- This week’s film breakdown analyzes Trevor Lawrence's rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars have drafted rookie quarterbacks in the first round in the past, but time and time again, they’ve churned them through their factory of sadness, and ultimately ruined them. Unsurprisingly, Lawrence had a horrible season and the Jaguars went 3 and 14. What happened during his rookie season? And are there any hopes of improvement? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

What is your most controversial NFL take that will (almost) bring people to blows? Mine is to ban kickers, you heard me, GONE
No kickers.. then play handball
Derrick Henry needs to prove he’s not washed. He’s no longer an elite back
Healthy Baker Mayfield is top 10, has had top 5 QB games.
Ban wide receivers. ALL of them
Tom Brady is overrated. Pretty much every team he's been on was stacked (players and coaches). Put him on a team like the Jags for every year of his career and all those rings and MVP awards go away. Would likely still a HoFer but definitely not GOAT status.
The one thing I do like about Lawrence was his willingness to stand up to his coaching staff. When they benched Robinson for a fumble he went to them and had Robinson's back and in a press conference he called out the disarray within the organization and did it in a way that was diplomatic at the same time. He looks and seems very laid back but he also is willing to step up and be forceful and showed leadership as a rookie. Whether that overcomes other deficiencies we shall see but at the very least he's willing to step up and say what needs to be said.
Agreed. One of the few people in the league I think has the mentality to lead and survive turning them around. I also think Minchew is a rare mentality also though and he was let go...
@@morsumbra9692 minshew couldnt throw the ball accurately more than 40 yards down the field. its a reason hes on nobody else depth chart
@@markjames6427 yeah but his mentality is S tier.
Thing is a well ran coaching staff wouldn't even get to that situation. Rational minds would be in sync with Lawrence in trying to get the most out of both sides of the ball. If the generational QB has to be pulling these things, legit ownership/FO (and they have much at stake with this as well) have to bring in ACTUAL adults who have a plan to help coach these young adults in a work environment.
shoot. Lawrence's career is on the line with the pathetic jags, it's good that he's speaking up for and against the team.
Cleveland is the Factory of Sadness while Jacksonville is one of the distribution centers for the same corporation of agony.

And they just won their division today. Not a Jags fan, but really happy for them given what they've gone through.
1:56 The Jaguar receivers may have been "impossibly slow" and couldn't get open, but at least they dropped the 3rd most balls. Oh, wait....
I still believe Trevor Lawrence can be a great QB and fulfill his potential, but the next season or so will be pivotal in determining that. Whether that will be a detriment to his overall development remains to be seen. He was fantastic in college, but I don’t think any QB could do anything with that Jags offense and Meyer as head coach. He was undoubtedly the biggest blue chip QB to come out of college since Luck. Anyone needing a QB would have selected him at 1.
The worst QB on the best team is still going to be far better than the best QB on the worst team (only factoring in offense of course). Would love to see what Lawrence could do on a good team. Shit, imagine him on the patriots for example.
Imagine if he had gone to the Patriots or Broncos, he'd have a bright career ahead of him.
Trevor Lawrence is Tim Tebow 2.0 - a great college quarterback who, once he got to the NFL level showed the deficiencies in his game when against a similar caliber of athlete to his own squad, unlike his situation in college. Just look at what LSU did to him in the 2019 championship game. Ok, that's cruel - he has better mechanics than Tebow... but he's not the talent he's been hyped to be.
The Jags have a poor O-line, and even if Lawrence is better than I've ever thought he was, he'll never have a chance to show it with an O-line that can't keep him clean.
On the other hand, the Bengals, who also have a terrible O-line, went to the Super Bowl last year behind the same QB that thrashed Lawrence in the aforementioned 2019 Championship game. Don't even try to argue the point, Burrow is the most sacked QB in the league since he came into the league! Its not even close, either.
I don;t think Lawrence has any real shot to be Aaron Rodgers 2.0, but he DEFINITELY doesn't have a chance if the Jags don't buy him a better O-line!
This is why the Jags overpaid for Kirk btw. Getting some players in there that are at least good enough for your young QB to actually get to play normal QB snaps and improve is 10x more important than whatever production you think you will get from Kirk. The Jags aren't paying 18 million to Kirk for ~1000 receiving yards, they are paying him 18 million to allow Lawrence to develop. In the short term that might be an overpay, but in 3 years time when they can get out of that contract that 18 million is worth every penny if it means Lawrence has developed into a franchise QB.
No one is blasting for getting a receiver. Everyone is blasting for a slow team getting a slowish guy.
@@morsumbra9692 He's a proven WR2 that, although he played with a great QB in K1, has proven that he can play at the NFL level reliably. That's something that Lawrence really, really needs. A consistent threat that can get open.
@@WhiskyChordata a sub 3second threat that can get open. Lawrence just needs someone open quick. A Micheal Thomas, Scary Terry, Justin Jefferson type. Not so much a Stefon Diggs, Hopkins, Landry, Kirk type, though all help is welcome at this point.
@@morsumbra9692 Agreed. Lawrence definitely still needs help at WR. But given how tough the FA market is, we needed someone. I hope we can hit on our drafts next year to get him some serious help.
I agree 100%
Shahid Khan isn’t just horrible, he might also be one of the most clueless owners in all of professional sports.
he has a handlebar mustache he is very unserious
What owner the Miami Marlins have now probably takes the cake
Mannnn we gotta get him up outta here, watching some of these organizations ruin talent is so fucking frustrating
He needs to act like Steve Biscotti of my Ravens. Hang back, make suggestions but let the GM and Coaches run the team.
He should leave he is bad but owners don’t play tho it’s not really his fault they suck

