    proud to be pinoy. Even with the revolutionaries' lack of numbers and technology, they still put up a good fight and gave the americans a hard time.

    Tagalog Script on Bisaya? Bad touch there man

    • @colambu2919
      @colambu2919  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah it sounds a bit crazy lol. So i have three reasons for that. One is that baybayin is kinda becoming the default script people push for to be the national script these days. Secondly, if we are talking about Bisaya scripts like kurditan and badlit, I can safely say that some, if not all, is simply a hoax. According to historian Rolando Borrinaga of UP, the alleged Bisaya scripts were made by a certain Jovito Abellana and Jose Marco in the 20th century to "decipher" the Aginid Verse, which was supposedly the natives' account of Magellan. All of these were disproven. Lastly, baybayin is probably not Tagalog as well, since according to Borrinaga, there are more variants of baybayin in Visayas than in Luzon and that the sole reason why we think that it is an entirely different script is simply because people have different handwriting before. The Monreal Stones and Calatagan Pots are examples of precolonial artifacts with baybayin in it though its Latinized text is actually in Old Bisaya.

      @@colambu2919 This has been echoed by experts like Paul Morrow even before the terms "badlit", "kurditan", etc. became widespread on social media, there's a reason why only baybayin, hanunoo, tagbanwa and buhid were included in Unicode (which if I remember correctly, was submitted back in 1998). Experts back then emphasized that these separate "writing systems" are more akin to penmanship differences rather than separate scripts. Even the one used by Tagalogs show that samples from Kumintang (Batangas), Bulacan and Manila tend to differ too. Basically it was never standardized.
      Although as for the origins, it will probably never be determined, but most likely the scripts used by Filipinos is just a holdover of Kawi. Although the Spanish accounts included in some volumes of Blair & Robertson did mention that Tagalogs had writings before the Visayans, but they attribute the origins to Borneans who brought it to Tagalogs. But we also need to take into account that no brahmic script existed in Borneo.
      I was first introduced to Philippine scripts back in 2005, back then there's no subtle ethnonationalism in the picture at that time. Experts never called "baybayin" a Tagalog script, they tried to describe it as one writing system that is shared by many ethnic groups. As far as I know, you cannot also find the words "badlit", "kurditan", "basahan" in Spanish-era dictionaries, but you can certainly find "baybayin" in Vocabulario de la Lengua Tagala when describing the writing system.

      @@khust2993 yeah you cant find the badlit in the older times because visayan people probably just simply refer to it as "bisaya" or "sinulatang bisaya".

    Katipunan es un término que quiere decir la sociedad, la palabra raíz del tagalo es tipon que significa recolectar.
