    (Read to the end) I've had one for years, we would use it once a year in the Adirondack Mountains, never had any problems. This year, I decided to take it on a second hunting trip and it down poured rain. The floor had puddles all over. After watching this review, I realized that the problem was with me. I put the floor in wrong and the water just ran in the door opening, because I didn't have the corners setup right. Thank you for this video!

      I went up to camp for Memorial Day weekend and survived quite the storm in this, that trip I knew we were going to have serious rain so I put an extra rain fly tarp over it. I do suggest spraying it with a coat of waterproofer and anti mildew anti fungal. And I suggest if you are going to be in real storm conditions to put a tarp rain fly over it. But I have been through rain and snow and ice without the rain fly and it held up fine with no leaks. I just got my wood stove this week so my next uplaod will be when we go up for New Year's weekend and I am so excited to have the stove to stay warm. Enjoy and stay safe! Thanks for watching!

    a 4000.00 canvas tent doesnt even come with a floor !!!!........ the Ozark trail wall tent give you the biggest bang for the buck and is only as good as someone who takes care of a tents needs instead of "Expecting" the tent to care for itself !!!!......set it up Right..... Keep the roof clear of snow or rain pockets and keep the fabric treated with a good repellent ......you can get your money and then some out of it !!!!..... Ive had mine for 5 yrs.....used it 2 weeks at a time in the snow during hunting season........ it is set up for 2 months during the summer each year at the lake....still works like new..... No Problems !!! People will always complain but they also wont put the work in either !!

    I’ve love my “happy place” tent. I put it up in August in my backyard so I could rent an additional room in my house. I moved it to a friend’s back yard in February and it’s still great. I put the floor on plastic pallets which allows for airflow underneath and protection from the rain. Great value for $400!❤
    I threw a heavy tarp over it to make snow removal easy and protect from hail. When I replace this I may get the bigger 12x20’ next time.

    This and ur last review did it for me. I’m going to get one of these. I want a wall tent because of the amount of room it gives and you’ve talked about the material and after reading the comment section of others who’ve owned these I am confident in the material.
    I am guessing the material is probably a little lighter than canvas which would be great for transporting it. I’ll probably order it in a months time. I am really excited. It gives me something to look forward to.

      Thanks for watching! It has worked really well for me. The best way I can describe the material is if you have a pair of 5.11 or columbia pants, it's like material. The whole package is still 90 pounds, but the bag has wheels so you can drag it and it has handles on both sides so two people can carry it. good luck!

    I had no idea that flap was called "sod cloth" but it makes complete sense. Since my tent was setup on a floor built from pallets and plywood it was easy to just pin down that flap (sod cloth) with 2X4s and screw them to the deck. We had it set up at our off grid land for 9 months and never had any serious issues with critters and the floor never got wet except for what we tracked in. Now, my biggest complaint is the lack of reinforcement at the roof corners where they come over the pipe frame. I had to make my own reinforcements.

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no idea when I bought it! Saw it on another video from a different tent and then I saw it again on someone's blog. There are a few different ways you can put it down, if your deck is built the exact size of the tent then you put it down the side of the deck, or you can do it the way you and I did it, or as someone below said you can put it inside and then put the floor over the top which is how I am going to try it next time I go up. I've been ok with the tent corners over the poles but as many in here have said it's the poles themselves that are the weak point, two of my corner brackets are a little bent and the corner pole kind of angles in and it is really annoying trying to put things like my cot or a storage containers into the corner. But, overall for $400 (on sale for $250 right now) this tent is still a deal.

    I don't get the concern either removeable floors are the norm with most hot tents...just imagine how you would set up the tent frame with a sewn in floor? My 4 man was the same way with people complaining about the removeable floor. I removed mine and never used it at all. As for the seams leaking I have a very expensive 2 man sil-nylon tent that I had to seam seal myself (manufacturer provided sealer with tent), its a pretty easy thing to do and a regular maintenance thing for some. I remember as a kid we camped over Thanksgiving every Elk season and had friends with a canvas tent. Usually about 2-3 feet of snow, they would set up the tent and spread out a few straw bales over the snow for a floor. It was a blast, kept pretty warm.

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't get it...I haven't had any issues. Comment below said the correct way is to tuck the sod cloth piece INSIDE the tent and then put the floor over the top of it...makes sense and should stop the cold air draft...I'm going to try that method next trip. I've seen many canvas wall tents with no floor at all. I grew up going to a camp that had old army canvas wall tents and they were setup on a deck floor like mine. I do need to seam seal this tent...I got some rain on the last trip and the seams were holding water just fine but I had just couple little ares with some drops where the water pooled by the edge of the ceiling as I didn't have the side ropes pulled down tight enough. I'll be happy when I get my wood stove though! Happy camping!

      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using my little buddy propane heater but I really want a wood stove for this winter. My issue is I don't want to buy a cheap flimsy wood stove just for the tent as the tent is just temporary while we build the cabin, and once the cabin is built we will transfer the wood stove to the cabin. But I don't want to buy a really large heavy wood stove that will be tough to move when setting up the tent. So I am kind of stuck right now. I could buy a small stove and then sell it once we build the cabin and buy a bigger one I guess.

