Hello all. Thank you DrDalyO for this and more great tutorials! I also had the same error as many have mentioned here. The error goes like, "Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of ... Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65." The solution is to select your concrete part and modify the mesh by doing the following: (1) right click on mesh, (2) select "method", and change the method to "multizone". Apparently SOLID65 elements should have such shape.
That's a very nice video. There are not many RC examples done in Workbench. After some time, I was able to come up with a similar model (including command blocks), but it's really good to see we are on the same track! Keep up the good work and thank you! Igor
Actually, I am analysing RC structures subjected to fire, which is basically this, but extended for higher temperatures (material data, linked thermal and structural analysis, etc). We shall definitely stay in touch :)
Hi, and thanks for putting up your concrete modeling videos. One comment on the static structural model that you have developed: Viewers should note that the coupling connection between nodes reinforcing rods and concrete by node coupling works only because of the element sizes and placement of the rods in the concrete block. You have done it so that you have coincident nodes in the elements of the concrete block and of the rods. Users will need to ensure that they use low-order bricks so that the SOLID65 bricks can be substituted. It will take more work for the "general case" in which the concrete is carved up into a multibody part so that reinforcing bars can be placed along edges of the bodies that are the concrete. With mesh density controls along the edges that are shared between the line bodies of the reinforcing bars and the concrete blocks, it should be possible to have coincident nodes that can be coupled with reinforcing bar locations that are not quite as restrictive. I am impressed with how smoothly and quickly you are able to present. Nice piece of work!

And then a warning that: 'One or more bodies may be underconstrained and experiencing rigid body motion. Weak springs have been added to attain a solution. Refer to Troubleshooting in the Help System for more details.' Can you please help me? I suspect either the command files are incorrect or something else. I have redone your exact steps multiple times and still get errors. Thanks Dr.
DrDalyO, I had previously tried out this tutorial during my PhD, but I was using APDL. I can provide some comments here, but I also have questions. 1) Your concrete stress-strain graph for concrete plateaus at peak strength but the real graph for concrete shows strain softening. As I know, v12 - v14 cannot model strain softening and I think that's why you had used the plateau here. Is the only workaround for this is to use Explicit Analysis? 2) Why was strain softening able to be modelled in v10 and earlier? Were v10 and earlier using a different solver or was that an ANSYS coding error? 3) What are the limitations in Workbench (WB) that requires one to revert back to using (parts of) APDL on certain situations? 4) Wasn't WB supposed to replaced APDL, so why do those limitations still exist in v18? Thanks.
Thank you DrDalyO for the video! Sir, Are the commands used in this video applicable for lateral reinforcement as well? If not, what commands are to be changed ?
One correction in the video the Solid65 and Link180 do not define the material, These are the element type that ANSYS will consider while solving the equations.

Hello, very nice demonstration. have you tried modeling a beam with cold joint? if the cold joint of the beam is inclined, how do you model an inclined surface how do you bond the two concrete surfaces? thank you very much
Thank you DrDaylO for the video . I'm new to Ansys and Is it possible to model and analyze the above without the command blocks? Also, Is it possible to include bond strength between rebar and concrete in the analysis ?? Thanks.

