  • Welcome to Grozny, the capital of Chechnya (Chechen Republic). The Chechen Republic is a Muslim majority autonomous republic in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Unfortunately it is better known for the conflicts of the 1990's and early 2000's, which earnt Gronzy the title of 'the most destroyed city on earth'. Despite the stigma, and the Foreign Office warnings, the Chechnya of today is much changed from the one that hit the headlines a couple of decades back. We went in to get a look at real life in Chechnya and find out what Russia's most infamous republic is really like.

Humans have access to a literal thousand times the wealth as we had pre-industrial revolution, in terms of KW, Calories, whatever.
So we have enough energy available to survive (and then some) X 1000.
So if you aren't making 1000x more money than you need to pay your basic needs, your money is being taken somewhere.....and cities can rebuild so so fast simply all that wealth inside a destroyed city goes to rebuilding the city because whatever political structure was squandering that wealth before is temporarily gone.

Me with my wife visited Chechnya in a week long trip in may 2023. We were there for the first time in our lives and also none of us have ancestors from there so it was a bit creepy. The only thing that helped me to think of the region as about a good one is my homie that is Chechen: he is very kind and restrained and... so polite u know. So after the trip we got maybe not in their religion and history that is obviously too huge to wrap in a week of learning it through field trips but into their, what we call it, lifestyle. Like being polite, calm and respectful. And what made us surprised too was that they don't have any alcohol beverages in markets, when we got used to our alcoholic russian mentality with drinkers and alcomarkets everywhere, chechens drink a lot of sodas and spark waters (thankfully to the Caucasus with its springs of water). And also they turned to be a very sporty nation, like now we got why Chechens as well as Dagestan nations are so strong men with good stamina and overall health parameters

It seems so surreal after the 2 Chechen wars that the city is vibrant and full of life. Also, the long tragic history of the Chechen people shows how resilient, strong, and tough as a nation but deep sadness and emptiness as well for the lost generation for that didn't make it during the war. It makes Timur Mucrayev's songs out of place in today's Chechnya, unlike during the climax of the wars, perhaps peace is best for all.

I remember, one time I talked with a Russian vet who was a very, very agressive and cruel person, probably a psychopath. He keeped on braging about how he k*led chechen civilians, even kids, and how he enjoyed it. I used plagin to find all his comments on TH-cam - and amongst neo-nazi comments under the videos of skinheads beating up non-russians and other chauvinistic bulls.t, I found his comment under the Mutsuraev anti-russian song - and you know what? 😂 He was like "There are such a chechens! Chechnya is Russia, you ignoramus. Jihadi terrorists, the likes who turned Libya and Syria to rubble with western help, also tuned Grozny to rubble. It is Russia who saved Chechnya from the same fate visited on Libya and Syria, and rebuilt it with Russian money.

It is beautiful but the war will affect the yearly budget from Moscow to Grozny. They have had a comfortable period with huge yearly budgets allocated by Moscow, but that will change. They will have to change their economy, without the tens of billions from Moscow to finance the facade. Love Chechnya but the budgetary problems will affect Grozny.
