Do THIS If Your Chicken Is Sick - 4 Steps to Save Your Chicken’s Life

  • How to care for a sick chicken to help increase their rate of recovery. Take these 4 easy steps to help your sick chicken get better as quickly as possible so they can recover from their illness. Your chicken first needs to be moved inside into a hospital pen to relieve stress from pecking order and temperature swings. They need to be in a temperature controlled environment so they can focus all their energy on getting better. Sick chickens can be easily bullied so they need to be isolated. Add electrolytes and vitamins to their water. Make sure they are eating and drinking, syringe water orally if needed and give them anything they'll eat like scrambled egg or watermelon if no appetite. You can also mix raw egg yolk with water in an oral syringe to give them, if they will not accept food. We go over how to safely orally syringe liquid to your chicken, as you must go slow and be very careful as chickens aspirate easily. If you keep them alive long enough to get over what's ailing them, they should survive and make a full recovery. #chickens #sickchicken #backyardchickens

      Thank you he’s such a good boy and we love him a lot. For such a little old man he’s honestly the best rooster we have LOL. He does all the rooster jobs while the young boys goof off all day. He’s saved many hens from hawks and always tells the ladies when he finds a treats. Our other roosters would just gobble them up 😂

      Glad to be of any help. ❤️ It’s unfortunately that time of year when the weather changes it causes stress that can lower their immune system. Chickens do not like to look weak being a prey animal, and try to hide their illnesses. The flock can bully her because they don’t like to see weakness, it makes the vulnerable as a flock so they can be mean to her and bully her so she’s trying to do her best to stay safe

    My oldest roo lived for 8 years, but the real record holder for me was a mixed barred hen. I was a youngster when a friend of my father gifted her to me. He said she’s the oldest hen they had for 5 years and thought she won’t live any longer. Being a child I lost interest in poultry for a few years and didn’t appreciate her. So I gave her away to my grandfathers farm. Two times in my grandads farm they had a blizzard which killed off all his chicken except for my old hen and most of her descendants. She lived till the age of 20 and even after that we never really knew what happened to her. A predator or escape or starvation or perhaps thieves. What basically happened was that grandpa got sick and could no longer visit the farm for a year. Then he passed away afterwards I was always distracted with my final years of highschool. And the farm is very far away from the city I lived in. My dad was busy with work, my older brother was distracted with college and my young uncles were devastated so the farm was abandoned for a whole year or at least over 8 months after grandad passed away.

    My husband figured out the trip of using old pillow cases, cause you can slip it over the cage liner. Because we use a dog crate so it doesn’t have the wire to keep them from moving around the lining. Thank you for the tips! I have one of our favorite chickens is sick now.

    THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH for sharing this video!! My 2 rescue chickens I've had for 5 years ended up getting fowl pox and I've been trying EVERYTHING to keep them healthy as possible during this horrible time for them. Even took them to the vet, but sadly I still lost my MJ a couple days ago. Broke my heart!!! Came across your video as I want to make sure I don't lose my other girl Cluckie b/c I/m not sure she's drinking as much water as she needs to stay hydrated. All the other videos weren't working for me with having to carefully drop water in her mouth b/c I would be in contact with her sores on her face and they obviously hurt her. I wouldn't want someone grabbing my face with open sores on it! Your method was a COMPLETE LIFESAVER with making sure that I keep her hydrated with electrolytes. I really hope she pulls though. I know she has a better chance now thanks to you!

    Hello, my daughter has this chicken that I have been caring for (she bought them the same time I bought my chickens, but isn't allowed to her at her home). She was getting picked on by my RIR. So I removed her from the coop, She has been separated and better. In an extra large kennel. She seems to be getting better. Been over a month in this kennel. I have been giving her vitamins and blueberries, etc. Vetrx treatments But still in the main area of the outdoor coop. So she won't get lonely. Yesterday I took her outside with all the chickens. Which I have been doing for a couple days a week. The RIR kinda go after her but I stop them. She was fine. But today she is weak and leaning on one side. Again she has always been super small.
    Side note before I removed her, her feet were always shaking. She would also shake her head quite a bit. I have checked her for mites and thght that maybe she had bumble foot. Treated her for that. She had a small spot/sore on one foot. That got better.
    Again was doing so much better. But now today she is really bad.
    For the past month poultry cell, Vetrx treatments, bumble foot treatment, apple cider vinegar in water, and vitamins added to water( which I rotate out). No lice or mites, Extra vitamins. We have been bringing her into the house to walk around. Reached out to chicken forums. With no help.
    She had trauma from our dog when she was around 4 months. Everyone bounced back from that. She has been on the smaller side. Also the trauma of the RIR which I removed her.
    If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.
    I have also given her eggs
    We believe she is an Egyptian fayoumi. Super small

