If Astel doesn't do the grab, it's fine. If he does, you'll either be too far to get grabbed, or far enough so that you just have to dodge to avoid it. This always worked for me, I hope it helps.
I got so mad from him doing that to me I went and maxed out the ornament swords that the graph tutorial boss uses .. omg it was so relieving stabbing his skull multiple times but it’s a tricky one

BUFFING TIP: This varient you can buy some prep time by stepping behind the first stalagmite on your left. The beam will hit that while you buff. After that you're usually close enough for him to stop shooting and aggro.
Staying in the middle (the area kinda glows so you’ll know where to be) when Astel teleports during phase 2 was the difference for me. That shadow attack always got me but once I stayed in the middle, it never triggered that attack the rest of the fight.

Summon a ash to distract him then use stone of guranq to throw at his head to stun him, takes like 5 hits if you’re having trouble getting close to him, When you do get close he’s weak to all physical attacks but I like slash/bleed builds so bloodhound fang with bloodflame got him to bleed and die fairly quick once it was triggered
I really strugled with this POS. Took me between 2 and 3 hours of constant trying. Got him after using all FP flasks, all HP flasks and at my very last HP points. Many times, I didn't even get to land a strike on him, thanks his tail whips. Used rotten breath and Lhutel the headless.
Naturalborn of the Void is also an optional boss since it is part of Ranni's questline. Also like kade above me said, probably some lore stuff. I mean it's a being from the void and usually that means true death isn't a thing for those beings and all that jazz

Took it down in one try but my HP was in the single digits, flask is empty, and summon was dead. Got extremely lucky. Bloodhound step on my melee build was a saving grace.
2 years later and I'm finally returning to kick Astel's ass. This fight gave me such a hard time I took a break from the game. Sadly never came back... until now! Thanks for the tips, about to stand up to this bully
got bodied like 10 times back to back to back trying to use bleed twinblades. said fuck it and pulled out my dual lightning lordsworn short swords with bloodhound step and immediately dunked on him. that blink made all the difference in dealing with these OBNOXIOUS attacks.
Knowing what we get at the end I'm definitely not going to resume trying. One Astel was already too much for me. Radahn starting with an almost identical opening is so much fairer than this, and they pull this "trick" three times in total. I was hoping for a bell bearing or something, but a spell especially for my melee/faith main is not worth the pain for me. It was incredible seeing you dodge Astel's insane attacks, especially the clones. I'd never call this boss fun - but in truth I'd never call 90% bosses fun either, I'm always happiest when exploring and reading the lore.
Quality game. Simply OPng your character isn't enough to beat the game. I've rune farmed a fair bit but now, to progress, I need to actually learn to do battle etc. Which I am currently failing to figure out. It's too hectic lol
Beat this guy last night - waaay harder than the first one. I was surprised when he actually went down. Gave me more trouble than the 2 gargoyles who pushed my shit in many times.
I have read from a post that you can use the "Spread Out" gesture to avoid the grab attack. I have used this but Astel didn't go for the grab so I cannot confirm its effectivity.
I literally just beat him first try after the vid by uding the dragon scarlet rot ability which chipped away his hp and luckily no grab attack, your vid helped a lot cuz I didn't realize he kept spamming gravity attacks bcuz I was constantly under him,not in frint like you (0_0)
I somehow beat this boss while fat rolling..was using another weapon then swirched to blasphemous blade not realizing it made me heavy load. Just used my mimic and used just the sword, all my range attacks missed. My mimic made it possible though as I wouldnt have closed the gap w/o him...the fire damage from just swinging the BB really decimated its health pool..I guess having all that tanky armor (poise 73) and the medallion that vastly reduces non physical damage means I kinda tanked this boss..dont really have a tank build as my vigor is at 43..not low but not super high, but his attention was off me just enough..used all 8 of my heals and even missed all my weapon skill attacks w blasphemous blade. Just get in there and land 3 to 4 good melee hits before bailing or being ejected and pray your summon tanks and aggros him a lot. W/o the non physical dmg negation talisman he was one shotting me to bits tho
I tried beating him melee only save for a few spells, until I got smashed 10 times in a row, I got him low on health but ultimately died and it’s incredibly frustrating chasing after him with a melee weapon. So what I did to beat this boss was upgrade my carian scepter to +9, put on all my int boosting gear and started hitting him with rock sling. When you enter the arena dodge his laser beam then call in your mimic tear, run close to him so your summon realizes he’s in a fight, dodge his attacks and when you get the chance start spamming rock sling at him. I got him to stagger twice with rock sling, in which case it’s probably best to keep slinging rocks instead of run up to him and hitting him because he gets back up quickly. Anyways, that spell made this fight tremendously easier. But great job beating him melee only solo! I didn’t have the patience to fight this guy for 2 hours, not for a reused boss.
This was a tough fight I used my mimic tear and both of us blasted him with a ruins greatsword and scarlet rot, that tail one shot me many times , but I was persistent , new york
Wasn't overly difficult, just that one hit kill grab is a total bitch, I got lucky and didn't get got the first and only time the clones came in, which was the time I beat him. No summons first playthrough, but I'm cheesing the hell out of this guy next time.
summons are shit on this boss anyway. first off is they seem to not want to attack him, then even if they do they don't really do much damage, don't hold aggro, and get yeeted and deleted quick.
I've been him on ng1,+1, and plus +2. He was difficult but beatable. On ng3 he's pretty much impossible. He's so aggressive with his tail whip that you die summoning. I'm level 355 BTW with 78 vigor. Still get one shotted by the tail
Little tip for people having trouble don’t worry about recollecting your runes, I kept trying to get them and would he’d get so much damage on me in the process, just let them go and focus on the fight he’s easy once you get his attacks down and play it cautious. If you even think he’s gonna do the one shot move move away good luck tarnished.
Damn being a STR build is so annoying in this game x) Attacks and animation recovery so slow it's hard to get hits in without having to trade. Especially seeing how casual you can whack the boss inbetween stuff here... Feeling like casters / dex builds are the way to go in Elden Ring lmao. Good vid tho, underappreciated my guy. Your stuff helped me beat some annoying ones already.