  • @scenicroutetravelers3655
    @scenicroutetravelers3655 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi, thanks for your video. The reason it has a removable floor is because it's a "hot tent". You can't put a wood burning stove on a poly floor. You can buy a fireproof mat and do it, but typically, if your using a wood burning stove for heat inside the tent, it's cold and there are no creepy crawlies. In that situation, you really don't need a floor at all. All one would do is track in dirt and mud which would then get trapped in the bathtub floor. No hot tents have floors from the manufacturer, they are add on accessories.

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct! This one the section of floor under the stove is removable it zips in and out. On my first review video dozens of people said the tent was worthless because it has a removable floor, just uneducated complaints that are not based off experience with hot tent or wall tent they are just use to normal popup tents.

      @bfroutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is exactly what I am going to do! Been on my list for the last couple trips up to camp and just have not gotten to it yet. • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@luigibagins I mentioned it briefly in one of the other tent review videos, it's not bad, if you are not running a propane heater or a propane cooking stove there is almost none. During the warmer times once the sun comes out it dries right up anyway. But now that I have had it for two years, and last month I just got a wood stove and man that thing solves all those issues. I was starting to get a little mildew on the tent from having to pack it up when it was damp, nothing you can do about it really you gotta pack up and go home and the weather isn't always perfect, I need to treat it with a water sealer and ant-mildew and we will be golden. But the wood stove on the last trip man it dries everything up it's so nice. This tent with a wood stove is so nice.

      I always use the floor, winter and summer. I have not picked up a wood stove yet so I am just using my little buddy propane heater and I don't even put it in the area that is meant for the stove (there is an area below the hole for the stove pipe, on the floor, it unzips and that is where the stove goes). I have put the propane heater in different locations and not had any issues with the floor. Normally just keep the heater on very low, if you get one of those thermo-electric fans it will spread the heat very well, there are a bunch of videos on youtube that show how to cut the base of those fans to wedge right on top of the little buddy heater. Thanks boss! Next couple trips I'm building an out house and a rainwater collection on the top of the ridge, then we start building the first cabin right next to this deck. Lot of work but it's fun and rewarding!

    lol a detachable floor is a GOOD thing. My Eastern Mountain wall tent has NO FLOOR whatsoever and it doesn't need one.

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest it really doesn't need one if you are setting up on a deck or platform like mine. Most classic wall tents are designed to be setup on a platform. Yeah if you are one wet or soggy ground or on snow I would want a floor, but on the deck I actually don't need it, but once my deck board dry out a bit and contract then the floor will be drafty so just for warmth and wind blocking having the floor is good. But I have seen the expensive wall tents sold without it or as an addon option.

    Sir , I mean you no disrespect but you are totally wrong about the sod cloth ...Sod cloths are not intended to remain around the outside ...but instead they should be tucked INSIDE the tent...the floor is then laid overtop of the sod cloth making an effective waterproof , creature proof seal ...think about how you lowered or raised the front flap and soon you will get the picture...Call any reputable tent manufacturer...they will back me up on this c 1

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I grew up using old military canvas tents and I have seen many canvas tents all setup on platforms and from what I was taught the platform the tent is built on is suppose to be the same size as the tent and the sod cloth is suppose to be tacked down to the side of the platform. I did not know that setting up on the ground you would tuck it under and then lay the floor over the top of it…that would completely stop any cold air draft in cold weather. Learn something new every day! Thanks!

    Bum interested in that tent only if it can stand up to high winds 29, 49, 60, PLUS winds, do you know if it will stand or fall

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen 20mph wind in it and it was fine. It has pretty heavy duty stake hooks on the corners. The tie downs a solid. I think if you put something with weight down on the sod cloth area on the sides you will be fine at 20-40mph...I wouldn't guarantee anything besides hardcore mountaineering tents that are known to withstand over 50mph.

    How about the pole strength? I heard poles could get bent. How sturdy are they?

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think for normal use...a few times a year...in a climate that does not get massive snowfall...they are fine. If you want to leave this up for weeks at a time...and/or you are taking it to someplace that will get inches of snow overnight...then I would either reinforce the poles or replace them with electrical conduit. We might get a couple inches of snow once a year...and I am only in the tent for a few days at a time...so for me this tent has worked great and held up very well.

    Bugs: I would use this tent without a floor and with tent cots. Easier to guarantee no bugs with those tiny 1-person tents that go on top of a sleeping cot.

    • @bfroutdoors
      @bfroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know exactly what you're talking about. In large army tents that hold 12+ guys that is what they do, use the personal screens. My buddy just got back from a deployment in a place that is basically a swamp and has massive bugs all summer and he used one. If I were really concerned about bugs I would get one. And I always sleep on a cot. Just seal that bottom cloth to the ground with something with some weight and you're good.
