    Wow, probably the most candid interview of Chase I've ever seen. I really feel like he's gotten a bad wrap, and not fairly so. You can't be expected to be in this business and not butt heads sometimes, and his complaints on Community were mostly legitimate. The internet loves to shit on Chevy Chase while putting people like Bill Murray on a pedestal, and he has been a legit monster several times (especially to women).

    I've loved Foul Play since it arrived in theaters. I always loved the persona of Chevy's detective, a guy having just a tad too big a self-confidence until he started to kind of show that he actually cared for Gloria, not just for himself. If Chevy was feeling insecure and didn't feel good enough, maybe that was good, otherwise we mightn't have seen the cracks in that armour that actually made the character's humanity seep through.

    I’m happy Chevy mentions he enjoyed making Funny Farm because I still feel that was his finest performance. He says it was a low key version of him which didn’t do very well at the box office but nowadays if I mention Chevy Chase and Funny Farm people think of it as an instant classic. It’s reputation has grown quite a bit since it’s release and I am happy to see that. Although I liked Chase’s films prior I felt his low key approach was utilized very well in Funny Farm and he did fine comic acting. I know what it’s like to be critical of yourself so I know what he’s saying but I personally thought he was very good in Foul Play.

    I like chevy chase. He's very honest about himself without the massive ego that people accuse him of. He IS a talented writer and performer, and wasn't afraid to try different things throughout his life. He was extremely successful, and to slag a person off for lack of consistency is hypocritical....... of everyone.

    4:59 -- note that Mike Myers (re)used the infinite-peeing schtick in Austin Powers -- Myers also stole Dana Carvey's Lorne Michaels impression for Dr. Evil in the same franchise -- neither one's a particularly 'deep' bit, but definite pattern of on-the-sly appropriation.

    he was brilliant and the great funny films, foul play, benji one, vacation one, fletch one...boy he s made me laugh, don t listen to what he says about his work, he is overly critical.and obviously his work in snl....one of the greatest...and for rock fans, the album he did with chameleon church as a drummer and singer, really good album..ie he s a good musician.

    Being electrocuted and almost dying on the set of Modern Problems really changed him for good, and not in a positive way. Hes apparently been suffering Ptsd and depression ever since. He's now pushing 80, and still has that razor sharp wit and brilliant timing, but it's sad that hes not acting in anything

    • @624radicalham
      @624radicalham 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      His toxic personality keeps him from acting in anything. He was an asshole on SNL and still is. A narcissist and an abuser. Thinks little of everyone else. But hey, he had good comedic timing. Horrible on that talk show with, like Carson said, zero ability to improvise.

    This is back when he [Chevy] was trying to shop his talk show -- started selling himself as "not really a comedy actor, more like a serious intellectual writer who tried absurdist improv as a side schtick" -- no question he's a smart guy, but this re-invention attempt didn't stick.

      Farley would have been difficult to acknowledge, as this interview was conducted in 1989, and Farley didn't join the cast of SNL until 1990.
