absolutely. I have some great brushes that are less expensive, and my goal is to review tons of them. But as a premium product this is definitely not in the overpriced category. I find the price range to be a bit more on the reasonable side.. when you push north of 400.00 even as a pro I start to question if i can justify that purchase.
ive been buying up a lot of things.. and I honestly should have done it when they first came out.. as mentioned elsewhere. I had an olympos micron (the original) and felt I didnt need this.. however I never liked the cup. The olympos has a .2 needle (like the cmc+ actually but a little finer. This has a .18 like the cm sb. However this has a longer taper so in theory this is finer than an iwata micron. In reality you would be very very hard pressed to tell the difference. It is finer than my olympos but were splitting hairs at that point. This is a bit more comfortable to use than the olympos because of the cup. :)
Thanks for the reply and added info! I started playing around last September with the talon full set. Dropped it while cleaning and it landed on the rear of the needle, punching a chip out out of the .38 nozzle. I was mortified but lived through the lesson. So I put together the .25 needle/nozzle and been having a good time with it. Still learning a lot but no matter what I've tried it's still hard to get down to the tiny details with it's size limitations
@@bravensbull4405 ouch! its one reason I keep the handles on... and do NOT like the needle exposed out the back at all. Blowing a needle and nozzle out is not a good time at all. I dont drop them often, but it does happen.
I just bought one of these but haven't had a chance to try it out--hopefully this weekend. I understand what you're talking about when you say the response is excellent as it's the same thing I find with my Olympos Microns vs. my Iwata CM-C Micron, one of the reasons being that Olympos needles have a longer, finer taper than Iwata needles. I also just recently got an Olympos MP-200B (same as an Iwata CM-B) so I have that to compare to the PS-771. Same as you I've read nothing but rave reviews about the 771--so I had to get one!
yeah I held off.. Because I have an olympos. But mines a C and i was not ever really happy with the cup. So now this ones in my collection to stay a while id imagine :)
@@TheAIRspace What was wrong with cup? The usual issue from what I've read Is poor chrome plating. Yep, the C model is what I've got, 2 of them, both are are perfect, no chrome probs.. Also have an SP-B, 0.18mm, great little detail airbrush! I mostly work on leather jackets so I rarely need any larger guns...the largest I've got is an LPH-50.
you would be very very hard pressed to notice a difference between this and a .18 converted CMC+ which would be iwatas equivelent. The normal cmc+ comes with a .23 nozzle and the CMB and SB come with a .18 If anything this is just slightly finer than the closest iwata match.. With that said Iwata is an awesome company, done a lot for the industry as well. And makes a stellar product with a huge distribution network so i wont knock them for their pricing much. But as a consumer like everyone else.. my money went here.... Now Im seriously considering one of the new side feeds iwata is coming out with.because curiosity will kill me.
well the 290 is the fan pattern airbrush, which i have reviewed. And its a great little gun. You probably mean the 289 and 270. I have the 270 not the 289 but its on my list of things to acquire :) Im going to look at a couple more airbrushes in the next couple months, It gets expensive since I pay for these out of pocket.. so it does take some time :)
great review! the only negative that came to my mind about this ab is the volume of the paint cup, just wish it could shrink down about half of its current size
this size cup has seemed to be the dominant size for some time. It does suprise me they do not make more b size cup airbrushes. Especially for detail airbrushes like these. Being I have become accustomed to this size on most airbrushes i own, i never think about it much anymore.
@@TheAIRspace agreed, and when i look up at the volume of wallet, the cup size doesn't matter anymore... it almost looks like iwata and mr.hobby had an agreement like: ok, you can use this part and this blah blah, but no no, dont ever ever touch my perfect cup size! 😂
Hi Bill I have just ordered this airbrush direct from SprayGunner. Can you please explain the red thumb guard you use in this demo. Not sure if that's what it is. Those are trigger happy airbrush grips, and I found myself really liking them. I do not have a link for them. However in a couple of weeks we will be getting lots more fresh content, in the meantime there is a pile of videos you can go through! Thank you!
my good friend Michelle gave me that grip at Tamco Takeover. They were giveaways Trigger Happy sent her with. Something I sort of dismissed as not needed.. then i got some. Now im gonna have to order a bunch for my brushes. I dont have a link off my head but you can google trigger happy airbrush grips. :)
I own two PS-771, no negatives. Is it a copy of Iwata? No, PS-771 and CM-C are both derived from Olympos. GSI and Iwata are the same patent, the same factory, different contracting authority.
