The movie was about a lot of things. I noticed it was about guys getting involved in gay stuff and then running back to the heterosexual side of the train tracks where things are known a certain way and safe again. This is a story that is repeated millions and millions of times in our real world.

It's true. People just need to be free to be who they are and love who they want. The thought that we are so advanced, but yet real folks who suffer like Jack and Ennis are still amongst us today makes me so upset. Their love was so pure, they just wanted each other and nothing else. We can only be so lucky to know the depth of a perfect love despite being so human and flawed. Just let people be.

There is an underlying story behind the main story. It shows how we, humans, long for true love and how afraid of allowing it to flow into our life we can be. When Ennis hears his daughter will get married, he is faced with a devastating truth: she did not let go the opportunity to marry who she does love unlike him. He is blown away by her courage and determination to face the music. She also shows him how easy it is not to mess up things in love. He is devastated by her lack of fear. If only he could be that strong! Then he opens the closet, touches Jack's checkered shirt and says "I swear." He means "I swear I will love you for life". Again he stops half way in expressing his love for Jack. He stops at "swear".

watch the entire film. you can skip the sex scene if you're uncomfortable. but when you see how devastatingly tragic this pure love was because of the evils of violent homophobia and intolerance around them, it will haunt you in a way no other film will.
