same i dog walked the lake of rot one with a plus 18 uchi and plus 9 moonveil and now with a +25 uchi and still a +9 moonveil i cant get this dude below half without running out of flasks, the cave gotta be messing with the hitboxes on some of his attacks bc i was dodging the lake of rot astelles attacks with ease
I was just letting about this on Reddit. I beat the first Astel the first time with my summons. This second Astel killed me 8 times in a row. His AoE attacks see impossible to avoid when you're melee trying to smack him on the head. They're so big you can't run away. I usually carry 7 and 7 flasks. I changed it to 11 and 3 and he stuff tore me up a new a-hole. I don't like cursing bosses beyond a summons (summons are a tool in the game I don't give an eff what any purist says - they're there to be used) but this guy is stupid hard. And that with a +10 legendary sword and 50 vigor, 65 faith, 55 strength, and he cuts my life down in 3 to 4 hours, 1 of he and his shadow clones catch me, which so far they have everytime.
Did seem to be aggro issues with my summons and this boss, even when using Shibiri's Woe. All my summons would kind of stand around and contemplate their belly buttons for way too long too. Worked out ok on 3rd try. Thanks
Yeah a lot of the summons have a little piece attached to their AI that essentially tells them to stay within a certain radius of the player the mimic is the easiest to notice this with as he will be shoulder deep inside a boss and then as soon as you back up like 4 or 5 ft he'll ignore the boss and just start running straight towards you like how some enemies won't chase you a certain distance away from their spawn point what the size of this range is more or less their arsenal they will tend to stick closer to the player if they have some range attacks so if you want to use your mimic unequip anything that lets you cast magic even go as far as to unequipped arrows because there's a fun little glitch with the mimic where it will just pull a bow out of its ass even if you don't have one equipped if it has arrows
This boss was no joke, this was a fight. Though with your strategy I only died once, instead of hours of repeated deaths. You literally "Saved The Game"!!!!
It’s official, scarlet rot doesn’t work on him. Atleast not now. Blasted him multiple times in the face close range, backed away for extended periods of time and his health stayed the same
I used this method but started attacking him at the start of his second phase, managed to beat him before he used his grabbing spell so would definitely recommend doing that

I used rot breath twice just now (post-SotE) and it didnt even proc rot. And whenever I moved away from the boss my summons would break off from fighting it and follow me. I tried a few different summons and they were all wildly ineffective at drawing aggro or even keeping track of the boss at all. As soon as it teleports they lose track of it. Summons are either stutter-stepping back and forth between me and the boss or lost in some corner of the arena trying to catch up to it. This fight absolutely punishes staying at range--but then he can also teleport across the arena at will. I tried some ranged summons fighting the first Astel just to experiment (at the advice of a guide) and they were worse somehow, firing small projectiles from long range at its head that missed 95% of the time.
Love hearing fellow Dixie country brothers making Elden ring vids. Gj man Edit - Also for anyone reading use black knife tich as your spirit summon. Lethu the Headless keeps teleporting back to me instead of attacking. BKT rushes in and bleeds him to death while you only need to hit him with rotten breath once

I did go in with the Blasphemous Blade and used it on him after his health was down to a quarter. I used the Rotten Breath on him three times and I hit him a few times with Rotten Arrows from a safe distance. I still had a hard time dodging his rain of meteors but they weren't one shots so that's okay. Anyway....I won. Thank you.
Too many patches since then. Scarlet rot strat doesnt really do anything anymore unless a boss is particularly weak to it. I used double rot breath on him and got him dead-on with both and it still didnt proc rot. Summons also stay at your side like puppies now so they will retreat from the boss and stop drawing aggro if you move too far away from them. Between those two things it makes this strat very dicey. Rot doesnt proc as easily or reliably with many bosses since they upped boss resistances to it (bc ppl used this strat on most bosses) and summons just keep running back towards me, then turning around & looking at the boss, then turning around & running back towards me instead of attacking, causing the boss to never aggro them and constantly shoot lasers and tail whip. I used to be good at this boss too, I dunno what happened. I could dodge the laser like clockwork, I fought both versions and never got hit by it, but now I get hit by it 80% of the time. Luckily it doesnt do massive damage against high vigor, but it's so tanky and can laser so often that its enough to run through your pots if you cant dodge it reliably. The tail whip tho, if you miss the timing on that dodge and he does the followup slam before you've recovered the 2nd tail slam does like 1500 damage. Which makes being at long range a nightmare scenario.
@@knugen16 If you need some real cheese, get a 100 phys shield and a strong summon thats agile or tanky like upgraded Tiche, walk in the door, press summon immediately & dodge behind the door immediately (or dodge behind the door for the first laser and then summon), then sit behind the door with your shield guard up. the only thing that can hit you there is the tail whip and it wont break your block. let your summon do the work and chill out holding the block button. if the summon is getting hurt put on Shabriri's Woe talisman to hold aggro on yourself. when it gets closer u can peek out to hit it with magic or throwables, maybe the pulley crossbow in your right hand with rot arrows, and just be ready to block the tail