This tutorial is awesome. Thank you so much. I have 1 question, did you ever calculate rc beam strenght by FRP sheet? I want to solve this problem using ANSYS, using analytical method and in natural experiment. So Im open for all advices))
''Node 4 does not lie on or near the selected elements. The CEINTF operation produced no results for this node." I have this warning... do you have any idea what is happening?
Thankyou Dr Dalyo for the well explained tutorial, although when I tried to replicate the things some errors are appearing like- "one or more bodies may be underconstrained and experiencing rigid body motion. Weak springs have been added to attain a solution." Please tell me if you have any idea about how to overcome such error. Thanks
+rishabh shotri im not sure if this resolves that error, but i remember that i did forget to drop element midside nodes i believe when recording. Check the comments, someone else posted about it. If doesnt help, post another comment here
I am sorry, I didn't understand, I mean what exactly "drop element midside nodes" means. I do have checked for other comments, but unable to find the solution to the error. Thanks
it is excellent video. sir i want to make tapered rcc beam or haunched beam so how to give non linear section to the beam and how to make model and how to give material like concrete and rebar
sir , Can you make video on drop weight impact analysis on reinforced concrete slab/ beam and also crack pattern analysis. Really appreciate it. Thank you.
Hi sir, thank you for your demonstration. i tried to model a slab with rebar using this method for my research but an unknown error is showing. it would be helpful for me if you could upload a video about modeling a simply supported slab in ANSYS 17.2 Thank you
Thanks, DrDalyo. I met this problem 'Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65. Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of type 1 exist.' It seems when solid65 tries to override Structural Steel, it fails. Do you have any idea about how to fix it?
Thank you for the grat example, sir. I repeated it step by step and received the same results, which is good. But i couldn't receive the stress in the rebar. Is it possible in this way?
+Techcrafter You would need to use more command objects do get these results. I probably should have included this in the tutorial. In the Solution(A6), right click and add command object, insert the following code to see axial force and stress results for the beams: /SHOW,PNG /VIEW,1,1,1,1 allsel ESEL,S,ENAME,,180 ETABLE,Force,SMISC, 1 ETABLE,Sxx-i,LS,1 ETABLE,Sxx-j,LS,2 PLETAB,Force PLLS,Sxx-i,Sxx-j allsel
Hi..... I got the force and stress results but cannot interpret its meaning. Are these von-mises stresses or axial stresses? Also what are the units of these forces and stresses?
Hello sir, I've recently started working in ANSYS Workbench 19.0. I used the APDL commands you have specified with minor changes in the stress and strain, but the deformation is very low when compared to the experimental data. The rebar commands are not influencing the model. It doesn't show any error when I comment Young's modulus or I increase the value exponentially. Could you please help me in this?
I tried to reproduce your model sir. I changed the rebar young's modulus to 2e10. I can find no changes in the result, Sir. Kindly help me in this. This would greatly help me in my model progress.
Please tell me how to fix this error.."AN unknown error occurred during solution. Check the Solver Output on the Solution Information object for possible causes".???
Thank you for this tutorial, it's help me a lot to use ANSYS Workbench. But i don't understand one thing, why you use the commend APDL for stress-strain relationship, and didn't put them in engineering data? Can i put the stress-strain relationship in engineering data? because i have to model a frame under lateral loads
Thank you Dr.Dalyo very much for the video. I used the geometry file from your last video since it includes shear reinforcement in it. I changed the APDL code for rebar by changing the radius of the rebar appropriately. But I get an error,"Node 1578 belongs to element 124. The CEINTF operation will not consider this node/element combination" and this error continues to the rest of the nodes. Can you please help me ? Should I change the APDL code elsewhere or if else where should I ? Would be much appreciated if you could help me ?
+Sivaraman Kiran It might be because the mesh nodes do not line up nicely with the rebar. try to space the rebar evenly, so when you go to create a mesh, the element size will be a multiple of the rebar spacing so the nodes will line up. if the rebar nodes and the concrete mesh nodes are not close, you might get errors.
Hello Sir, I am new to ansys and i am trying to model circular concrete column with biaxial bending. While defining the concrete material as per the apdl commands I am getting an error as, "Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65. Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of type 1 exist". Also, if I am to model 3D reinforcement, please can you guide me with the commands for rebar as solid65. Please guide me asap
thank u Dr for ur interesting kindly I want to ask what about pretension prestressed concrete or posttension concrete its possible to modeling it by ansys ? and if we did hole through the concrete and but in these hole beam element as tendon and bonded between them it will work ?
+Ahmed Al-dean i am not familiar with pretension or prestressed elements for this example sorry. It should be possible, please see the ansys help online.
Hi, for link180 element the radius assigment via a real constant is not supported from 14 and later. Instead of you should use SECTYPE and SECDATA commands
Thank you sir for uploading this video. I have doubt in concrete slab testing i analyse a slab with reinforcement and without reinforcement but the result for the both model is same. Sir pls help me in that problem
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a question. How to match the nodes of concrete and the ones of rebars, if the rebars are positioned random in the section? Thanks!
How can we find out shear force and bending moment diagram for a simply supported beam with some load? Hoping for a suggestion from you sir. Thanks in advance.
Hi, want to ask. If i click the solution for maximum principle stress, the impactor is moving out from the body (concrete). why? can we lock it so that it cannot move?
Dear Dr, for Ansys 2021 R2, can we use the same method to assign the element type and material model as shown in this video? I mean you assign command for each of the geometry element. Thank you
Where can i get these infos which are included in Command file ? Must commands be added for like these analysis? Why did we enter that? I'm looking forward for the answers. Very educating video. Thanks sir !
Dear Dr. DalyO, good day, as per your above tutorial, I inserted a command for selection of element type (SOLID185)as follow:ET,MATID,SOLID185 R,MATID,0,0,0,0,0,0 RMORE,0,0,0,0,0 MP,EX,MATID,28000 MP,PRXY,MATID,0.2, but I got the following error message:Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID185. Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of type 1 exist. What is the problem here?
I have a problem my geometry is complex so it's a tetra mesh is there any way to use the same command the solve is give me error because of concrete elements
Sir,I have a doubt.solid65 element is used for concrete . It is used for all grades like m25, m30 and so on....so how could I particularly use it for a specific grade?should I have to alter it's command
Hello all. Thank you DrDalyO for this and more great tutorials! I also had the same error as many have mentioned here. The error goes like, "Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of ... Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65." Apparently SOLID65 elements should have such shape.

you are right they are element types than can then later carry material definitions