I tried it multiple times with my Mimic Tear +10, only came to about 75% once. Then I tried it with Ancestral Follower +10, got him in one try... just barely. I noticed that he's more agressive when there's two melee dudes near him, instead of just me.
It’s a pretty easy dungeon tbh. It’s basically down around the corner. Around another corner. Jump the gap then up the ladder into a room. Beat that guy. Then open up the door at the dead end

Best was to kill this dude is by using lantenna 10+ summon comet spell for mage build
I had to give up on him yesterday, but I’ll be back. Thanks for the tips! 😊
Gravity type spells and attacks are generally more effective on Astel.
Kudos. Great vid and explanation.
Great video, helped out
I was completely flabbergasted when 12 of him showed up around the room.
When he shoots the first beam, you can run towards those stalagmites, them beam wont go through for some reason,I guees they are made of Ancient Dragon smithing stones ore something xD.You can get closer to him whilr just sprinting, better than waiting to dodge even though that move is the easiest one to dodge
Summon a ash to distract him then use stone of guranq to throw at his head to stun him, takes like 5 hits if you’re having trouble getting close to him,
When you do get close he’s weak to all physical attacks but I like slash/bleed builds so bloodhound fang with bloodflame got him to bleed and die fairly quick once it was triggered
The best part of this dungeon… Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone
There is another one called naturalborn of void. Most bosses really repeat in this game.
I think it has something to do with the lore.. not them being lazy lol
Naturalborn of the Void is also an optional boss since it is part of Ranni's questline. Also like kade above me said, probably some lore stuff. I mean it's a being from the void and usually that means true death isn't a thing for those beings and all that jazz
@@kadeweezywoodward9485 With the ridiculous amount of repeat bosses that have no overarching greater lore, it's pretty obvious that they ran out of time or just got lazy
@@MrBarfingRainbows that’s a stretch lol yeah there’s quite a few repeats but the vast majority of bosses are unique on top of the bosses being generally very high quality
@@peen2804 Lol? There's only 9 bosses you fight once. Every other boss is fought multiple times.
Thanks for showing the entrance!
That door doesn't open from that side. I don't know what's going on there.
After 8 months I can't believe I'm only just learning about this boss lol
Took it down in one try but my HP was in the single digits, flask is empty, and summon was dead. Got extremely lucky. Bloodhound step on my melee build was a saving grace.
bro, even 2y later. Big thanks haha! With your guide only 3 tries
2 years later and I'm finally returning to kick Astel's ass. This fight gave me such a hard time I took a break from the game. Sadly never came back... until now! Thanks for the tips, about to stand up to this bully
4:50 for this attack there’s no way to get to the middle in time, 36th try on this fight
The reason why this boss is hard is because of the grab attacks. The hitbox is brutally unfair and it’s a one-hit kill
got bodied like 10 times back to back to back trying to use bleed twinblades. said fuck it and pulled out my dual lightning lordsworn short swords with bloodhound step and immediately dunked on him. that blink made all the difference in dealing with these OBNOXIOUS attacks.
Hardest faze of that boss is fighting against the camera 🎥 angles
Quality game. Simply OPng your character isn't enough to beat the game. I've rune farmed a fair bit but now, to progress, I need to actually learn to do battle etc. Which I am currently failing to figure out. It's too hectic lol
Beat this guy last night - waaay harder than the first one. I was surprised when he actually went down. Gave me more trouble than the 2 gargoyles who pushed my shit in many times.
How is a mini boss harder the a main boss
the roll does work for that gravity slam btw
I have read from a post that you can use the "Spread Out" gesture to avoid the grab attack. I have used this but Astel didn't go for the grab so I cannot confirm its effectivity.
I've heard that before, but I admittedly never remember emotes haha. I do believe it works, though!
