The Los Angeles Rams have finally fizzled out after an all in approach. Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford teamed up last year to take the Rams to the promised land, and now they’re paying for it. The offensive line is bad, the running backs are bad, the receivers are worse, everything is going wrong around the Rams offense, and there doesn’t seem to be one easy fix. Sean Mcvay has worked his magic before, can he do it again? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze the 2022 Los Angeles Rams offense.

Allan Robinson turned out to be a waste of good money. Robert Woods should NOT have been allowed to leave. Also, their RB's are complete misses and their offense doesn't favor the 'little' shifty backs, besides, none of them are really top notch anyway. The injuries are piling up, losing Bruss in the PRESEASON was a hard pill to deal with and the O-line has been a mess.
They should have used that Robinson money to grab Kareen Hunt and patch up the O-line and save a few bucks for the Odell market.

4:02 Just to give an idea of how bad the execution really is on this play. While the 49ers are known for having an elite defense this year, interior D-line is the one place where they can claim to be as injury-ravaged as the Rams (both week 1 starters out for more than half the year so far). In this case, the DTs the Rams are failing to block 2-on-1 are Kerry Hyder Jr. (#92), a backup DE playing inside for depth, and Akeem Spence (#55), a practice squad guy who's usually not even listed on the depth chart. This is the 49ers' 4th-string pair of interior D-linemen (Armstead/Kinlaw, Givens/Omenihu, Ridgeway/McGill, then these two and Jackson)

I'm assuming they have to establish a measure of trust in being able to play with the scheme. Kupp is integral in McVay running 11 personnel because he's a helluva run blocker. Take him away from the equation and the run blocking off receiver roles are even worse. Or you get Skrownek who as a receiver threat isn't much at all despite being a run blocker. It really shows how important the marquee talents in the scheme are for McVay on offense. Especially an O-line he knew wasn't going to be at the same level as last year even in the pre-season.

@@t4d0W I can see that, I think this season should be telling McVay to Trust players. TuTu's been good, Harris no chance and won't be able to get on the field for some playing time and get better because they only use him on ST.
Defenses can play the way they have been (2021-Now) because there are no burners. I think it says a lot about McVays personal choices (Also, His refusal to run the ball when it's working is Absurd), He could have not signed A-Rob, get a Pass rusher, CB, or Safety (I'm sick of Rapp) and get a LT or Guard and maybe a cheap TE.
The problem with that is He doesn't trust Atwell and Harris so, he went and got A-Rob and nothing else. Seeing Andy Reid, Kellen Moore, Shanahan, LaFleur, and Mike McDaniel
Trusting players and using their Skills and putting them in positions to be successful and develop is hurtful.

as a niner fan, I enjoy seeing this collapse, however because the Rams just got their super bowl, it's not as sweet as it could have been. Banners fly forever. 30 years from now, people will still remember the rams got their ring here. Not as many will really care that they immediately collapsed afterwards. My niners meanwhile are in danger of becoming the 90s Bills (since 2011 they've made 2 super bowls and 5 NFC title games and have nothing to show for it).
This is a cautionary tale to GMs who go all in, telling them that their window is really short and the margin for error is tiny. The Rams won 3 of their 4 playoff games each by 3 points. They very easily could have missed that ring and then this collapse would feel exponentially worse for Rams fans.

If you get your Super Bowl win, it worked. But yes, the Rams are in for lean times with cap issues, not much youth, and 'f-ck dem picks' left little to do much with in 2023. A 2nd, 3rd, and a couple 5th round picks isn't going to solve many issues. Either is free agency this offseason. The rebuild will have to start in 2024, and hope McVay with a healed Kupp-Stafford-Robinson core can recreate some magic. And truthfully, if the neck injury is causing leg numbness for Stafford, this might be it for him.

