Welcome to The 2023 New Janky Workshop Shop Tour! Wanted to squeeze in one for this year before it was too late! In my home shop here, I do woodworking, metalworking, leatherworking, laserworking, and a lot more. A lot is always changing around the shop. For instance, that big fancy shop in Hudson, MA? That is no longer. It was just too big and fancy. So, started to double up at the home shops here, and got a few new tools, changed around the configuration quite a bit... just have a watch and see! 🛠️ *Tools and Supplies* Tools and supplies shown in this tour: kit.co/TheNewJankyWorkshop/the-new-janky-workshop-2023-tool-list 🙃 *Products, Plans & Merch* geni.us/tnjw ✅ *Related Videos* 👉 Patio and Firepit Build - Part 1: th-cam.com/video/JXSjIW-5Xjk/w-d-xo.html 👉 Patio and Firepit Build - Part 2: th-cam.com/video/M64BL7ZJXV4/w-d-xo.html 👉 Table Saw Caddy: th-cam.com/video/MCXWqX9c_hE/w-d-xo.html 👉 Clamp Rack: th-cam.com/video/ZHJ-cBURzQY/w-d-xo.html 👉 Hammer Rack: th-cam.com/video/95kOCHBXrDU/w-d-xo.html 👉 Destroying an Office to Make a Wood Shop: th-cam.com/video/vdMkCVFAdDI/w-d-xo.html 👉 Ski Rack: th-cam.com/video/PtKHOBk5ap4/w-d-xo.html 👉 Small Basement Workshop Solutions - Part 1: th-cam.com/users/shortsWDTYHAtwyRk 👉 Glowforge Exhaust: th-cam.com/video/0T4uX0ja01g/w-d-xo.html 👉 Adam Savage First Order Retrievability: th-cam.com/video/TWQAYfGxsPE/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/vyCrHLYiGNo/w-d-xo.html 👉 Watch previous shop tour videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLSkvrm-RbSKEy_Eti5FWcCdLXdF1COM4e.html 📱 *Follow me* www.patreon.com/thenewjankyworkshop instagram.com/TheNewJankyWorkshop facebook.com/TheNewJankyWorkshop www.tiktok.com/@newjankyworkshop www.youtube.com/@TheNewJankyWorkshop 📧 *Mailing List* Join my mailing list to be notified about new videos, merch, and general information from time to time: geni.us/jankymail 🎵 *Music* Music used in this video from Epidemic Sound: share.epidemicsound.com/1wce2u ⚠️ *DISCLAIMER* My videos are for entertainment purposes only, your safety is your responsibility. I love how you’ve got everything so accessible yet organized in its own way. It’s like controlled chaos, and it clearly works for you. Plus, having your wife’s stuff there too gives it such a personal touch!
Thank you! Yes, it is definitely a controlled chaos. And some times, things do end up in the ether (but it allows for a later discovery) ;) Since I am mostly a hobbyist (although commission work does keep me busy). I get the chance to also build a lot of stuff for my wife's business. My long term goal is to work for her full time. She can take all the space she needs (and she thinks that the stuff I do is cool... which helps!). Thanks for watching!
It’s cool to see a space that’s actually being used, not just shown off for the camera. You can tell everything has its place and purpose. This is how a real workshop should look, full of life and projects.
Thank you. I agree! Although some of the cleaner shops I have seen also see a lot of real work in them. I guess its just a matter of preference. I tend to lean towards the Jimmy DiResta/Adam Savage/Laura Kampf camp of "I need all my stuff, and I need it around me." :)
This is such an honest and relatable tour. It’s refreshing to see someone who doesn’t try to pretend their workspace is always spotless. Real workshops are meant to be messy because they’re meant to be used! Keep up the great work.
Thank you, and thanks for subscribing as well! A little history on the name (blatantly copied and pasted from a similar comment on this video - I can't plagiarize myself, can I?): Little history on that, eons ago, long before I got into woodworking, I used to manage the website for The New Yankee Workshop. Been out to the workshop itself several times, got to hang out with Russ Morash, and if you remember it, even had lunch in The Victory Garden kitchen once or twice :)
@@TheNewJankyWorkshop that’s really cool. Funny. It seems like a lot of IT guys get into woodworking/making. I guess getting to work with your hands a bit.
Definitely. I've always been more than a computer jockey thankfully. Circumstances aligned a few years back for me to be able to really lean into making, and very glad that I did.
Jeff it was fun meeting you this weekend. I am blownaway by the amount of creative capacity you have in your home. That is just stupendous! You and Emely are certainly a power couple and forces of nature. I am inspired!
The way you made use of every square inch of your space is impressive. From the overhead storage to the rolling carts, everything seems to have a purpose even if it's not super polished. It’s clear you’re more about function than form, and I respect that.
It either needs to have a function, or be something aesthetically pleasing. I like to look around and fish for ideas and inspiration as I need it. It's like my own little tree fort loaded with materials and power tools. :)
I have built several shops over the years. I finally learned my lesson with the last one. INSULATE FIRST!! If you move a couple of tools in and plan to do it later, you will start to hang a few things on the wall to get them out of the way, and before you know it, your walls are covered and you will never get around to the insulation because you will have to empty and move everything. Individual results may vary, but this is how my life works. Great shop, great videos!!
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the kudos. Yes, I definitely should have insulated first. I might start to get around to doing that as fall rolls around. Now that I have 220 readily available in the shop (had some electrical upgrades done this spring), I might get a beefy shop heater, which will make it more tolerable in the winter. When I started this journey, I didn't know I'd end up here, so here I am years later, with my walls completely covered (as you can see...) The long term plan is to renovate the space above the shop into an office/spare room, and then everything will get ripped out, insulated, drywalled, etc. Thanks again!!
Whoa! That retractable air hose system is genius! Definitely adding that to my list of upgrades for the future. Super convenient for getting around without lugging things everywhere.
I freaking love retractable hoses. I can reach everything from one place in the shop, and that is what I need! If I ever need air in other places in the shop, I can think about plumbing some hose, but for right now, this seems to work pretty decent for what I need. Thanks for watching!

Shawshank Janky The LIKE button was crowded because the box you left out didn't have enough room for all the LIKES, I was pleased when my LIKE added to the pile......at least there is some hope. I, as well as others, shall return and we hope to see you come to your senses ( well actually no...take that back.....What woodworker passionate about gluing could be accused of having sense?) Nevertheless,....Get this ship out of shape in the New Year, Wishing you and all the Subscribers good health, happiness, and fine saw dust all over your clothes and ears in the New Year.
I would come up with a witty response, but my wife (who appreciated the reminder about the lamp...) said it best "that was the single best comment in the history of comments". I concur. I am however a bit miffed that I now have to move the fixing of the lamp back to the top of the pile. Thank you sir for watching, liking, and subscribing. It is much appreciated. p.s. The LIKE button was crowded because the box you left out didn't have enough room for all the LIKES, I was pleased when my LIKE added to the pile......at least there is some hope.
I, as well as others, shall return and we hope to see you come to your senses ( well actually no...take that back.....What woodworker passionate about gluing could be accused of having sense?) Nevertheless,....Get this ship out of shape in the New Year,
Wishing you and all the Subscribers good health, happiness, and fine saw dust all over your clothes and ears in the New Year.
It is much appreciated.
p.s. I'll try to do better! Or worse! Which one is it?!

Always a good call :)
Sorry but this workshop looks too messy for me 💀
To their their own. I just like to be surrounded with everything I need, and inspiration everywhere. But that is just my preference. Thanks for watching!
Love the janky style, it’s so authentic!
Thank you, much appreciated :)
