epic feat of skill, endurance and teamwork. Was fun to join you on this journey. Keep kicking butt!!
Cheers JREV! Thanks for joining us!
use the #3 as the jam on the stovelegs makes all the difference. Miles of perfect hands.Tnx for sharing the whole enchilada. It's been years since I've put 24 hours straight into climbing, but I will never forget the exhaustion that comes with it. I fell asleep in the talus at the bottom of el cap. Couldn't even roll under a bush.
Awesome video as usual, Brent. NiAD alone is an achievement that most climbers can only dream about. I'm excited to see your Yosemite Triple video in the near future.
Haha cheers Jack! Well keep that one under wraps for now ;)
so dope, idk how u have the energy for a full 24hrs of sustained climbing. Catching that base jumper on cam was pretty sick with the sunset background.
Lots of training over long days and enough will power to kill. Hell yeah, the base jumper certainly helped!
I still got some bad ass granite counter tops for your van if you want them. But you are a legend. I can't even imagine the amount of endurance and fortitude this takes.
This is actually nuts. Congrats on this major accomplishment dude
Oh man that hike down in the dark after 24hrs of climbing must have been horrendous. Amazing effort guys, congrats 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Haha exactly! It was absolutely horrible. Can't recommend any less!
Awesome job! Following in the footsteps of Bachar and Croft is monumental.
Epic video man and congratulations. What settings were you using to record with the gopro? Wide 4k 30fps? Looks great even in the night shots. When did you do this?
I am really envious, very well done!
My friend Dag & I did the last part in July 1981, it was a very hot summer so any El Cap route was out of the question but we were very happy with a 6:15 time on Half Dome since that meant we made it all the way to Thank God Ledge before the sun hit the wall. Doing the same after first doing NIAD wasn't even science fiction back then!
Our longest rope was 50m so we had to use most of the original belay points, while there we would switch over without stopping, just handing over the backpack to the new belayer.
We saved some time by simul-climbing the Robbins Traverse, otherwise it was just "french free", pulling on any fixed gear we passed on the hardest parts.
Back then the big bolt ladder after the traverse had no hangers, so we had to tie them off with short runners.
The best part was when we hit the zig zags and overtook the 3-man team who had bivied on the ledge, they very nicely let us pass!
Really well done Terje!! Keep crushing it
@@GravityLabzThanks for the encouragement: I am still climbing in my local gym (the new one in Oslo that Magnus Midtbø recently featured) twice per week, but at 66 years old this is just to reduce the rate at which I'm getting weaker.
Fantastic. That first section in the dark with the pin scars really brought back some memories. That slippery yet sharp rock, the adrenaline of knowing what's ahead for the day. The sunrise. I can smell the granite (and stinky ledges. ha.) I miss those days. I did NIAD in 1997 and linked up Cherbert-Astroman-Rostrum with Jake W. in 2004. Some of the best days of my life. Congrats on a great send.
This is incredible. I don’t think I would be able to accomplish such an adventure. Moreover I don’t have money for all the climbing gear. So I’m pretty thankful to experience this 2 giants through a video. Love from Italy
Brutal, yet absolutely awesome! You two are some legends. Well done! Nice video as well!
I'm so stoked on watching these videos... thank you for posting!
I know it's kinda counter to all TH-cam algorithms, but I'd love to watch one GoPro video of the whole climb, pitch by pitch.
Glad you enjoy it!
OMFG!!!! you guys did it!!!! what a great performance. and video!!!! huge compliments to you
How is this even possible? Fascinating. Great mental and physical strength ❤
Some of the best content ive seen in a long time here on YT. Stay safe out there guys!
thats gotta be so amazing.. climbing at night then the sun comes up and u see how far you've actually climbed.. thats so amazing.
yes super satisfying! Feels like moving slow until you top it out and see everything down below you!
So sick. Wish I had a mentor to get me down there and introduce that level of climbing. So happy for you both
No doubt. I didn't have one either, but there are plenty of easy routes to get started on!
Go do a bunch of pitches if east aid to get used to gear placement. Once you trust your placements, then free climb it!
@@GravityLabz Could you recommend a few easier ones you enjoyed learning on?
Even though you have experience you can still ‘fall off and die’ mistakes happen.
That was amazing! Your best video yet and one of my favs ever! Loved the scenery and challenges!
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Epic. Balls and brawn little brother. So proud of you.
thats a pretty righteous send. Nice job
Wow! The start of Half Done was spectacular looking. I can’t believe you guys did the hike down that night too. Solid double fellas! Cheers X 2!