@@knugen16 theres a lot of shields with that. the top guarded damage negation number is Physical 100. u can use a shield with less but you'll still take damage from physical attacks. nice u got it tho
another tip if you find it hard- use the rot pot. craft 2 rot pots and equip it alongside your flasks. summon the mimic after that. get close to the boss and try to stay close to it's head until mimic comes and throws the pots at him. then just stay at range and dodge the attacks(bloodhound steps are really good for this). the rot ticks are enough to take it to 2nd phase. when 2nd phase starts try to get close to boss with bloodhound steps. Keep your own rot pots ready and after dodging the meteors chuck the rot pots as fast as possible. if you throw the pots while being close to his head it becomes more easy but you need to throw 1 pot then dodge his attacks then throw another. If you are lucky and manage to successfully inflict rot on him you just need to repeat the long range dodges and you are good to go. I found the rot breath not working for me( it's my skill issue) so this was easier for me.
I defeated this Astel by spamming Rotten Breath with my new favorite summon, Black Knife Tiche. Fully upgraded Tiche was amazingly tanky. Anyway, thanks. This method really works!
Between dodging his attacks,lantenna's bombardment chipping away at rot and me casting Rock sling stunning as much as i could Astel didn't really know who to aggro on which created my openings lol
I used rotten breath until my mana was depleted and it didn't proc (6 attempts) , I fucking hate this boss 10 tries later I got him. Didn't wait around for the rot to get him, I attacked his head whenever he was close. Never say the teleport grabs which helped
This method does not work. I've got all the requirements and everything, I use the breath hold it in to do a good dose and 9 times out of ten it doesn't even tick down its health.
I don't know why but this boss no matter what summons I use they just stand there and I'm rolling around waiting for them to get his attention and they just don't lol, I've tried 8 types now and none have attacked it they just pace up and down in front of the gates I tried releasing them closer to it but got one shotted by the tail. I've never seen this before it's nuts
Easiest fight I had with Astel so far is with a good large shield (no ashes) and the Godskin peeler. Turns out Astel is kinda of allergic to its black flame charge attack, which can be done safely beneath its belly. You just gotta time it right and watch for his AoE attacks, which can one shot you if your Vigor isn’t high enough.
i killed this boss on third try... only problem was when he disappears and spawns shadow army of himself i didn't know how to avoid that but after i encountered that attack it was much easier...
After absolutely mopping up all of the bosses and side bosses in og map with no mimic tear i lowkey feel like this is the one of hardest boss fight in the original map. Even with my mimic tear and being extremely over leveled for this boss atp I still can’t get it past like half health
As a incantation/mage, using these strategies I did it in one try! couldnt do it before. He didn't even hit me once. Used the same summon and then threw rock sling at astel, he got stunned and then I used rotten breath, then kept spamming rock sling again. He couldnt even use the mirror image attack (maybe I was lucky)
How come every boss vid ive seen of yours has been to scarlet rot and hide? Idk if there was a nerf or scarlet rot scales w int or some other skill, but every time I use scarlet rot it does damage for 2 seeconds and stops..doesnt matter how close or how many times I do it, it legit does maybe a hundred damage or so then it stops..ive seen other vids of yours where you suggest the exact same strategy and eveeytime my scarlet rot does nothing, I trt and get closer..do it multiple times to proc and it just does a tiny amount of damage then stops..jm guessing all these vids are pre some SR nerf? Back to my throw out mimic then get in ans wild strike w a great brick hammer, which always works for me on big bosses like this, oh well. Thanks for the vid
Wow. This boss was terrible. I used Latenna and stuck her by the doors just to the right of them. Then occassionally ran into and under the boss and poked its head a few times, ran away while Latenna kept firing arrows at him. Rinse and repeat. Had the boss down to nothing and it pulled its special move and killed me. But finally with the mentioned technique, beat it fair and square. It was a terrible boss. One of the worst.
this is a very easy boss, you just need the Godskin peeler at max level and as ashes you need latenna the albinauric, get close with the peeler and hold LT (Xbox Controller) basically the special attack. Your ash will do allot of the work if you dont want to attack too much, your welcome.
Wow. So the Valuum bossq is in here twice. Like everything in this game. It's a ps1 boss with the difficulty dialed up to twenty. I want this horrible experience to just be over. It's just time sunk now.
Ok. I put on Shabiri woe. As sonn as fight starts summon my mimic. Then stand by the door and take off Shabiri woe. Boss will attack mimic. I dodge attacks. I had rot pots. Mimic threw rot pots. I stayed back and only occasionally attacked.
Thanks for the tips, finally beat this 'bleep' of a boss. BY FAR the hardest and load of BS for a boss I've come across in Elden Ring, This joke of a fight cam still 2 shot me out of the blue and I've even had a couple of full hp 1 shots from it.
Thank god! I've been stuck on this boss going on 35hrs now!!! 5hr sessions per day dedicated to this boss and cannot beat it. Have 99 vigor too! Level 307 and it wipes my entire health bar out in 1.2sec!!!
Also you could just run up with. The rot hammer or axe at plus 24 or 25 anyway yeah smacks him around I'm level 206 and he's still op and has a large health pool anyway that seems to work well and my mimic tear plus 10 does a nice job staying aggressive
I don't care what build you are use the gravity staff and rock sling with Latina deployed for your summons and you can just go ahead and Skip all this crazy stuff.
Dang, I was hoping you had a strategy for that weird multi clone grab one shot he does in phase three. Been playing for over two years and I never saw this weird clone move he does until now, when he gets lower than a quarter health. He disappears and appears all over the map in like 5 different places. Beat both versions I don’t know how many times and I’ve never seen him do this move. Gets me even if I roll. Maybe they added something new or just like in this video, he just doesn’t do it the 6 or 7 times I’ve faced him before (yelough anix tunnel boss). If he didn’t do that move this strategy woulda worked first try. Every time now he appears next to me n grabs me n one shots me. I got 60 vigor too. 😩

