Not mold but we had a problem with being cold on the carnival Spirit last Feb. it was 61 degrees in the cabin! Maintenance was called visited twice nothing was done! I finally crammed hand towels in the vent to stop some of the cold air! It was a miserable cruise!
We were carnival cruisers since 2000, but over the past couple of years, we have changed to another cruise line because of this article. It happened to us couple of years ago with pot smokers in the cabin next to us and we reported it and nothing was done about it. We requested another cabin and was refused. We will never cruise carnival again.
RCL floor vents are nearly always full of dirt, fuzz and some mold. Cleaning in cabins is lacking because the staff are pressed for time just to save the company money.
We loved Alaska on Princess! It was magical. We also loved our cruise to the Panama Canal, highly recommend!! That Carnival story is why we would never sail that line!
I've lived in a place with black mould. Complained a number of times. Hubby and I have allergies. Our health has greatly improved after moving, so I'm not surprised they weren't feeling well. Took over a year before that house was back up for rent.
I'm a Carnival cruiser and their response was a failure. They should have refunded their cruise and gave them at least 50% FCC. Bad publicity on bad service response will cost them more than a few thousand dollars. Maybe they will from a corporate level but the actual ship might not have the authority to do more than the standard or minimum.
Our favorite cruise was HAWAII!!! spent two days on Waikiki Beach. Then 7 day cruise . Hit 5 islands. The scenery was incredible. Not to mention the incredible excursions we took.
Outside of the US, it would be Tahiti. It was wonderful and would like to go back. Antarctica was very interesting, but once was enough. It is off the bucket list now.
I have done 31 cruises. My favourite cruise from USA was B2B2B Southern Caribbean followed by a transatlantic on Holland America Noordam - 35 days in total. My favourite in Europe was the Greek islands on Windstar's Wind Song.
I am now going to look for vents on my cruises. I usually sanitize from top to bottom and treat for bedbugs preventative or not. It makes me feel better to sleep in my cabin.
I was on a very interesting cruise. Back to back. Hawaii and Alaska. Best chance to go back to both. Tourist towns be careful what you wish for. When the money leaves it may never return.
My favoritee American cruise is the Mexican Riviera (Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas) you get rainforest, desert and ocean. Just beautiful. Outside America it has to be my cruise up the Nile in Egypt. I went from Cairo south to Aswan. I felt like Cleopatra on her barge in ancient times. It's a shame that these cruises aren't happening anymore due to water levels. I was treated like a queen the whole time (It was through Abercrombie and Kent)
Thankyou for this news and we will definitely clean all vents as we are going on our first cruise in October and I have a deadly lung disease so the last thing I need is for bacteria in the air. We have subscribed and watch all your vlogs very useful information. Keep on posting as it is great to see you enjoying cruises. There is good and bad in everything and you cover both.
I'm not sure yet, But going to Alaska in May 0f 2025. Can't wait. Best outside the US, flew to San Juan PR, and did a 7 day NCL cruise to eastern Caribbean. It was awesome seeing so many different stops- 5 total for a 7day. Barbados, St Kitts (fav stoop), Antigua/Barbuda, St Marteen and St thomas
My best cruise? That’s a tough one but I’m probably going to give the edge to a Baltic cruise with Celebrity. Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Scandinavia and Russia; it’s a varied but hugely interesting range of destinations. I can absolutely see why Norway would be on there, however. I would also put forward Iceland. The Mediterranean has some real gems too, of course, but in my case I already had some experience of those before I started cruising.
I would be very mindful about cruising with Carnival again. It shouldn't have taken them to go up the food chain to get the satisfaction. I'll stick with Royal Caribbean or try another cruise line!
We had the same experience on carnival on our last cruise. They had the cabin attendant clean the carpet with a broom and water. We felt so bad for her that we just kept quiet. We won’t be quiet again though. We were not sick, but felt as though we were on the verge of getting sick.
I think it would be wrong to conflate cases like Santorini and some of the Norwegian ports with large metropolises like Barcelona. You’ve got to consider that the capital of Santorini has a population of not even 2,000. On one day you might have 10 times that many people visiting on cruise ships, possibly more. It isn’t unreasonable to ask what a sustainable balance is for both tourism and the residence who call it home. My best friend and his family have just returned from Santorini as it happens, although they weren’t on a cruise. They took the conscious decision to stay away from the main town because it’s just “too much” in the daytime. However, he said there were many tours available to behold the caldera.
