The umbral spell that makes enemies take more damage is sweet for bosses. Also the shotgun orb spell can target the floor with all orbs if you are close to a boss, doing the most insane damage.
Coming from your Elden Ring content I adore these build guides, they always get me hyped for a new play through. Would love to see a Witch King build with a flail!
Awesome build guide for midgame, this is like EXACTLY what I've been trying to put together so BIG thank you. Started with Dark Crusader since it had good base stats to align with the requirements and some muscle for early game. After balancing out stats a bit, I decided to run duel wield with Orian Preacher Hammer + Rusty Cutter for early-ish game. Cool moveset combos and a good mix of damage types, and poison application really made this pretty sweet for most areas. I'm almost at Calrath so really stoked to get the sword and get this build roaring! Latimer's Javelin has been *awesome*. Flesh Tide looks (really) cool but takes forever to cast and has a weird delayed spread AoE, probably just for funzies. I'm interested to see what a duel wield pairing would look like on this one as things evolve, love aggro hexer builds. :)
Your tips helped me a lot in my first run on Lies of P. I won't buy Lords of the Fallen for now because the performance is terrible on the Xbox, the platform I play on, but I've already saved this video this build looks like a great way to play.
I decided to go this route for my first playthrough: Umbral knight basically, and am rocking a very similar build, though I started with Dark Crusader, so I had to dump more into Radiance and Inferno. Currently I think I'm up to 19 on each, so not quite enough for the guardian. Thanks for the tips about the Javelin and such, I'll keep an eye out for those. Next time around I'm planning to start with Lord and do an Inferno / Rhogar build.
Gotta ask about a series similar to the one you did for each starting class in Elden Ring. Would love to see how you handle the progression of each class, Dark Crusader specifically since strength/faith has always been a personal favorite of mine
I love the build,the theme and aesthetic are perfect,it plays and feels amazing in pve and pvp im hooked on it, already taking it to level 80,only thing i changed was the armor when i found the Cursed knight set tho,still my favorite build on the game.
For the weapon runes i checked the color on the weapon scaling color : - Radiance name : Devoth (Weapon function: Increases Radiant scaling.) - Strengh name : Halsan (Weapon function: Increases physical damage. Reduces Strength attribute scaling.)
It would be fun to dualwield the Longsword in NG+; double your damage output and nullify the "extra steps" argument. Thanks for this! Death Builds are always my preference.
The boss at the end of the area you were in within the video gives you a crazy ass spell that will literally one shot most enemy’s it feels like dark beads from ds1
For everyone talking about the games optimization and performance… turn off HDR. For some reason it has to do with the lighting and HDR. It runs 10x better with HDR off. Like way better.
My build is almost just like this and haven’t seen anyone else running it with the pendant of parting. Leaves umbral mines everywhere and destroys groups
@fextralife would love to see a dark/light build i’m running something similar but use pieta’s sword and the ring that lets me use the umbral catalyst with both umbral and radiance spells it’s a fun balance and you don’t need to spec strength or dex for the main weapon at all which is a waste for the first run
Me too.. should have at least had a basic starter class for Umbral. Radiance and Inferno got one. Bugs my roleplay OCD. Why is a Pyric Cultist or Orian Preacher using pure Umbral magic? Lol

Like the preacher or cultist suddenly found himself into the role of a Dark Crusader at the beginning of the game and thus introduced to this whole new entire dimension of magic that they have to incorporate into their lives, because that lamp and their newly appointed duties will be stuck with them regardless from now on.

This is my first time playing and so far collected most of the stuff and decided to try using Rosamund's Sword x2 And Ring of night's Fire x2 (Me and my brothers helping each other in game and he dropped me an extra of each) And wonder if that would be better then having the Shield and the other ring Not sure if I'll get an answer to this but feel like it can put out good damage with double the amount plus I have a bad habit of not blocking still have to get two or three more items that I get later in the game but doing good so far
I sure hope they get a patch out quick that fixes the performance issues on the Xbox, because it's unplayable due to it. The game will be running at single digit frame rates no matter what is going on. It was just the umbral realm causing it initially, but then it started happening everywhere. Fingers crossed they are working on a solution!
On my 3rd playthrough and I’ve already had a strength build and inferno build and now I’m on the Umbral build and it is probably the strongest but WHY WHY WHY not give us an Umbral Grand Sword??? Mostly for the look… we have ones that go good with radiant and inferno but the closest we have are the Umbral hammers or Rosamunds sword which I resorted to +10ing 2 of them to match the Cursed Knight armor and Umbral death aesthetic. Please give us an ungabunga Umbral sword. It would be so easy to design. Like eyeballs all over it with that pale blue/white color.

I really wish these games allowed us much more flexibility to experiment. So many cool stuff, but very limited respec opportunities. Not to mention scarce upgrade materials. I feel like souls games in general should abandon this fixed/hard to change build thing. Allow for easy respec, and easy weapon downgrade that gives materials back. Just let me try out the cool shit you have in the game, without demanding hundreds of hours that I just don’t have!😢

Of course, you keep all items (apart from quest items) and levels. But in ng+ you lose the ability to use vestiges. Solely depends on your single checkpoint vestige seed placements
You'd think undead enemies like you find in Umbral would be immune to wither. Same way in D&D you'd expect undead to be immune to necrotic damage, yet only some are (in 3.5e all undead are healed by negative energy which is effectively that edition's necrotic damage). I dunno, it really feels like developers just don't understand undead. Regardless, I'm definitely going to work toward this build.
Is this game stil broken on Xbox? Cause I’m pretty sure these builds will be cool but if I can’t play the game then I’ll go back to playing an actual working product.
I prefer the Fungal Pickaxes. They poison very quickly with their innate poison, so wither is constantly being ticked off their healthbar. I throw umbral weapon on them for even more wither damage, which the poison takes care of. Poisons in 1 hit, to just a few hits. No need for any mana regen either. Use the pendant that gives you infinite magic use in exchange for wither damage, which you get right back with each hit lol. This build in the video is veeeeeeery weak. I utterly obliterate bosses just with melee. If I add in magic, it's even quicker. Rosumund badly thins out your stat spread. It's a terrible weapon imo. The fungal pickaxes scale only off of radiance and inferno and only have radiance/inferno requirements. Leave strength and agility at base values. Latimer's javelin umbral spell, kills all trash in one hit, and bigger enemies in around 3 to 5. It's your basic bread and butter spell.

I've been dual weilding Bloodlust and Pietas sword for now as I haven't gotten to this sword, but they're great substitutes if you meet the stats!

Yeah having to unlock all secret classes isn't for everyone but some like the challenge and it gives the game more replay ability

Oops I sold the weapon 😢. Maybe will get another good weapon later in the game. Frostbite and scaling with inferno and radiance sounds nice.
Nohuta ritual hammer is great but you need crafters essence

It’s annoying but I find that exiting to the menu and then exiting the game and re entering the game seems to help when that happens

Rosamund does have a better scaling. You don't even need to hit any softcap in that build