@@Ogles yeah I figured out how to avoid that multi clone grab. I would run to the entrance alcove and hide near there and it would mess up their grab. But heeeeey ogles. I got a new video for you to make. Wanna cheese Melina blade of Miquella with a new DLC blade? Boy did I stumble head first into this one. So that Meteoric Ore Greatsword you get from the DLC. It has a two phase special. A dash stab and an explosion of black electricity when you hit the special button one more time. Well that absolutely CHEWS up Melania over and over.. She cant recover!! Keep doing it at the right window and you can keep doing it in definitely. She has no defense to getting knocked to the ground over and over. Same with her second phase. Im not sure if they knew what they were making when they made that sword. Its a friggin cheat tool LOL.. Check it out! Nobody has done a video using its poise breaking abilities! You’d be the first, cause i have looked to see if anyone made one yet and couldn’t find any. Try it out if you think its worth a vidya!
yeah i beat this boss with melee. I'm not about to do it again. ima just do Ranni's ending for the first playthrough and do Fia's next, Valiant gargoyles are just as much of a ass though
Everytime I try to come into the room and run/roll to the side that cow whacks me with its tail. Super annoying to die 10 seconds in and reload and repeat.
Appreciate the video, but I get zero lasting effects of scarlet rot when i hit this guy with it. and then he follows me all over the room, too, so there's nowhere to hide. I hate when bosses are just one-shot superpowered. Makes it dumb.
Wjy does my mimic tear refuse to move towards him after i summon him? He just stands by the door and wont go after him? This didnt happen a year ago when i first played?
What's worse is that I almost did it in one go (on my very first attempt) because thanks to Tiche's blood loss attacks the boss actually got KO'd a few seconds after I died...just unfortunate that it didn't count, a few seconds earlier and I probably would've had it in the bag. Tried a few more times but it's tail kept one shotting me (how the hell I managed to dodge it on my first attempt at the boss I'll never know but I've never been able to avoid it since). I'm a mage so using the best shields is out of the question but I might be able to use a decent one; we'll see if that helps, might try the Scarlet Rot strategy too. Funny how I never had this much trouble with the Withered Astel back in the Lake Of Rot!
I've managed to get through other bosses decently or after a few attempts. F this boss, had me on 10 tries before putting the game down last night. I got him down to near nothing a few times and he'd pull some shit out of nowhere to kill me.