That is a friggin feat, good job boys!
such a cool video. What an adventure. Bet that food and bed felt amazing at the end
You guys are good, and importantly fun!
That party of 4 was hangin'. 😂
WTF though
Awesome achievement guys, well done, glad you made it safely,
Cheers, Thanks Marcus!
Hell yeah! I was in that party of 4 on Dolt Tower!
Oh hell yeah! Party on!!
Epic! great adventure and I appreciate the information and backstory.💪
Hell Yeah, Psyched you enjoyed it Andrew!
if ya ain't bleeding, ya ain't trying!! mega effort dude
HAHA nobody understands that statement more than you and I!
Hell yeah man! Solid work!
WOW! What an epic climb! Loved it
Merci Beaucoup!
2:20 That's a pretty crazy rock climbing frog. 😅😂
You make it look so easy
We'll be in Yosemite in September, how many people would you expect on popular routes on El Cap and Half Dome? Is it worth climbing shorter/less famous routes to avoid crowds?
September will probably be pretty wide open, since it will be hot in the valley. Make sure to look at the weather and consider spending some time in tuolomne. El cap faces almost perfectly south.
that little ice cave was sweeet 🍙
Lost two litres of sweat from my palms but damn that was an amazing video! Keep up the up!
Dude, that was awesome!
Worthy👍👍👍
Cheers Will!
WE ARE FEELING GOOD, WE ARE FEELING FAST, WE ARE FEELING STRONG
positive affirms all day playa
excellent video! what an adventure!
Great video, great climbing. Is this really filmed in August? So much snow left over
Truely Amazing👏👍
Thanks Dr x!
I don’t think I’ll ever climb in the dark…
It can be fun for sure, but you have to really want to do it! Otherwise it is just spooky
@@GravityLabz I don’t know how you do it man I’ve tried all I can do is climb up this really high tree at my house it’s like 35ft or something like that
I appreciated hearing orange juice by OF @ 7:00
This is probably a dumb question, but I thought the big routes on el cap were all bolted in, why were they placing gear if that's the case? They may have answered my question later in the video talking about the bolted traverse, so they place gear when going off route?
thx kindly for sharing this.
On ya dudes! 😮
Cheers Bill
!
@@GravityLabz Bobby, I enjoy your videos from faraway Australia- your van electrical fit out, Yosemite climbing, Red Rocks, Verdon & east side snowstorm. All good stuff. You have picked up the mantle and you are a bit of a modern day “stonemaster”.
literal life goals
awesome well done.
you guys killed it, insanely hard
Cheers Cory! appreciate it!
Recommendations for aid ladder alternatives? Looks like you were using a sling or 2 only. What do you like to do instead of ladders for fast ascents like this?
curious your thoughts on the base jumper, would you do something like that?
I think I am good on it just cause of the overall danger and the number of things out of your control. At least on rock you get to make decisions and adapt.
@@GravityLabz that makes sense. I think us normies would see climbing as equally dangerous, but we cant comprehend what it's like to climb things like this.
Also after doing the half-dome hike , when being able to get down to the valley floor in a few minutes seems very appealing
Couldn’t be more proud of you 😘
merci beaucoup!
I wanna do this so bad! Very entertaining to watch this whole vlog. How do you know youre ready to scale something like these two walls? Aside from having the right gear obviously. Im highly interested in getting into doing this. I love climbing. Anyway good stuff on here yall did the damn thang congrats!
take me with you!
It's unreal. I can't believe people do this.
Alex Honnald should have written "I was ere" on the ledge.
u need to come to cochamo in chile, is very similar to that place!
Beast mode!
cheers buddy!
There is a new bolted travers on halfdome? So you dont need to throw this knot rope anymore?😅
HAHA correct. Just clip 4 bolts now
im not a rock climber but it's crazy to see all the blood on the walls.
i know that sleep felt super
Fkn proud!! 🤘
Yeeee buddy!
Just by watching, my adrenaline was pumping…
Why are you wearing bells? is it because you're scared of bears?
Exactly. Gotta stay bear aware
What cord did you use to replace the stock cord on the petzl adjusts??
Epic
did I hear Lemonade by Gucci Mane midways thru this climb
How can I possibly be the first one to comment on “frog touches are aid”??
What happened to Mr. Frog Man?
Rope toss is bolted?
mega bro :o
yeah buddy!
No thx I choose life
Super gay
Video was awesome. The "Humor" not so much
