Two awesome catches. That was a beautiful gar, and that turtle was a beast! Thank you for being as careful as you are when you handle these critters. It shows a level of caring and respect the world needs much more of.
Careful? You mean the part where they impale sentient beings in the mouth and suffocate them by dragging them from the water and then chopping them up?
Respect? You mean the part where they impale sentient bro gs in the mouth and suffocate them by dragging them from the water and then chopping them up?
Glad to hear you mention that a snapper’s tail ought not be pulled or the turtle lifted by the tail. Seems some enthusiasts (recorded on videos) not knowing better do use the tail to heft or move the animals, possibly injuring their spinal columns. As always, thanks for your films and today every snapper in the country thanks you too.
@@TyPigPatrol ... great episode, as always! Ty, how bout a 5 min short on a reminder to all of us how to treat & handle our majestic giant American turtles?! Thanks again....
Those Giant Turtles need protecting - and because you handled it so carefully and released it back into its home waters, I have the deepest respect for you and your channel.
Lindsey very well said I grew up catching snapping turtles and the belief was either eat them or kill them when I use them for food I had no shame. But just to kill them was stupid and I didn’t do that but as I got older and found out the larger turtles are very old I’ve even read articles where Someone harvested a turtle that had a Civil War musket ball in it. But very well said God bless you and your family hope everything is well!
I've helped snapping turtles get across busy roads. I took a good sized one, that had been hit by a car, on my lap 30 miles to a naturalist vet. It struggled all the way, leaving me exhausted. I was always afraid of them, though. I think that your calm and comfortable way with that turtle hopefully gave me a whole new outlook on not having to be afraid of them if they need help. Wise about them, but not afraid. Thank you!
Once again , really nice work guys...you keep it clean while being entertaining and you always show respect for the creatures and creation...blessings on all your future endeavors !!
I did the same thing in a creek near my house, i thought i was pulling up a log or some drift wood, then this dragon comes up, looks me in the eyes, swims away, and breaks the line. I never saw it again, but it was one of my favourite fishing experiences
Glad to see you handled that snapping turtle correctly. Holding by top of shell at tail and head end prevents a head to sides snapping accidents. Safety first and foremost.
Awesome man, thanks. The bend on that rod with the Gar was insane; I honestly thought your friend was going in! 😆 Aligator Snapping Turtles are mad, ugly brutes, but they still have a certain beauty about them, well done!
I'll agree with the "mad" (or angry) and brutish commentary. But I don't thing I've ever seen a turtle I didn't think was cute-as-heck!!! Even the snappers!!!! LOL!!!!
Hi Ty, Seems like every pond I’ve fished had snapping turtles. No alligator, but 1 day I’m getting ready to leave for work and this huge snapping turtle laying in the sun would not let me get in my car. I had a 2 door sports car and it was a standard so I couldn’t get in from the passenger door. I took pictures and showed my boss cause he thought it was a dog ate my homework story!! That’s no dog but they bite! lol Dave
Nice handling of the non-targeted species. Informative as well. I've never seen a snapping turtle IRL (not from around those parts of the world woods) so to 'meet' a senior even via video is a treat. Amazing creatures. . . and Gar are always a very formidable fish to 'hunt'. I'd love to have a try one day but I think I'd be petrified as soon as I saw the mouth. We don't have anything that can harm you really until you jump in the ocean...then you are on your own (or not as the case almost certainly is)
I had a hard latch on to my line once. When I was pulling it up it was like trying to pull up a submerged waterlogged tree trunk. Once the gar was near the water's surface he just spit the hook out.
It so dope you get to get your buddies on fish like that! I’d kill to catch fish like that. Someday hopefully. The respect you show all the creatures you catch is awesome🔥appreciate you, bro
Wow. Always fun getting a turtle (in my opinion) but I’ve never caught anything bigger than a dinner plate. Dangerous indeed! Glad you got it taken care of safely.
Where were y’all fishing ? Appreciate the way y’all were so considerate towards the gar, and the environment. I’m not a “hug-a- tree” fellow, but we have to make sure we leave Mother Nature in a good condition. Stay safe out there guys, thank you for the great video.
I do not respect most of the "fishermen" I see nowadays. But you are so much like the men in my family when I was young and we caught a good part of our food from the bay. Real men, so respectful of defenseless life that you do not need for food and how carefully you return them to their territory is a wonderful thing to see. Preserving the health of our waters by caring about the wildlife that keeps those waters clean and balanced is so needed now. I am so happy to see your vid hoping many will learn to have pride in being a true fishermen, responsible and respectful of our waters and the life within. You are the best.
Your friend just about invented a whole new sport of alligator gar skiing....could be in the next Olympics!!! Nice gar. I love seeing alligator gar fight. They ate still one of my bucket list fish Those turtles are so cool to look at, but are really dangerous if you get too close

When I was a little girl, visiting my grandparents in Dalton, Georgia, on the dirt road coming from their house (no electricity or running water) my dad slowed down because right there on the road was a snapping turtle as big as a manhole cover. Even though it was on the road and we were in a car, I was scared witless. We looked at it and it looked at us. Wow! When we drove off I was still scared. I'm 73 so it was a long time ago but is still a vivid memory.
These turtles are always amazing to see. Even more amazing are the largest ancient turtles that existed up to a 100 million years ago, the Archelon turtle which was up to 13 feet (4 meters) long and weighed 1.25 tons in weight. Imagine latching on to one of these behemoths! 😁👍✌en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archelon