Saying the oline should know schemes from training camp and practice, well when the guy was on his couch up until 2 weeks before he starts it is hard to know assignments and obviously talent isn't there to overcome it. No NFL team is built to sustain this many injuries to 1 position group. There would be a regression but not nearly this bad if not for the historic and catastrophic injuries to the offensive line. 11 combinations in 11 games. No team is built to win with 4th string LT 6th string Guards 3rd string C, and once that group is that chaotic the rest of the offense can't gain continuity and production and it leads to more injuries. The defense has been pretty good considering the 3 and outs on offense and the knowing that their team can't score. The Rams have 10 draft picks this year and all these guys will be back from injury plus a ton of guys will have reps that would otherwise never get them. I'm still enjoying the SB win, take this year to heal up and be back in 23.

I don't know what their cap is looking like but it can't be good paying out all these huge contracts to a handful of players, trading away premium picks for years. When was their last 1st, Goff? Hard to have these top heavy rosters with a few guys making up the bulk of the cap when you don't have the draft picks to fill in with cheaper rookie contracts. At least they won a SB I guess.

Not to mention ,Jalen Ramsey dropped a pick (hit him between the numbers) that would have given the Rams possession inside the 49ers 30 yard line after Tarts drop. If you cannot protect and run the ball, you will struggle. Remember the Chiefs only scored 9 pts in the SB loss because they could not run and could not protect. Pressure gets to the QB and in his head. The Rams have a PBWR of 55% this year, never even exceeding the 65% mark.
Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson (as my top5 QBs of the last 5 seasons) led offenses score 11.2 pts per game when their offensive line has a PBWR of 60% or less. And it would even be less if you take out Brady´s number at 17.1 pts/game.
And the only QB that´s an abnormality is Burrow, whose offense scores 23 pts/game with a pass block winrate of 60% or less, which just shows how underrated he is, and how mentally tough he seems to be.

The Rams method of business was never sustainable. Yes they have their Super Bowl now, but trading away draft capital and paying aging players was eventually gonna come back to bite them. This could be The Greatest Show on Turf 2.0, where they win their Super Bowl only to follow it up with years as an NFL bottomdweller. Aaron Donald is gonna be 32 next year, Matthew Stafford will be 35, Cooper Kupp will be 30, and Jalen Ramsey has only one full season left before he hits the Big 30 as well. They're gonna be in the red on Cap Space too. Whether or not Seattle makes the postseason, they're in the best situation by a long shot, with all those draft picks they got from Denver. Pete Caroll is probably laughing is ass off watching Denver and Arizona pay hundreds of millions of dollars to watch their qbs lose all the time. The 49ers look good now, but they gave up way too much to get an expensive RB like Christian Mccaffrey. There's no way Jimmy G takes another team friendly deal next year either.