Rotten Breath, really is a strat for like 75% of the game if you are having problems with anything :D

Yes!! Most of them just hang back! I'm okay with Oleg and also with the Dragon Knight. Mimic is NOT happy in this battle.

It does much more damage than the normal dragon incantations. However, yes it doesn’t affect him with actual rot anymore. :/

Combined prudent distance with mimic tear. Ancient dragon lightning strike and rotten breath worked quite well.
I tried to kill this monster for a whole day, then gave up. Just came back and killed it easily with the blasphemous blade. This game is weird.

I used Latenna to agro the boss , i waited a bit til he was fuly focused on her so i could get behind him and use rottenbreath on it .

IT WORKS as of October 24 (you have to apply scarlet rot 2 times for it to deal damage over time)

After absolutely mopping up all of the bosses and side bosses in og map with no mimic tear i lowkey feel like this is the one of hardest boss fight in the original map. Even with my mimic tear and being extremely over leveled for this boss atp I still can’t get it past like half health
As a incantation/mage, using these strategies I did it in one try! couldnt do it before. He didn't even hit me once. Used the same summon and then threw rock sling at astel, he got stunned and then I used rotten breath, then kept spamming rock sling again. He couldnt even use the mirror image attack (maybe I was lucky)
Didn't even think about using rot breath in the first astel fight cause rock sling was doing pretty well, but I'll keep it mind.
My first try I got him to 15% health then he did that grab attack where he summons like 10 of himself;-;

How come every boss vid ive seen of yours has been to scarlet rot and hide? Idk if there was a nerf or scarlet rot scales w int or some other skill, but every time I use scarlet rot it does damage for 2 seeconds and stops..doesnt matter how close or how many times I do it, it legit does maybe a hundred damage or so then it stops..ive seen other vids of yours where you suggest the exact same strategy and eveeytime my scarlet rot does nothing, I trt and get closer..do it multiple times to proc and it just does a tiny amount of damage then stops..jm guessing all these vids are pre some SR nerf? Back to my throw out mimic then get in ans wild strike w a great brick hammer, which always works for me on big bosses like this, oh well. Thanks for the vid
Depends on which talismans you are using, and which seal/seals are you casting rotten breathed wirh...hope you figured it out, cheers
Wow. This boss was terrible. I used Latenna and stuck her by the doors just to the right of them. Then occassionally ran into and under the boss and poked its head a few times, ran away while Latenna kept firing arrows at him. Rinse and repeat. Had the boss down to nothing and it pulled its special move and killed me. But finally with the mentioned technique, beat it fair and square. It was a terrible boss. One of the worst.
this is a very easy boss, you just need the Godskin peeler at max level
and as ashes you need latenna the albinauric, get close with the peeler and hold LT (Xbox Controller) basically the special attack.
Your ash will do allot of the work if you dont want to attack too much, your welcome.
Wow. So the Valuum bossq is in here twice. Like everything in this game. It's a ps1 boss with the difficulty dialed up to twenty. I want this horrible experience to just be over. It's just time sunk now.
I used the rot and it was dropping his health but then stopped. What the heck?
Ok. I put on Shabiri woe. As sonn as fight starts summon my mimic. Then stand by the door and take off Shabiri woe. Boss will attack mimic. I dodge attacks. I had rot pots. Mimic threw rot pots. I stayed back and only occasionally attacked.