I know I cut Europe completely out of my cruise list. I can stay home and feel unwanted I certainly don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to feel unwanted.
First, my favorite cruise was on the Celebrity Beyond. Beautiful ship, great food, great entertainment. Second: Very bad service from carnival for those people, but I would expect nothing more from Carnival.
I took a cruise to Europe that included Russia. I doubt many of will be going there on the future. My worst cruise was because of my cabin mate. I had to become a care giver on a very expensive trip. Side by side three cruise. New Zealand, Australia and then back to the states stopping at the islands in between including the Hawaiian islands. It was memorable for the wrong reasons.
Just a geography note: Canada and the Bahamas do not belong to the US. My favourite US cruise was out of Miami and through the Panama Canal over to the west coast of the US. My favourite world cruise was Rome to Venice and it included Mykonos and Santorini before they got cranky.
Love Carnival, what happened to these people is just wrong. Will sure make you rethink your ship. I just got off this ship in April with no issue. There were 38 of us.
My all time Fave cruise so far, was on Ocean Princess, when she was only 6 months old, back in 2000. It embarked from San Juan and visited Aruba, Dominica, Grenada, St. Thomas. It was a great ship, but somehow Ptincess dold it to P & O after only a year. Totally left me SMH.
My favorite cruise was to Alaska on HAL Eurodam. I am not happy about my debarkation that was HAL’S fault, and they refused to remedy the problem, so I'm done with them. I would go back to Alaska on Princess someday. Alaska is so awesome, and I didn't see enough of it.
They deserve a full refund and credit for a future cruise. They deserve so much more than carnival gave them. I found i was given bad service and attitude from at least 90% of the food service workers. I was shocked as a first time cruiser
I've heard other horror stories about Carnival and I can't say I would ever give them a chance to treat me this way. It just sounds like, in all the stories I've read, that it is a cruise line that is more interested in cramming as many people willing to part with their money onto their ships as they can, and they take their chances with a few who are vocal about a bad experience. In other words, they are the McDonalds of cruise lines.
Hello Jayson, thank you for sharing your experiences! Question we will be sailing in 2025 out of San Francisco. I am booking through Costco Travel and they offer 4 floors of cabins to choose from. Should I book high or low? Thank you in advance for your suggestion! 🤩
Cruise operators will do as little as possible, to ensure your comfort. Case in point. I was on Navigator of the seas, back on the May 20th cruise out of San Pedro. On the third day, while visiting Catalina Island, I headed back to the ship to enjoy the pool and hot tub. While relaxing in the hot tub on the top deck, four 20 something young adults climb in. One was a guy who had pimples on his back, and a female friend began scratching them, and then swished her hands in the water. I went to guest services, and asked them to drain and clean it. They acted like they didn't care. 24 hours later. I get a call in my cabin, from the guest services supervisor, exclaiming they cannot be responsible for how people behave in the hot tubs. Who knows what that young male had on his skin, that was now coagulating in the water. Jason, this mold situation, should have gotten the ship docked, and delayed until the mold was removed from the ship. It is despicable it was allowed to get to that point. All these health risks undermine the desire to cruise when it turns into a nightmare, when what you wanted was a sanitary, clean comfortable experience!
I always try to cruise on newer ships because of these stories. Shame on Carnivals staff for this. More people are leaving Carnival for similar situations. Please appreciate customers better than this. We are people and not dollar signs .

We just got off the glory and smelled a lot of that. I just don't know how they get it in board

I always touch up clean my cabin when I enter, I will now look at vents. Bring screwdriver with me.
I always wipe down everything in my room.with Lysol. but now I will be checking the air filter.
And that is why I won't sail Carnival. I'll be checking the vent the next cruise...

well they are the Walmart of the seas. I wouldn't expect nothing more from them
That would’ve been my last cruise on that line.. then reported it to any outlet about that cruise line.
My carnival glory cabin we just got off of was very clean but our room steward Jimmi was amazing 🎉
Southern Caribbean on the Vista

Alaska would be 1st, followed close by Australia/New Zealand.

The response by carnival isn’t a good thing and they deserve more than the standard
Either ALASKA or Bermuda...
