Christopher Nolan Interview: Oppenheimer's Mind-Blowing IMAX Numbers & Dark Ending

  • When Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer was released, it was met with critical acclaim, but the financial success of the film was something deeper than just that of a film doing well. For Nolan, it was a victory for the theatrical experience. Nolan has passionately advocated for the advantages of IMAX filming for several years, establishing himself as an industry leader in optimizing the format's potential. Referred to by Nolan as the "gold standard" of film, Oppenheimer played in 70mm IMAX format in just 30 locations worldwide, with fans booking tickets weeks, and indeed months, in advance just to see it.
For the director, as he explained to Collider's Perri Nemiroff while promoting the upcoming home entertainment release of Oppenheimer, seeing that audience response to heading to the multiplex and enjoying the visual experience of the film as he intended was the most gratifying aspect of the release process.
Hear all about that and more straight from Nolan in this interview!

When Einstein is telling Oppenheimer what will happen to him next as he narrates how they will award him a medal, is also a similar scene in interstellar when Old Murph is telling Cooper what he's going to do next as he narrates how he will meet Brand. There's also a similar scene in Inception, an old man narrating to the protagonist.

A genius of the people. Who else makes movies that are arthouse blockbusters? Films you can enjoy seeing even without understanding everything about them (Inception, Interstellar) and yet get into analyzing their meaning and subtext. The first time I saw Oppenheimer I thought the last hour was not as good as the first two. After seeing it the second time I could understand the character developement during the last hour and how Nolan plays with time. The first two hours are about how the bomb was created and the last hour deals with the personal consequences that Oppenheimer faced- especially how conflicted he was.

Marie and I just love how Perri is able to make the person she is interviewing...actually dig and think of an answer (for the uniqueness of her questions). We'll all seen the planned answers, but it is cool to see the person interviewed, pause and say, "good question", then think of answer that is meaningful to them...and in turn, meaningful to us. I thank Perri for providing that space for Christopher Nolan to do that. The only regret, is that the interview was TOO short.
Would love to see more long form interviews with Perri (other than he wonderful show, Ladies Night...which we watch religiously).

Up there with directors like Welles, Leone, Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Coppola, Scott, malick, and tarentino. @@DollyRanch Waste of time movie. If this movie only about oppenheimer then why nolan don't shoot Oppenheimer childhood. Not relevant i guess.
Only soundtracks are great. Oppenheimer is known as father of the atomic bomb. The most peak scene in the movie the bomb blast which happens in nightime. Not brave enough to shot in daylight. And the bomb test after effects are shit. We don't see blast effect, no
Thermal effect, no Iconic mushroom cloud which is everybody want to see in Nolan film. People who see nolan previous work like Interstellar blackhole or inception expect this from his film.