Thanks for the tips, finally beat this 'bleep' of a boss. BY FAR the hardest and load of BS for a boss I've come across in Elden Ring, This joke of a fight cam still 2 shot me out of the blue and I've even had a couple of full hp 1 shots from it.

Thank god! I've been stuck on this boss going on 35hrs now!!! 5hr sessions per day dedicated to this boss and cannot beat it. Have 99 vigor too! Level 307 and it wipes my entire health bar out in 1.2sec!!!
Also you could just run up with. The rot hammer or axe at plus 24 or 25 anyway yeah smacks him around I'm level 206 and he's still op and has a large health pool anyway that seems to work well and my mimic tear plus 10 does a nice job staying aggressive
Just did max mimic with just rot breath and shields for both of us and got astels ai caught in a loop after 6-7 tries and destroyed it

I don't care what build you are use the gravity staff and rock sling with Latina deployed for your summons and you can just go ahead and Skip all this crazy stuff.

Best tip is to take a break chill out then try again i managed to complete with rock sling and black knife tiche at +3 after taking a break
Dang, I was hoping you had a strategy for that weird multi clone grab one shot he does in phase three. Been playing for over two years and I never saw this weird clone move he does until now, when he gets lower than a quarter health. He disappears and appears all over the map in like 5 different places. Beat both versions I don’t know how many times and I’ve never seen him do this move. Gets me even if I roll. Maybe they added something new or just like in this video, he just doesn’t do it the 6 or 7 times I’ve faced him before (yelough anix tunnel boss). If he didn’t do that move this strategy woulda worked first try. Every time now he appears next to me n grabs me n one shots me. I got 60 vigor too. 😩

@@Ogles yeah I figured out how to avoid that multi clone grab. I would run to the entrance alcove and hide near there and it would mess up their grab.
But heeeeey ogles. I got a new video for you to make. Wanna cheese Melina blade of Miquella with a new DLC blade? Boy did I stumble head first into this one. So that Meteoric Ore Greatsword you get from the DLC. It has a two phase special. A dash stab and an explosion of black electricity when you hit the special button one more time. Well that absolutely CHEWS up Melania over and over.. She cant recover!! Keep doing it at the right window and you can keep doing it in definitely. She has no defense to getting knocked to the ground over and over. Same with her second phase. Im not sure if they knew what they were making when they made that sword. Its a friggin cheat tool LOL.. Check it out! Nobody has done a video using its poise breaking abilities! You’d be the first, cause i have looked to see if anyone made one yet and couldn’t find any. Try it out if you think its worth a vidya!
im level 135 with scorpion's stinger and there's no way i can build any scarlet rot on him.

yeah i beat this boss with melee. I'm not about to do it again. ima just do Ranni's ending for the first playthrough and do Fia's next, Valiant gargoyles are just as much of a ass though

Everytime I try to come into the room and run/roll to the side that cow whacks me with its tail. Super annoying to die 10 seconds in and reload and repeat.

Dude it takes me like 4 rotten breaths to get rot to even active
What's worse is that I almost did it in one go (on my very first attempt) because thanks to Tiche's blood loss attacks the boss actually got KO'd a few seconds after I died...just unfortunate that it didn't count, a few seconds earlier and I probably would've had it in the bag. Tried a few more times but it's tail kept one shotting me (how the hell I managed to dodge it on my first attempt at the boss I'll never know but I've never been able to avoid it since). I'm a mage so using the best shields is out of the question but I might be able to use a decent one; we'll see if that helps, might try the Scarlet Rot strategy too. Funny how I never had this much trouble with the Withered Astel back in the Lake Of Rot!

I've managed to get through other bosses decently or after a few attempts. F this boss, had me on 10 tries before putting the game down last night. I got him down to near nothing a few times and he'd pull some shit out of nowhere to kill me.
Might’ve been patched.. it works for the first phase but after that it doesn’t do continuous damage like it does in the video
I think it was patched as astel also follows you if you hide behind the crystals and destroys them as well and the rot stops as well