I have never heard a negative from anyone who has one. Definitely a top tier manufacturer.. their platinum series airbrushes are quality too. As well as their 290 which i also own. Thanks! And yes owning an original olympos I am very familiar where the head design came from :)
@@faktografik5661 The 270 is a fantastic brush, and I have done some VERY small paintings with it. If I recall I used it on the BEE Tutorial for the tiny lines in the wings as well. The heads are similiar but not the same. The 771 /770 are shorter. Both atomize very well. The 770 just a little finer. And really few would notice the difference in fine lines between them. The 771 is just that little bit more responsive. I can theorize that is due to the tube being shorter, however Im NOT an engineer. But I can feel a slight difference. Also there is a tension adjustment in the spring housing of the 771. I usually adjust mine a bit on the firmer side, but many like to make that as soft as possible. The 270 is truly a bargain priced high quality airbrush, capable of very fine details. Where the 770 is a non compromise high detail airbrush. I am fortunate I dont have to pick ONE. But if your looking for the absolute precision of the upper tier, the 770 falls in there with anything else out there. Obviously some people have preferences and will have differing opinions on the "best" But this is certainly one of.
the upside over the olympos would be the cup position is better than the c cup olympos micron, and of course this has a mac valve. not to mention its getting expensive shipping out of japan here. Ive had an olympos mp200c a long time it was actually given to me when I was fairly new to the game. I used it a LONG time.

So I got up, played my guitar in my underpants, you know, like ya do. at 7 headed down to the dungeon and fired up the compressor. All I can say is WOW! First off my test were done the way I like to work. White on black hard surface, Which we a know what a pain in the ass white can be.Trigger response was instant. Whose mike 😅. If I were inclined to doing tees on any regular basis.. which I have before . I would be mostly using a handful of bottle feed brushes. This is a stellar airbrush, but I would never need that level of detail on a t shirt. My choice for solid t shirt work would be the bottle feed eclipse. A badger anthem for the really large script stuff and broad work.
Hey Bill my 771 isnt running right.. You know that little piston is there an o ring that goes in that place where the piston goes? It seems like i get so little air coming out.?? Thaknks
Make sure the final needle cap doesn’t have debris in it. When you take it off you should easily tell of your getting enough air. However the airflow will be reduced in comparison to some other airbrushes. Say compared to my eclipse
First, I really appreciate your videos. I just look for honest opinions (harder and harder to find). Bummed PS771 is out of stock everywhere. Should be in soon. Not telling where because I am already worried how fast it will disappear. You are saying the same thing I am hearing from all the reviewers I actually respect: this is an airbrush that does fine detail extremely well and the way it blends and feels is just smooth. Its not likely to be someone's "main" airbrush... its the detail airbrush. Just what I want. Again, thanks.
I want to get one airbrush that will sort of do it all. Prime my minis, base coat and do some detail work. If i use airbrush flow improver will good quality primer spray ok through this or will it constantly get clogged?
This is definitely not the do it all airbrush. It’s a fine detail brush Check my reviews on the ps 289 Or the iwata eclipse for a do most everything airbrushes
So I'm a broke painter, and I have an hp-cs, and a 290. I want something for detail next, and I can't afford more than one brush. I was set on the 270, but now I see this review lol. If you had to choose one of those two, which one are you taking? I assume this one after the review
Buy the 270 amzn.to/3I8cHEm (aff link) Its an incredible value. And while the 771 is stellar, i sold it. Not because its not fabulous.. but I also own a micron. And the two MOST USED airbrushes I own are the Eclipse and the 270. Just because the 270 plays a little nicer with thicker paint. If you absolutely feel you need the finest precision sure get the 771. if not get the 270 and save the pennies for later. As a side note the 270 can take the 771 head and with that and the 771 needle and packing screw you could upgrade later. Whether that makes financial sense or not depends on price im sure. I have no real justification from turning you from a more expensive purchase.. i just know if you can avoid the "gotta have them all disease" that i have the 270 is a fabulous choice.
@@TheAIRspace that was an awesome response! I'll bookmark this video, and when this batch of lures is sold I'll use your link. It's the least I can do for the rock solid advice!
You would be extremely hard pressed to notice a difference between this and a custom micron. The only reason I could see one considering it, is if you wanted a side feed or a B cup. The Micron SB is going away, and their new replacement will be out next month. But at the cost, i imagine it may be some time before I can review one.