@@AlexRollinsNFL when Trent Balke is your GM, the highest expectations you can have is maybe 5 wins
As a former Jaguar of 7 years(07-14) I can say that the Jags are a franchise that suffers from bad management top-down. My first 5 years we competed and had a playoff appearance. last 2 when Khan bought the team were absolutely horrid. he does not understand building culture. he doesn't understand what a good coach looks like. maybe Doug P will change things around.
That's exactly how it appears from outside the building as well, constant mismanagement, no identity, no direction. I miss the late 90s/early 2000s Jags
So weird to see you here my good sir, would you possibly be available to come out of retirement and replace the revolving doors we have at guard currently? lmao

2:08 three receivers run into each other, with two ending up standing right next to each other looking completely lost, and both being blanketed by a single defender. Almost balletic.
Omg😂😭
I never thought of Trevor as a generational talent but he certainly has the physical tools to be a good and maybe great nfl quarterback if he can get in the right system.

Coming back to this video, I am happy to report that they have not ruined Trevor Lawrence and we are one win away from seeing him in the playoffs!!
Trevor Lawrence is SUPERMAN 💪🏼 #DTWD
the title alone made me laugh so i had to watch
4:09 Not totally concept or receivers. As you were saying 'he had nobody open'', he had a guy open at the 36 and the 46 - 1 open at the first down, and 1, 10 yards beyond (looking back at Lawrence, ready for the ball). If he'd thrown it quick and early, especially to the guy at the 46, with the receiver still running, he'd have had this 1st down and possibly more.
2:26 What the heil?!?
Great spotlight. After the 49ers the Jags are one of a couple teams I like to keep my eye on (loved the Brunell/Coughlin years). Really unfortunate what happened last season with Urban Meyer nuking the franchise, and basically wasting a year of Lawrence's development. Hopefully, he'll be able to bounce back under an actual competent coach in Doug Pederson. It's only been one season, so if he's developed any really bad habits, maybe Doug can start to iron them out. Team still needs a lot of talent though, and I'm really curious as to why they shelled out a bunch of money for guys like Zay Jones or Christian Kirk. I know Lawrence needs weapons, but damn that's a lot of money in guys that haven't necessarily done big things in the league. Also, maybe I'm spiteful since he was the previous GM with the 49ers, but Trent Baalke being involved seems like a demoralizing reality.
Thanks TLD! Although I'm sorry to hear you've been watching the Jags all these years 😂 Yeah, I really like Trevor as a player, it will be impressive if he can turn things around. Imo the receiver thing was just to get competent play and make sure Trev had at least an (average?) receiving corps, so they could run a real offense.
Also, Baalke should be tried for what he did to your 49ers
@@AlexRollinsNFL Couldn't be worse compared to Urban Meyer running the show I guess. So Trevor by default is in a better situation. And yes, those Brunell teams were eons ago now heehaw.
I know Meyer was shitty, but what did he do that was so bad?
As a Browns fan I say, hands off our nickname.
I can’t stop laughing from this title 😭😭😭
Yes, yes we are
I also think that it’s really early into his career. I think Trevor makes the leap but there’s still a little more to be done from a roster building standpoint like an outside threat receiver but overall I’m optimistic
Yeah: sadness for the rest of the league.
Man, I feel bad for him and it's not even like he's on of my favorite players. I really hope the Jags get it together but I don't know how likely that is. Thanks for the breakdown. Also, I'm already hyped for the NFL to start up again
When I first started prepping for the episode I started with the Jags/Jets game. No film has ever made me feel actual depression until I watched that
The fans are confident behind coach Petterson and Trevor.
I really hope so. I wanted the Doug hiring, glad to see it happen