    Please, may I have your input on this chicken issue? I'm looking at probably having to move one of my sweet Polish hens (a buff laced) into a 'house chicken' with closely supervised or separated outdoor run time due to her having recently developed a vent prolapse. (I am treating the prolapse with sitz baths, etc, and also consulted a vet who said the prolapse is minor and my bird is extremely healthy otherwise.) She just turned 1 year old and weighs about 3 pounds. I am keeping her isolated from the mini-flock I have so they don't peck her.
    Do you have suggestions for how to keep her with a good quality of life, not being able to directly interact with her flock-mates (because we know what chickens can do to a flockmate with an oddity)? I have a couple ideas brewing, but would appreciate your input. I have small dogs and cats in my house, the chicks were raised next to them, so none of them freak out about each other. My mini-flock is a backyard flock in the suburbs.

      So sorry to hear your girl is not well, it’s hard to know as symptoms like that can present from a number of things. The best thing to do may be taking her to a vet, if that’s not an option I would look I to sour crop or worms. Does she have bad breath? Sour crop is a yeast infection in the crop and the bacteria can consume their food and leave them malnourished. Worms can also do this. You can use a broad spectrum wormer but this best method would be to take a stool sample to a vet and get it tested to see what kind of worms she has. Hope she gets better soon

      I put my bird in a bathroom with a space heater set to 82f and mixed 3ml apple cider vinegar per litre of water with tiny pinch of salt and 1/2 tsp sugar for her water. I then cooked up oats and scrambled eggs for her food.
      Two days later she's back with the flock. The vet couldn't determine what illness she had.

    My chicken is suffering from a sour crop and won't eat at all even if he eats something he will throw it up. What should I do? I tried to empty the crop and giving him some eggs but that didn't seem to help. He's sleeping all the time? What should I do? Please help me

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that, are you sure it’s sour crop? Is the crop full or empty? If full it may be impacted, if empty it could be sour if there is an odor. At the end of the day a chickens crop should be full and in the morning before they eat it should be empty if functioning normally. There are some good videos on TH-cam about sour crop but the basic concept is sour crop is a yeast infection and you have to starve the bacteria out or the bacteria consumes all the chickens food and can slowly starve them. You need to not feed her, then slowly introduce liquid foods. Foods low in sugar. Until the bacterias numbers are very low and the sour crop is gone. I recommend doing more research and finding the treatment method that works best for you

      He unfortunately passed last month 😔 it was very sad. He seemed to get better but then suddenly came down sick again and couldn’t pull through this time. I guess it was his time, we miss him dearly he was such a good boy and very loved. He lived here forever so we made sure he will be here forever. We gave him a proper burial with flowers from the garden and his favorite treats. Rip Rufio ❤️ the best boy ever. Can still hear his tidbitting and crow. I just lost my son (my dog a 12 year old miniature schnauzer Sarge) so it just seems like one bad blow after the next. Life can be hard sometimes

    I gave my poor sick chicken water by syringe and she aspirated, is there anything I can do? I was so careful to give a little bit and let her swallow but now she's gargling when she breaths, I feel awful. There's no vets that see turkeys near me

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw sorry to hear, she should be better in a couple days. Try not too worry too much. Next time just try to put a small drop at the corner of her beak where it meets her head and it should naturally pool in and then wait to see her swallow

    • @dolcepescas6153
      @dolcepescas6153 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BockBockBouquet I did that, and the next time I was so careful, and she did swallow, but the gargling sound has gotten worse... with every breath there is so much loud garggling... she gaping with open mouth for every breath... am I drowning her? Thank you so much for your response, I am literally contemplating if I should put her down today... But I don't want to off her if there's a chance... Do you still think she can possibly get better, with that added information? I should add, she got nearly pecked to death by other chickens, her entire head was swollen bloody, and her eyes are sealed shut now... it's all scabbing over..I put antibiotic ointment on it. It's a very dreadful sight. I feel terrible, letting her suffer, yet I don't want to cut her life short.

    I thought maybe she was eggbound. She wasn't but she made it thru the night. That night. I'm new,I know nothing, it's been 6 days since I misdiagnosed 😮, she's still not moving much. We found an abandoned house with about 50+ chickens, so my Son caught a couple
    Hence not knowing how old she is. She just seems ,,,,lul. Anyone maybe know?😢

      There’s a wire cage above it so he can’t access it. It’s in the lower pan. Just to absorb odor and moisture from fallen droppings
