Even Morissette's standard, this concert is way above that. Her vocals..possessed is the word. The best I have ever heard! I have listened to this whole concert over 40 times already. You brought up her "compression". I've paid close attention to her vocal and artistic progression for a few years now. She has tons of nuance in the vocal chord closure skills. She's got a lot more grey area between those light sounds, those medium sounds, and those heavy sounds than most vocalists I've come across. Hers is one, long, gray spectrum, from the lightest to heaviest sounds, with no gaps in the compression skills. She can go from any volume, any timbre variation, any distortion, any vowel - you pick it, she can do it. With that kind of arsenal in her "toolbox", she gets to experiment A LOT stylistically and add "drama" to her vocals, as she's done with this Bruno Mars Medley. Sometimes, she will do things with her voice that are a bit "extra" and almost unnecessary, but that's what makes her distinct, imo. I would love for you to react to her latest single, "WILL YOU STAY" (live version, with a band, and she's sporting braids) - probably the best demonstration of her vocal refinement as of now. Great reaction as usual!