Ownership has been pretty awful too.
It’s sad bro Trevor Lawrence neither finna be a Jim Pickett or Matthew Stafford type number 1 overall pick gone have all his prime years wasted on a terrible organization and bad teams then get saved at da end by a good franchise with 1 missing peace at quarterback 💯 u literally already c tht happening
He doesn’t have to stay when his rookie contract is up im pretty sure he’ll have a decent market in 3 years
i honestly think the jags about to turn it around. a solid group of coaches that know how to coach in the nfl
I think that Lawrence's best bet for success it to ride out his contract with the jags and try not to soak up too much from them, then try to do a soft reboot with another team. The problem is that he needs to have stats good enough to get traded
Hands down *THE* best channel on TH-cam!
But Alex, my boy- I need to hear the goat break down a player from my team! There’s gotta be *SOMEONE* on the Buffalo Bills worth praise or criticism! Lol.
Fr tho, appreciate the content & the consistent upload schedule! 🐐
Ahh, stop it bro, thank you! Haha fersure, if I don't get to Josh this offseason I'll 100% do him in season
I hope that the new weapons will help Trevor in his development, I also hope that Travis Etienne stays healthy, very intresting player.
That’s about to change Alex
Next year Lawrence will break out as a top 15 maybe even top 10 QB. No distractions going into the second year of consistent coaching and adding weapons like Calvin Ridley is a recipe for success
Great balanced video. Lawrence has talent. We'll see if Pederson's no true number #1, tight end heavy philosophy works. I think the defense will be improved, allowing them to run the ball more and not play from behind as much. Let's hope Lawrence doesn't feel he has to play hero ball so he can really develop.
Thanks Labrya! Yes, I'm certainly hoping so. Guess they know something that we don't about big Christian Kirk
i agree everyone is too optimistic about Trevor Lawrence while already calling Zach Wilson a bust while he's been getting better over the season
Update , jags looking solid ! Not bad for Trevor’s actually first season
Speaking about Kirk's contract. Besides the fact that it is actually a good one, when you call Free Agents and ask them to play for the Jags, you must have at least a silverlining
Trevor Lawrence's ceiling -- not the floor, but the CEILING -- with the Jaguars is Matt Stafford when he was with the Lions. A solid upper half quarterback who can look legitimately top-tier in certain seasons, but is always held back by the sheer incompetence (or insincerity) of the franchise he plays for. Of course, given how Stafford's first season outside of Detroit went, all is not doom-and-gloom for Trevor. It's just gonna be really bittersweet watching him have major team success elsewhere, whether it's 10 years from now, at the twilight of his career, or maybe even 5 years when he gets fed up of the Jags' constant self-destruction.
I think that's a great comp in terms of best case scenario. I will say however that Trevor doesn't have anybody at receiver who's ever even sniffed a pro bowl consideration and Stafford had Megatron. Evan Engram does not count
@@AlexRollinsNFL I know people were throwing Peyton rookie comparisons but there was a reason why Marvin Harrison who was a lanky outside receiver went from a project 50 catch guy in year 1 to a 100+ catch guy in year 2. Besides talent chemistry matters. In recent years not all young QBs got their dreamy star WR early on (Josh Allen didn't get Stefon Diggs till year 3 with the Bills, Kyler didn't get D-Hop till year 2 with the Cards) but if these young QBs are to ascend and reach their ceilings, they need to get comfy with great quality receiver talents. Stafford was able to get comfy going deep knowing Megatron was always a looming threat at the sidelines.
at least they have a fanbase in the UK
They need to build around their QB. They got a future hall of famer if they get behind him.
When their punter is their true MVP coz most of the time he steps on the field.