I think you made an error, the Needle limiter, at least on mine isn't plastic, it's just blackened metal, like gun bluing... the inside of mine is slightly shiny from needle rub. other than that great review. I've had mine for about a Year now, love it... Just wonder it GSI Creos is planning on coming out with a side feed version.. I would snap up one of those without thinking about it for sure.
i cant correct inside the video.. but I pinned a comment about that.. it is indeed not plastic. TBH that was something I heard and really just assumed and payed no attention to it when i bought it. I literally noticed the error the day i posted the video. Actually looking at the thumbnail i have 770 instead of 771 listed on that too :/ Thanks!
It's ok I cannot stand the resistance when you first push the trigger down for air.it has a prominent binding feel. I have 3 h&s and iwata and they're smooth all the way through. I've tried oiling trigger needle everything that needs to be alone still the same once you get the trigger down brushes amazing it's that binding is going in the beginning that sucks. I contacted spray Gunner place I bought it from they picked up a couple and it's the same with those maybe it's this particular airbrush
I have not noticed anything out of the normal. however there is no linear transition from off to on with this brush. It definitely has a distinct click on and off. its a little different than my eclipse, but the same as a micron. Soft springs are an option but the slight click down wont change even with a soft spring.
Hey Bill, long time no see at Tim's Wed Night stream. I also see you changed your stream name, way cool. Nice PS771 lookie Loo, ( I picked up a H&S w/ 0.15 needle ) but you left something out. It doesn't matter how well an airbrush is built, designed or costs. It won't spray like your video, if you don't reduce / thin your paint correctly and strain it before use. I only point this missing info out, to remind AB artists esp. new ones, that even a super high quality airbrush won't spray like it was designed, if you don't mix it's food correctly. Think like you have a broken jaw. Your nurse gives you a shake with a big fat 3/8" dia. straw and you suck it up no problem. Next day a different nurse brings you a shake and hands you a tiny 3/32" dia coffee mixing straw to suck it through, you're not eating that shake. Tiny needle sizes need correctly thinned paint without any clumps, or it won't flow / spray correctly.
no question reduction comes into play with detail airbrushes. But it may suprise a lot of people to know I often run straight out of the bottle.. even with a .2. rarely do I use more reducer than it takes to mix the colors easily. Which is about 10 percent or so. A 1-1 reduction ratio is considered heavy to me most of the time. Of course it all depends on the paint you use. Of course I have a video devoted entirely to reduction. Ive been pretty insanely busy.. from october to christmas I did about 40 painting comissions. then january got Covid.. Then we had a vacation first of february.. while id love to say im back to normal. They will be putting my grandbaby back in the hospital. And ill know more about that soon. But its not good.

Nice review Bill. Thank you!
Thanks!
Nice review uncle Bill,do you think there is difference to the Iwatta equivalent?
you would be very very hard pressed to notice a difference between this and a .18 converted CMC+ which would be iwatas equivelent.
@@TheAIRspace The GSI Creos ps771 airbrush is a lot cheaper and by the looks of thing performs just as well.
Thanks for this.
Is there a chance you could compare the 770 the 290 and the 270 please.
well the 290 is the fan pattern airbrush, which i have reviewed. And its a great little gun.
You probably mean the 289 and 270. I have the 270 not the 289 but its on my list of things to acquire :) Im going to look at a couple more airbrushes in the next couple months, It gets expensive since I pay for these out of pocket.. so it does take some time :)
@@TheAIRspace thanks Leon. Look forward to it. I can't get the 770/771 here but the 270 is available so keen to know how different it is.
Love mine! About 1/2 the price of a Micron!
actually a bit less than half Its definitely a great brush :)
great review! the only negative that came to my mind about this ab is the volume of the paint cup, just wish it could shrink down about half of its current size
this size cup has seemed to be the dominant size for some time.
I am new to airbrushing and I have subscribed to your channel and I am learning a lot from you. Thank you for all your work and sharing your experience.
Regards Ernie the old newbie from Australia
Those are trigger happy airbrush grips, and I found myself really liking them. I do not have a link for them.
Thank you, we are remodeling the studio, and I have an auction event to set up for on Sept 11th, as well as a pile of commissions to get through. However in a couple of weeks we will be getting lots more fresh content, in the meantime there is a pile of videos you can go through! Thank you!