    • @skizmondo
      @skizmondo ปีที่แล้ว

      1) Seattle doesn't have the best track record on 1st round picks. Earl Thomas and Russell Okung were the kind of picks that get you fired if you dont pick them. and yes they were great. but outside of those 2 they only have 2 mediocre returns on their 1st round picks in recent history. One caveat to add is I dont include the last 2 years because they havent had enough time to develop, so I hold it neither for nor against the Seahawks which I believe is fair. BUT I will say the last two 1st rounders are looking solid. But essentially getting the return of an 8.5 sack season out of Irvin and 10 starts max in a season from Carpenter isnt exactly the greatest return on investment from 1st round picks. even their trades out of the 1st round havent exactly resulted in anything major. So while on the surface, especially with Denver's performance, the trade looks to be a fleece for the Seahawks, lets wait and see how those picks turn out. And the picks that created the Legion of Boom were by Scot McCloughan not Snyder. Geno also isnt under contract beyond this season, and should be very cautious in re-signing him.
      2) What do you mean by gave up way too much for McCaffrey? Do you mean the COMPENSATORY picks? because those are graded at a round lower than they really are. and for the 9ers they are free. we got them from the McDaniels and Saleh hirings, and another from one of our front office guys getting a GM job. so essentially they gave up a 4th, 5th, and 6th, for McCaffrey, an elite RB. Now I will argue as a 9er fan, I'm not a HUGE fan of the McCaffrey deal because of his injury history, and keeping him beyond this season will be expensive. But the results are a 4 game winning streak at the moment, with an increase in overall points per game, rushing yards per game, and yards per carry for the whole team. I've worse deals for worse players. Also, they have a QB on a rookie contract for another 2 years minimum with an option for a 3rd year. They don't have to re-sign Jimmy, he can go somewhere else and give them another compensatory pick. The 9ers also have one of the best financial wizards in terms of cap space in the form of Paraag Marathe, and the fact that the NFL's TV deal money is going to start kicking in and sky rocket the cap space doesnt exactly mean they will have to offload players soon as their contracts balloon. They balloon with the cap increase.
      3) Agreed with Arizona they are an absolute mess. top money in Hopkins, Kyler, and Kingsbury with no real results. I doubt Kingsbury is there after next season AT MOST. And we'll see how long of a leash Kyler continues to get too. he puts up numbers and makes highlights but thats about it.
      4) Conclusion.
Now im not saying Seattle isn't in a good overall position to be in. Most general managers would be doing backflips knowing they have a top 10 pick coming their way as well as their own mid to late round, WITH additional 1st round picks to come in future years. I'm just saying they have to buck their history of 1st round picks underachieving in order for this to become a homerun. AND the 9ers DO need for Lance to pan out due to the sunken cost of the 1st round picks to remain competitive.
I would essentially say that both teams are set up for success in their own ways.
9ers have an established core of both young and veteran playmakers in all phases of the game. With a young and unproven QB at the helm
Seahawks have a young, seemingly overachieving, group with some solid weapons on offense. Defense needs some work though. But the Seahawks have a seemingly bottomless supply of resources to play with in draft capital and over 50 million in cap space heading into the offseason.

Injuries, key personnel & player losses, the league figuring out their schemes, & the SB hangover. (Playing the hardest schedule didn't help) These are all the obvious things that even a blind man in a dark room could plainly see have contributed to the team's downfall. However, the problem, in my opinion, stems from another issue, one that's deeply rooted & hasn't really been explored. (To be honest, it does tie in to the SB hangover indirectly. ) When a team achieves its highest goal, in this case a Lombardy trophy, it appeases players to such an extent that they naturally "come down." Each year, when players such as Donald ,come tantalizingly close to the ultimate victory but come up short, the pressure increases & ratchets up a few notches the following year. With pressure building up year after frustrating year, something's got to give. Only a SB victory can decompress the immense pressure that players & the organization puts upon themselves. Well, last year McVay, Donald & company finally got that monkey ( probably felt more like King Kong) off their backs, which led them to an all deserving partying celebration that lasted months after the final whistle blew. The problem is, where & where does one know when to stop partying & start concentrating on the upcoming year? If experience is your teacher & you've never experienced this before, when does one change back into predator mode & get ready to hunt? With Donald contemplating retirement & McVay immersing himself with grandeur thoughts of calling NFL games from the booth for beaucoup $, you could see trouble brewing. Sure, they decided to stay on board, but they may have taken time lightly. One can not turn on the urgency light switch & expect to yield the same results it had in seasons past. If the mental aspect is a good portion of preparation, then conditioning is the key to success. If your mind isn't as sharp as it's been in the past or where it needs to be, you're goal won't come into focus as clearly as it would have if you were still "hungry." With the normal timetable of conditioning being neglected to a certain degree, injuries are more prone to happen. Teams under McVay from 2017-20, the injury bug was hardly a factor. 2021 after winning it all, it's a Mash unit on the field. It may be a safe assumption to blame these injuries to lack of proper mental & physical conditioning & the time required to putting it in full force. I know I may get some opposing views, but I'll leave you with this last question: Do you think the Rams would have suffered these rash injuries at a epidemically rate had they not won it all?
