Great video! I subscribed to you awhile ago because I loved the shorts you have made which are "The Making of the..." I crack up over some of them and can watch them over and over again. Usually when it is about SNES or N64 or even 90s TV show themes. You are so right in everything you said in this video about Retro Game music. And I love how TH-cam allows me to find videos or people making videos with songs from my childhood. This topic could probably be discussed for hours or days covering some of the most nostalgic soundtracks from video games to pop culture. Always amazing to discover a song or a old TV show that you haven't heard in over 30 years.
It isn't always cause of nostalgia , listen to tmnt shredders revenge ost more than half of the songs are bangers, especially my favorite technodrome redux
I find basically anytime I look up 70s to 90s media I've never seen before, whether it's comics, anime, games, or hell just music, I always find a charm to them that feels like nostalgia, even though it's a first viewing. They just have the right feel.
why is game music so good? hard japanese work ethic, fun new technology to play with, a combination of hardware limitations and new freedoms (things real instruments could never do), and a general focus on solid, hummable melodies and harmonies over messy, boring orchestras or passing mainstream popular music fads. Why is it so POPULAR? because for a long time, it was free and readily available. Even if you had a crummy computer and bad internet, you could still go to vgmusic and grab some midi files and enjoy those. Hundreds of them. For free. Japan didn't care, they let all that ripped media flow like water, and it hooked us all like fish in the water. The water hooked the fish.. uh.. you get what I mean.
