Kayak Jump Shooting Geese On The River

  • Jump shooting geese on the river is always an adventure and this hunt was no exception. With early goose season winding down here in Virginia we headed out to a new stretch of river to see what wildlife we would find. It was a long float but we saw plenty of canadas, woodies, and teal to keep the adrenaline flowing throughout. Unfortunately I made a stupid decision on the last jump shot of the day which left me with some regrets but I'll use it as a learning moment and make sure to avoid that mistake in the future. Hope you enjoy!

    These videos are awesome! I mentioned in a comment before about how the Oldtown Topwater 120 would be ideal for this. Consider reaching out to Oldtown and see if you can get a kayak in exchange for making a couple of videos. I've partnered with them on 4 different kayaks for my fishing channel. You'll get to keep the kayak.

    Thomas have you ever given thought to a gun rack across your kayak, like on the front bars of a 4 wheeler, you could put one for your gun and one for your paddle.

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Self restraint and patience takes time but experiences like this makes you reflect and learn pretty quickly. Good on you for showing your mistake. That's one of the best things about hunting - some days your quarry might outsmart you, and you must accept it and marvel at nature's ability to do so. It would only take away from the experience if it was easy!

    If I could offer some constructive criticism - nearly all US based waterfowling channels start every hunt video with the same variation on a theme, namely: The birds are coming in, the gun goes up, the screen turns black, we hear the shot. It's a bit overdone, to put it mildly.

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's certainly a fair point and something I'll keep in mind. I like the hook it creates but it is increasingly overdone so might have to change it up

      @@HokeOutdoorsyes Sir! I think I enjoy your videos so much because alot of your spots remind me of my spots and we both hunt solo for the most part both our styles are alot alike. Waterfowl hunting itself always has a learning curve add a camera to the mix I can only imagine!
      I live in Ohio and this will be my first year targeting divers on Lake Eries big water got my boat and all my stuff ready going to be yet another learning experience I'm excited!

    Did you notice that early season is better in the mornings or afternoon? Here in pa we are doing alot of the same style floats but better luck in the afternoons

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems mornings and afternoons are about the same down here because so few fields are cut most these birds just stay on the river all day. How have the floats gone for y'all so far this season?

    • @northeastwildernesswalker
      @northeastwildernesswalker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HokeOutdoors started out slow did alot of scouting mostly to see where and when they are hanging out seems like the big flocks up here disappear in the early season we did a 20 mile float 1st day and got 2 on the susquehanna

    This video just proves that you don’t need hundreds of dollars worth of camo to kill ducks

    • @HokeOutdoors
      @HokeOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I think camo makes it tougher to get close to birds when floating early in the season. They're seen so many fisherman that being in regular clothes make you seem unthreatening