@@crewmat5013 It honestly just sucks to watch it go down like this, poor Trevor man
On the 2nd play you showed where they ran the mesh he had receiver 2 open deep, he could or just thrown up the ball with the guy about to turn he would of seen it going for him while it was leaving Lawrence’s hand
Ja’marr chase wouldn’t be this good this early if he wasn’t playing with Joe
Agreed!
Its really one of the few cases where the this 1-2 punch that did amazingly well in college linked up at the pro level within a fast time frame. Hell there were a few Burrow to Chase TD throws where that absolute chemistry manifested itself into some psychic shit.
I think they fall into the Washington category where if ownership doesn't change the cycle of obscurity will continue.
The failing is NOT on Mr.Khan, he is a great and supportive owner who has shut his mouth and opened the check book this past decade, unfortunately Mr.Khan had put his legendary trust into men who ultimately let him down.
It's not Mr. Khans fault for being overly trusting person. 😤
Until we’re good there’s gonna be an up charge to get players to come here a Taxsonville but we’re working with new coach and fairly new GM and I still have a little faith in Baalke. The past 2 drafts where he’s been at the helm have been way better than what we were getting with Dave Caldwell
Jaguars are the Factory of Sadness except without the same feature as the Browns.
I seriously think that the Jags had more talent on their roster than people think, and underperformed for some of the players they had. I think that Doug Pederson is an amazing hire and I'm happy that they went after some players in free agency opposed to what they did last year. Here's a hot take: if Pederson can get the most out of Trevor Lawrence in his sophomore year the Jaguars will be a playoffs-calibre team
That's pretty spicy there brother
that's tough. The AFC is literally an ongoing war.
Trevor Lawrence might have been the most talented QB from the 2021 draft, but Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones are in the far better situations.
Arguably right now, Davis Mills is better than him in terms of overall production with far less starts and on an even worse team
@@MINIWHEAT70 Davis Mills 100% had a better team around him last year
@@TruthLC I would say a better coached team. Not necessarily better. Mills def had better Receivers. Or atleast Receivers that would get open or were schemed open to make high % throws. Jags should have better scheme this yr. I mean the last game vs the Colts showed how good they can be with a good game plan/scheme. Now lets hope they get that every game.
@@Jaxboy86 Having someone who can get separation makes it EASIER to scheme for. Sure you can scheme to get guys better separation or have plays that work to Lawrence's timing (those triple bunches that took too long to develop are def Gase approved schemes) but the consistency of that happening won't be much against progressively better defenses. There is a reason why DeAndre Hopkins vs the rest of Cards receivers are a night and day in terms of how the pass attack stays consistent for Kyler Murray. DHop be making catches even things go off script.
@@TruthLC I can’t buy that. Lawrence still had James Robinson, albeit underutilized. Myles Jack was still there. They had a few pieces defensively. And a nice returner. All the Texans are is Brandin Cooks and who, Laremy Tunsil? Is he still even there?!
Texans were coached better, however. Looking at the Jaguars lack of separation , you would’ve thought Culley was coaching them instead of Houston, since he was the architect of the Chiefs 2014 season with zero receiving touchdowns to WRs and the Ravens three season streak of being ranked dead last in the league in passing yards per game.
Cleveland is the factory of sadness.
The Jags have had small bits of success. I remember when they had Brunell, Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell, that was a good team. MJD was as great RB and the Jags were tough back then, too, then something happened and they just could not seem to get the draft picks right. I recall when the grabbed Justin Blackmon...I thought he was gonna be great...he wasn't. Then it was a string of QB's that either had bad luck or were really not ready for the NFL. I'm wondering how bad they're gonna ruin Lawrence before he escapes to a winner.
Jaguars should never have given up on Blake Bortles in my opinion. People forget he took the Jags to the AFC championship.
Yea they gave him a contract after that season and it ended up killing us. Instead of getting Mahomes we took Leanord Fournette. Signing Bortles to an extension was our downfall hands down.
Jacksonville: Where footballs go to die.
There are plenty of Hall of Fame quarterbacks that got off to a slow start. Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning and John Elway didn't tear the league up in Year 1. His college teammate Travis Etienne 4.41 should be ready for a lot of check downs this year. Christian Kirk is a nice weapon too.
Sure, but that doesn't mean it's good to get off to a slow start. I'm rooting for Trevor, but I'm skeptical
Why did this team have to be in the city I was born in 😪 it’s been a very rough 15 years of watching them