The CEINTF
operation produced no results for this node." I have this warning... do you have any idea what is happening?
how to model stirrups
in RC beam
Thanks
Go to Mesh->Defaults->Element Midside Nodes-> Program Controlled/Dropped/Kept
it is excellent video. sir i want to make tapered rcc beam or haunched beam so how to give non linear section to the beam and how to make model and how to give material like concrete and rebar
sir , Can you make video on drop weight impact analysis on reinforced concrete slab/ beam and also crack pattern analysis. Really appreciate it.
Thank you.
I almost do the same thing, "more than 1 element in at least 2 direction are present."
I have this problem ,could you help me out?
Great video, thanks
DR. DalyO i would like to know that how we can do the modal analysis with the help of simply supported beam in ANSYS
hello Sir ,can you kindly tell me what is the impactor you are talking about? Is it load?Aso will the be same for all RCC structure?
Meaning the location of where the load is applied
I think to avoid error in solution as appear when use solid65 for beam models , should choose dropped mesh for element midside nodes
Hi sir,
thank you for your demonstration.
i tried to model a slab with rebar using this method for my research but an unknown error is showing.
it would be helpful for me if you could upload a video about modeling a simply supported slab in ANSYS 17.2
Thank you
hey dr thanks for this useful tutorial i just want to know that how to expand the symmetry to view the full beam
thanks and regards
Thanks, DrDalyo. I met this problem 'Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID65. Switching to a different shape is not allowed while elements of type 1 exist.' It seems when solid65 tries to override Structural Steel, it fails. Do you have any idea about how to fix it?
Hi, I can see concrete material in Ansys workbench 2023. Is it okay to assign that concrete to my reinforced concrete beam?
Awesome video! Thanks a lot. But I have a problem, how could we analyze the prestressed concrete beam in Ansys Workbench?
Thank you for the grat example, sir. I repeated it step by step and received the same results, which is good. But i couldn't receive the stress in the rebar. Is it possible in this way?
+Techcrafter You would need to use more command objects do get these results. I probably should have included this in the tutorial. In the Solution(A6), right click and add command object, insert the following code to see axial force and stress results for the beams:
/SHOW,PNG
/VIEW,1,1,1,1
allsel
ESEL,S,ENAME,,180
ETABLE,Force,SMISC, 1
ETABLE,Sxx-i,LS,1
ETABLE,Sxx-j,LS,2
PLETAB,Force
PLLS,Sxx-i,Sxx-j
allsel
+DrDalyO It worked for me, thanks!
Hi..... I got the force and stress results but cannot interpret its meaning. Are these von-mises stresses or axial stresses? Also what are the units of these forces and stresses?
hi i also repeated it step by step but i didn't receive the same results. Techcrafter could you please help me on this ??
Hi Friend,
I want to add properties of Fe250 steel and M30 concrete ....can u show me where to change the commands.....
Try making large material changes to the rebar commands, see if there is an effect on the results. There should be. If not please let me know.
I tried to reproduce your model sir. I changed the rebar young's modulus to 2e10. I can find no changes in the result, Sir. Kindly help me in this. This would greatly help me in my model progress.
Dear sir,
Please can I get your email ID?
Sir I am following step by step but the commands are not working
+DrDalyO thank u very much for ur valuable video as well as ur response. Much appreciated for u work on Ansys
Hello Sir,
I am new to ansys and i am trying to model circular concrete column with biaxial bending.
If we model reinforcement by slicing the concrete material and provide a bounded contact with the concrete, would it be right ?
plz once make a video on anysys 18.1.. RCC beam and also provide links for codes of materials used
Thank you sir for uploading this video.
Fatigue analysis in abaqus using beam model
Dear Dr, for Ansys 2021 R2, can we use the same method to assign the element type and material model as shown in this video? I mean you assign command for each of the geometry element. Thank you
Where can i get these infos which are included in Command file ?
Must commands be added for like these analysis? Why did we enter that?
I'm looking forward for the answers. Very educating video. Thanks sir !
please see the description of the video for the command file. Yes they must be added in workbench, if you use APDL then you can do it there also.
Can you please show how to add stirrups in the beam? Thanks
Am getting an error messege, says tb,plas is no longer supported for solid 65 element.
+Vishnu SNair what ansys version are you running?
Dear Dr. DalyO, good day, as per your above tutorial, I inserted a command for selection of element type (SOLID185)as follow:ET,MATID,SOLID185
R,MATID,0,0,0,0,0,0
RMORE,0,0,0,0,0
MP,EX,MATID,28000
MP,PRXY,MATID,0.2, but I got the following error message:Element type 1 is not the same shape as SOLID185. Switching to a
different shape is not allowed while elements of type 1 exist. What is the problem here?
Hello did you solve this problem can u help me?
If we did not want to use command file then how we will give bond property b/w concrete and reinforcement bars ???? Plz explain it
Sir I am doing transient structural analysis, I am confronting with convergence error. Can you help me in resolving it?
hi dear Dr DalyO how can I access to the word file of " modeling of reinforced concrete beam by nguyen ???could you put the related link thank you
2021 R1 workbench allows to define MISO tabular data for the material. Does that mean using APDL command isn't necessary?
Thank you DrDaylO for the video .
An unknown error occurred during solution: "your product license has numerical problem size limits"??
sir..plz give tutorial on analysis of column strengthened by angle steel shapes and strips using ansys workbench
Hi have a good day sir,
How can I obtain the value of the bending angle occurring at the support points of the beams.
