Gangai Amaran is all rounder and very humble guy. His lyrics "Aan enna Penn enna", and as music director "vazve mayam " is evergreen, as a movie director " Kozhi Kuvuthu".
Maestro ILAYARAJA is also MULTI-talented: composer GENIUS (1000+ movies), lyricist (300+ songs), singer (300+ songs), instrumentalist, arranger, conductor, VENBA writer (who taught VAALI), small-time producer; he also was supposed to be the director of Raajadhi Raaja movie. But, I have NEVER seen flattery-loving people praise IR as "multi-talented"!

Gangai Amaran (as he confessed here) had most of Ilayaraja's TUNES! He is so "gutsy" that he "uses" his own brother's tune (the WHOLE SONG) for Oru Kaadhal Enbadhu song in Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi movie did NOT CREDIT IR in the movie, but came up on Jaya TV, and after a contestant sang the song, he after 15 years said this was ILAYARAJA's SONG which he simply used in the movie!
mentalman2320, Can you mention at least 50+ songs in his music? There were 30+ music directors in the 1980s; Gangai Amaran is just ONE of them. They were all easily overshadowed by ILAYARAJA'S MUSIC. That is sheer GENIUS of monstrous proportions. Moreover, it is under Ilayaraja that Gangai Amaran wrote most of his songs! If you lack focus, that is what is bound to happen! WHY blame fate and all that?!

If IR had any such mean intention, then HOW did Gangai Amaran write 300+ songs for Ilayaraja? Isn't Ilayaraja's MUSIC the foundation/pillar for Karagaattakkaaran, Kozhi Koovudhu etc.? 30+ music directors existed in the late 70s and 80s, and Gangai Amaran is just one amongst them, but they all could not thrive because IR music OVERSHADOWED all those 30+ EASILY; the monstrous power of IR music. If you lack focus, you can only become a jack-of-all and master-of-none. Besides, nobody can hide the sun if you are one, and you have to whine like this about THE SUN if you are just a solar-powered flashlight!

There are SEVERAL post-millennium songs (and BG scores) of IR that NEVER got the limelight; yet they are soulful and timeless. That is what music is/should be!

அவர் தவறாக பேசியதில்லை ஆனால் தவறாக நடந்து கொள்கிறார். அண்மையில் ஒரு இசை கச்சேரியில் ஒரு சகோதரர் தண்ணீர் கொடுப்பதற்காக மேடை ஏறி வந்த போது அவரை என்ன கிழி கிழித்தார் என்பது எல்லோருக்கும் நன்கு தெரியும். அது மாத்திரமல்ல ஒருவருக்கு வயதாகும்போது அனுபவங்களும் சகிப்புத்தன்மையும் அதிகரிக்கும் என்பார்கள் ஆனால் இவருக்கோ! தன்னைத் தவிர வேறு யாருக்கும் எதுவும் தெரியாது என்பதுதான் ராஜாவின் நிலைப்பாடு. அதனால்தான் ஓர் ஊடகவியலாளரிடம் உனக்கு மூளை இருக்கிறதா என்று கேட்டார், ஆனால் ராஜா ஓர் சிறந்த இசையமைப்பாளர். அவர் இசையமைத்த பாடல்கள் எனக்கும் பிடிக்கும்.
