I lived at Pillar Point when this happened. It was a beautiful day, but the water was butt cold and the swell was west - right into the rocks. Eric Nelson took the land angle shots of Foo's last ride shown here. The waves were alot bigger than they said. Clark said it was the cold water and the red eye flight and Foo made a mistake. It shocks you. Foo just couldn't hold his breath long enough.
Anyone who charges mavericks on a big day earns my respect. The guy died doing what he loved. I don't understand how some of you can take the piss. The guy deserves a lot of respect.
He was probably trying to come up when the second wave pounded him before he could.. But the fact he didn't get pushed where Little and Parsons ended up, maybe is a sign he wasn't moving anywhere... maybe his leash was wrapped around a rock for the entire set.

That coupled together with the ''fact'' these guys just show up there and expect to ride unfamiliar shores to them is totally beyond me.these guys are total pros and what happened that day just put them all in perspective,ok? They said God WANTED Mark so bad...?... That wasn't it at all. Mark wanted God. RIP!
I very much agree with you. I didnt say that i respect him for the sole reason that he died doing what he loved. I didnt even say that what so ever. I respect him coz he was a big wave surfer and i know how much determination it takes to charge waves as big as that. Can't read? Moron. tsss...