Would love to own one of these. The k you for a great video!
Where can I can one of that red airbrush handles that you use?
He got them from Trigger Happy Grips at the Tamco Takeover 2 if I am not mistaken.
my good friend Michelle gave me that grip at Tamco Takeover.
@@TheAIRspace How different is the 290? I believe it's a. 2 vs the. 18 in the 771. Is there another reason to buy the 771 rather than the 290.
@@tomcatkzn You mean PS-270. Good question. The head unit is similar, I also wonder how 270 performs at lowest PSI range (this is micron teritory)
@@faktografik5661 Yes I did mean the 270. Still getting used to the model numbers😉
Great video bill. I have got one yet but I'm strongly considering it.well it's either one of these or another Olympos i do love the Olympos stuff too
the upside over the olympos would be the cup position is better than the c cup olympos micron, and of course this has a mac valve.
not to mention its getting expensive shipping out of japan here. Ive had an olympos mp200c a long time it was actually given to me when I was fairly new to the game. I used it a LONG time.
@@TheAIRspace haha that's funny my Olympos was given to me also. They are a decent bit of kit I might go with the creos though just to try something different
@@jaydenedmand3514 it was an amazing blessing at the time, by a guy I only knew through forums, my wife actually was gonna buy me one and reached out to him (for my birthday). And he just up and sent it and wouldn't take money.
Great guy and great artist I haven't heard from in a couple years.
He more or less said pay it forward,. I've since given away at least half a dozen airbrushes over the years and only hope some of those go on to do what I've done, create an income and try and help others 🙂
@@TheAIRspace that's absolutely right my man I'm a big believer in paying it forward. And helping out others where you can. Your doing a great job bill keep up the great work my man and thanks for all your help in the past 😁
@@jaydenedmand3514 Thanks! Not sure how much help i've been, but It brings me great joy to know i've helped at least a small group of people. Despite not making any videos since august this channel had 24 thousand views in October I must be doing at least a little something right :)
My PS-771 just came today. It's really humid right now so I'm gonna hold off till morning when it's dryer. Not doing it right now is killing me.
let me know when you get to run it through some paces :)
@@TheAIRspace So I was in bed wide awake at 6am waiting for my alarm at 7. Dots were like pin points and lines like a ball point pen. Atomization is the best I've ever seen, Gradient fades are amazing. Now I'm going through my sketch book to figure out what wants to live on the side of my computer case.
HI mike would you recommend this air brush for doing t shirts as well? If not which one would you go for? Love your videos. Thanks
I know some who use detail brushes for everything, myself I don’t I tend to be a bit more fast and furious
Great review! Detailed and that's nice for you to take 2 weeks to play with the airbrush before sharing your thoughts!
To be fair I had already used one before. And I was positive I would love it. Thanks!
I want to get one airbrush that will sort of do it all. Prime my minis, base coat and do some detail work. If i use airbrush flow improver will good quality primer spray ok through this or will it constantly get clogged?
This is definitely not the do it all airbrush. It’s a fine detail brush
Check my reviews on the ps 289
Or the iwata eclipse for a do most everything airbrushes
So I'm a broke painter, and I have an hp-cs, and a 290. I want something for detail next, and I can't afford more than one brush. I was set on the 270, but now I see this review lol. If you had to choose one of those two, which one are you taking? I assume this one after the review
Buy the 270 amzn.to/3I8cHEm (aff link)
Its an incredible value.
So, having this airbrush, would you ever need a micron?
Actually looking at the thumbnail i have 770 instead of 771 listed on that too :/
Thanks!
What is the recommended psi?
most will run these low, with a mac valve i usually set the psi at 35 and control with the mac valve.
Where do you get one?
Links in the description :)
Got mine, brand new, not a si gle proble.

That 183 is definitely my favorite Cheap brush. Artem from Spraygunner should soon have a full stock of parts for them, as well as carrying the brush very soon. They already carry the siphon version (you may have seen) And its great as well.
The 771 is an amazing tool.
I sold mine.. because I wasnt using it often enough (silly me thought id slim down my airbrush collection) But im going to oder one of the overstock Micron SB.. i like them more than the takumi not to mention the takumi is way overpriced. Was hoping GSI would do a side feed version as well but not holding my breath.
For anyone else out there who was wondering😁, the 771 is a chrome plated version of the 770. That's all.
yes 770 and 771 are identical except finish.