I literally just beat him first try after the vid by uding the dragon scarlet rot ability which chipped away his hp and luckily no grab attack, your vid helped a lot cuz I didn't realize he kept spamming gravity attacks bcuz I was constantly under him,not in frint like you (0_0)
Maaan was struggling so hard against him, nearly 15 tries. So i just followed your advices, and got it 2 tries later :) !
If I were a star worm beast, I'd find a better home than a room in an ice cave. Maybe a Pizza Hut in Idaho or a Taco Max in Minnesota ?
Its juts the constant aoe attack that make it hard to get close.
I just re spec my character with faith annd dex, upgraded the black knife to +9 and spammed the weapon art to kill him, and it worked first try XD
0:16 Ok something isn't right. That door to the right is not accessible. How did you get to the boss that way?
I've been him on ng1,+1, and plus +2. He was difficult but beatable. On ng3 he's pretty much impossible. He's so aggressive with his tail whip that you die summoning. I'm level 355 BTW with 78 vigor. Still get one shotted by the tail
Black Knife Tiche +10 and spam rock slide if your an INT/caster build super easy fight!
As someone who loves greatsword builds (and there are some incredible great weapons in this game), I feel your pain. I keep a longsword handy for fights where great weapons get punished. It's a shame, really.
@@SweetJohnnyCage Been rocking Guts' greatsword and switched to Starscourge Greatsword as soon as I got it. It's so nice, but too many enemies / bosses in this game punish Greatswords with their quick and aggressive attack patterns :(
go use bloodhound step on your weapons
It’s basically Naturalborn of the Void, and I hated that boss because it was standing in the way of me finishing Ranni’s questline
This boss is kickin' my ass!
Also, if you keep sprinting to the right amidst the meteor attack, the meteors will not hit you
This boss beat me and my mimic’s ass damn near 20x. Godskin Peeler was very effective
i beat the real version of this boss in 1 try but this guy is causing me so much trouble
same, this version of the boss was so hard for me but the one in rannis quest line was really easy
He is giving me the business
I sympathies with anyone fighting this boss after the bloodhound step nerf that being said this is actually a fun boss to me a kicking it ass with strength colossal great sword build was suuuper satisfying
The blasphemous blade really made this boss easy for me.
Mimic tear with black knife at 9+ and spam the L2 worked for me after 100 deaths trying everything else . You need to be close to do it but that's the trick because if you are to far away you get smoked .
Thank you. I just beat him doing this lol
@@HeroOfTime1 just gotta find what works hey. I'm stuck on the Elden beast. It's like I just started the game all over again and I'm back at the start I won't spoil it but ....... Be prepared to die, lots and lots and lots .
Dude I can't thank you enough. If you hadn't taken that door to the right to get to the boss I would have never known about it. That last bitch right before the boss at the end always took too many of my resources for me to fight the big boss with. So I finally looked around the corner to the left after I beat that bitch and found the side door that lets you skip the entire tunnel and go straight to the boss. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I used Mimic summon with dry rot dragon breath and the candle stick great hammer thingy
I tried it multiple times with my Mimic Tear +10, only came to about 75% once. Then I tried it with Ancestral Follower +10, got him in one try... just barely.
I noticed that he's more agressive when there's two melee dudes near him, instead of just me.
I used swarm of flies and bleed worked really well.
Yeah I beet him like that the first 2 times but I think they patched it. Sucks now
that guide to the dungeon itself should be mentioned in the title. I was searching desperately for that info
It’s a pretty easy dungeon tbh. It’s basically down around the corner. Around another corner. Jump the gap then up the ladder into a room. Beat that guy. Then open up the door at the dead end
Honestly I was pretty lucky when I beat him on my second try, especially when he didn’t try his grab attack at all during the fight.
that gravity combo 1 shots me wtf
My main problem is that I can dodge its attacks fine but can’t hit it half the time it’s got some amazing hitbox