Dude everytime he throws the ball he had a guy open
Please do a similar analysis of the Lions.
Oofff
Urban as the Jags coach set them back. A money grab. The organization needs the right PRO football leadership. Trust is the issue and talent acquisition.
If ANY football team get their lines of scrimmage issues corrected, they can scheme sub level talent to wins or at least exciting pro football.
They remind me of the 70s through the 80s old Tampa Bay Bucs. Until they got the right coach (Tony Dungy) in the 90s. If you are not old enough to remember, ask your parents.
That's exactly the problem with hiring guys like Urban, not even getting into all the dumb shit he pulled. Guys like him are rockstars at the FBS level and they don't seem to either believe or understand that those exact same plays you were running against teams you outgunned by an absurd amount of talent won't translate to the league. Sure when you where in college and you had a bunch of future NFL players rolling over a bunch of future accountants and shit with some random NFL talent thrown in here or there it's one thing, you can somewhat consistently count on your guys being able to outplay the others, but in the NFL the skill gap is significantly smaller and all of a sudden those easy windows and gimme plays don't exist any more. I honestly feel so bad for Trevor, what a waste of potential talent rotting away with that Jags org, I truly hope they can get their shit together and at the minimum allow him a chance to bloom into the player he has the potential to be... (not a Jags fan btw, just hate to see them ruining such a promising career)

trevor lawrence led the league in interceptions he tied with Matthew stafford lol trevor lawrence should be better in year I can see another slow start since because he has a new coach
In the past decade they’ve just won 5 times twice.
This can’t actually mean what I think it does. It is Florida man’s favorite team so it all evens out
and this is why I am so glad Tom Brady never played for a horrible organization.
The one play against the Tampa2 coverage wasn't a great throw by Lawrence. He leads him too far but that's also probably because Watt pushed the oline back into his face.
i don’t see how that’s a bad throw
If the Jaguars do not make the play-offs in 4 years with Lawrence. I think Trevor Lawrence should go to the Vikings or 49ers. Two football teams that actually care about winning. Staying in Jacksonville could ruin his career. Also in my opinion the Jaguars drafting Travon Walker over Evan Neal was a mistake. But I could also be wrong
The Jags know what they have in Robinson so they stuck with him at LT. Neal would have been a good pick but you aren't guaranteed hes going to be good or atleast average. So since you have your LT they went with a freak measurabled Walker. But again he better pan out lol.
Dear football 🏈 Gods we need help in Duval
🙏🙏
If they mess up big on Trevor career they will be disappointing not Trevor, the reason why is that he has super talent and every super talent needs a good supporting teammates if they dont do that the jaguars organization will be a failure NOT Trevor
I think the jags need to pull a bengals or titans and keep a mediocre coach around for like 10-20 years just to keep some stability. I understand you need results but at a certain point turning over the whole organization every 3 seasons seems counter productive if you’re still gonna go 3-14 every year
I would argue that Marvin was a really good coach who was dragged down into the Bengals BS. Hopefully Doug is the guy to change things!
@@AlexRollinsNFL that’s fair I suppose you don’t hang around for that long anywhere if you’re not a decent head coach but something along those lines is the kind of tenure Jacksonville needs, and I think Doug could be the guy if they’re willing to work with him for a few years and don’t expect that unnecessary turnaround to a play off team this year or next

Browns doing their best to compete for this after some good mojo, burning bridges with a solid but not great QB to spend tremendous draft capital on someone who probably won't play for a year and may or may not do anything useful for them.
