How to Fix the Steering - 1989 Bayliner 3888 MV

This was not the fun kind of adventure on our newly purchased 1989 Bayliner 3888 MV. We were out for our first night at anchor a couple of hours away from our home port when the steering on the fly bridge went completely out. But we limped back to our slip and Mike went to work soon after.

Today's video is much more technical, but hopefully it can help anyone who is fixing their own steering. Mike is the king of DIY. We'll try to get him to star in more videos soon, because there's always something to fix on a boat!

I got a 3888 a few months ago too & lost flybridge steering bringing her home to Santa Barbara from San Diego...after watching this video I now think I had a bubble going on...

I have a 1988 Bayliner Avanti. The steering mechanism looks similar if not identical. I lost steering at one point. There was an oily greasy mess under the helm, I though was some bird or something. I cleaned it up and didn't give it another thought. Then I discovered my steering was inoperable the next time I tried it. My boat only has the one steering wheel and with the outboards turned, it was impossible to control. Is there more info on this mechanism? What model is it? Any idea how to get the dash off around it? Any other help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Lol. It's a Bayliner. Hang a rudder of the rear if the bolts will hold in the transom
